Title: Best Of YouTube
Post by: MattH on February 01, 2008, 06:38:53 pm
At ShAFF this year we're planning to show a continuous stream of the bst YouTube 'Adventure Film' videos on projectors in the bar and the foyer.

We'd like to know what your favourite clips are. Reply to this thread or email us directly with a link to your favourites and we'll try to feature them in the line-up. If you've got any comments or messages you'd like including (on the big screen) be sure to let us know.

Here's a few:

Any more from UKB?

Cheers,
MattH

On a slightly amusing "adventure" theme, and in the spirit of shameless self promotion, I propose my two most popular non-qualities.

Dancing John's Bellyflop Finishes (first time climbing, ever)

It has to be   Dancing John .... Still find it hard to believe how much weight the boy has shed since then ...... And now he cruises the blue circuit at the works .....  :great:

I'll admit that I misread the OP! . I did try to delete the post afterwards, but to no avail. And I'd say that the first one is at least mildly adventurous :off:

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as youtube has come a long way since 2008, maybe spin it towards the direction that the bcc iplayer thread has taken.

Just have a think, channel dedicated to renewable energy discussion with plenty of numbers for the boffins the get stuck into. Quite a good watch for people who are suffering from climate change induced anxiety.

Fully charged show, everybody'd favourite robot from the 80's and 90's has channel dedicated to electric cars and a sister channel dedicated to renewable energy stuff as well. It's a little bit like a low budget top gear for electric cars.

Sampson Boat Co, This dude is completely overhauling a massive wooden boat. He's been on quite the journey and its been an amazing process to follow. Interesting as much for some of the people involved as the project itself.

Clickspring. This one is for proper nerds, amazing horologist makes cool things out of brass. current project is a recreation of the Antikythera mechanism which he's mainly doing by hand with tools of the era, it's fascinating stuff.

Not often you come across someone with genius level intelligence but practical skills to match. Dude builds stuff like electron microscopes in his garage.

I may have posted this before, but I'll jump on the bandwagon anyway. My mate Steve makes a wheel; 35 minutes of narrationless absorption:

There are lots of really great channels on music on youtube. One of the best is Elam Rotem's "Early Music Sources".

Here is a nice episode to get you started:

Well I don't know if this is quite the place to put it, but.. where else? For a 27 year old film La Haine has, seemingly, barely aged at all. More's the pity. to understand exactly why Mathieu Kassowitz made the movie as he did, you can listen to his audio commentary on the film:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEA_VmIvI2c&t=990s
and simultaneously watch the film here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKppkmlB5HQ

The commentary is about 55 seconds ahead of the film, so turn down the lights, turn down the film sound, and enjoy.

Don't think I've watched La Haine since I was at University in the early 2000s. Such a powerful film and an all time great soundtrack! Probably worthy of a cross-post in the films thread.

La Haine is great! Your second youtube link is blocked in France though.

My favourite scene

There are plenty to choose from! A shame the commentary is blocked, it's a voiceover from Kassowitz which simultaneously accompanies the action.

TheTravis Bickle scene was not in a mirror; Vinz's back is actually that of the sound guy who shaved his head to appear to be him, before ducking out of the way. You are looking at Vincent Cassell (whose brother is in Assassin, hence the DJ playing nique la police in your clip) through a hole in the wall. They even wrote on the plastic bag backwards to make it look like a mirror image.

Anything with Dibnah is surely worth a watch, I've probably posted this before but every time it appears I end up watching the full series of vids.

Billy Ocean lip-syncs his heart out to an inexplicably and comically apathetic Dutch audience. You might be good at your job but it’s unlikely you will ever reach the levels of professionalism on show in this fantastic clip.
