Hope this forum is the right place. I've been asked to help coordinate stuff on this crag for the next YMC grit guide: including the routes and boulder problems. Ill be climbing there this weekend and am happy to take emails on stuff thats new, wrong, underrated etc. Also cleaned away a lot of brambles and stuff last weekend.

hmm a night in Brighouse oh dear ... if a guy looks like hes going to punch you chances are he is.
If you get in to Huddersfield there is a real ale beer festival at the sikh leisure centre this weekend.

In the meantime we keep climbing and cleaning! I'm especially interested in where my sensitivity and ability start to run out V2 and above (and extreme routes).

Yep.. the tops of some of those 'easy' looking Woodhouse solos can be a little more than you bargained for at times, can be really glassy too!
I've got a split in my tip right now so am not doing much - if you're gonna be over there any time soon give me a shout and I'll show you around, loads of cool stuff that you probably wouldn't expect..

Aye - was there last weekend, good to meet you sir.
For someone at my level (i.e. Font 6b - 7aish), definitely worth a visit. Was psyched to bag Piton Crack as well, high enough to get the blood pumping and quality moves too!

Back this saturday if the weather holds. Piton Crack got quite a few ascents last weekend and a lot of praise.

I work 5/10 mins up the road from woodhouse and it has been aboslutely pissing it down for the past 3 days. Localised flooding etc. So I doubt it will be not be.
But it has been windy as hell and not rained a few hours.

It was fine on Saturday we drove through flooding roads and the crag was mainly dry including all the bits I was desperate to check. Just goes to show.

Its been OK, was tried (with no success) last weekend by the group that did Piton Crack and the Cave Buttress roof problems.

gcw - i wouldn't bother with the sherrif. the moves are good but the crux is really keeping your legs from dragging on the ground, not really recomended for someone of your frame.
tomtom, sounds about right. some good problems so well worth a visit

We have cleaned away brambles, cleared most of the rubbish have seen recent trafiic on most of the best prioblems and can confirm most problems dry fast (within hours of torrential rain last saturday) despite some being green. There is graffitti and the odd glass shard and whatever has been thrown down since last weekend. For those considering a visit its obviously a good time. The sheriff is really low but I can fit in without touching the roof and the ground ;-)

I enjoyed Woodhouse Scar during foot-and-mouth but I've not been back. It'd be great if you lived in Halifax, but its not worth travelling for.

Matter of taste and what you mean by travelling surely? Its maybe not somewhere you would go back to again and again but for hundreds of sheltered winter problems many of which dry real fast, good from the mid-7's and especially so in the lower grades, with a one minute walk in and usually only 15 mins from the M62 its worth a look or two. It takes me less time to get on rock there from Nottingham than most of the peak moorland crags.

It's not that far for me, and I've been before but it's been green (used to live a lot closer). Easy to pop into in passing. Although the Sheriff may be a little lowball for me!!

Used to be my local crag, so maybe I'm biased bit I've always really liked the place (notwithstanding the odd bit of broken glass and grafitti). Piton Crack is the second best V5 in Yorkshire and you should all get on Angel Face - another cracker! Loads of good little solos and fun problems throughout the low to mid grades - what's not to like?

Do you happen to know whether woodhouse is expected to get consumed by ferns and midges in the coming months?
I fancy a trip over, but it won't be for another month or so, and I'm curious to know if the plants will beat me to it.
Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself a little bit :-\

Ferns are never much of a problem. Brambles were a problem under parts of the crag but are becoming less so since I started pulling them up by their roots (cleared most of the winter growth under the crag today along with a few more big root tubers). Midges are never very much of an issue as it's an urban crag.

Nice on offwidth. The veg there never gets too big, its a year round venue (if you like sweaty grit)

Did another bramble clean on Saturday to clear some patchy spring regrowth from under the crag... easier than it used to be. I'd encourage others to don gloves and pull the stuff up by the roots.
Bouldering was in good nick and litter not too bad (couldn't clear stuff as Id forgot to pack some bags).
