Title: Planche hand position...
Post by: Tim Broughtonshaw on November 26, 2008, 03:10:53 pm
Hi,
anyone else have problems when doing the planche due to it straining the top of the wrist/hand? i am using a fingers pointing away from the body position (heel of palm pointing towards the body) and when i start the first progression (which i've been able to hold for 60 seconds before) it always feels like its straining the top of the wrist (nearest the back of the hand)  its one of those uncomfortable stretch/strain type feelings rather than one of those good muscle burn type feelings.  anyone had this problem and found a better handposition combination?

Cheers
Tim

I get the same pain, i dont like it. I think if you could get some press up bars it would be alot less pressure non the wrists and be much more comfitable. I will try tonight and let you know if it is any better.

Yeah, push-up stands are definitely the way forward.
After all, your trying to strengthen your core, not bugger your wrists.

I picked up some from TKmaxx that also double as 5lb dumbells, so you can run with them as well, if you're of such a mind.

Good for L-sits too.

Still haven't progress from a 20s tuck planche mind.....

Defo the way to go, makes the position much more pleasant to hold.

have you tried them with your fingers pointing backwards, thumbs engaged and pointing forwards?  This is much less painful on the wrists/hands.  The actual planche feels about the same difficulty to me with this position but it's harder to keep your arms straight.  It's also a bit harder on the shoulders and a bit easier on the triceps, which is probably a good thing for climbing.

Why not have a go at the no handed planche, no pressure on the wrists at all...
