I've started a Vimeo Group (http://www.vimeo.com/groups/4295). I don't know how much use it will be, but please feel free to join and upload stuff to Vimeo. I'd hope it would work in a similar way to the Flickr group :-\
-
Nice one GCW. I keep meaning to load up to Vimeo. Now that I've started climbing again, I hope to make some more non-quals.
Interestingly, Vimeo videos are not blocked by the filter at work.
-
Good idea - i've sticked this :)
-
Cheers Bubbs.
I've linked my videos now, and polished the homepage a bit. Currently I've nicked the spotter pic. Mr Draws, I hope that's OK, if not please let me know.
There's also a file page where you can upload stuff in various formats: pdf, mp3, jpeg, gif, png, doc. I'll stick my topos there too, since my current online storage has died
-
nice one, I have put my name on the list
-
I've joined - i'm "borque" not bubba :)

What are the size restrictions on the storage space?
I like the way you've used Rich's image as a banner - might be a good idea to use as the forum header too ?
-
It appears the file limits are the same as for videos: ie 500MB per week. But I'm not 100% sure.
Cheers to the 5 that have joined.
Anyone know the best way to link videos? The way I've done it is to open the video, then click on the "add" tab, then click on the UKBoulderin box in the add to groups bit. You may be able to do a mass link but I'm not sure how.

Good work GCW.

Nice. Quality is great compared to shitty U tube.
-
We just need Jim to join, what with the quality of Extreme Cheese vids.
-
I've been having problems uploading to Vimeo. The uploads kept freezing part way through and I couldn't find a way to resume.
Turns out (after minimal searching on Vimeo forum) that I needed to turn off my screen and power saver functions. :-\

If you use Vegas and are exporting HD vids for Vimeo, you may find this (http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/11/09/exporting-with-vegas-for-vimeo-hd/) useful.
-
Just like to say a big Thanks to everyone that has contributed, and watched, the stuff on the group.
There's currently 101 videos and 38 members. Nice work everyone!!
-
do I have to make my stuff part of the group?
I don't know how this shit works, I just upload vids every so often to my account. Do I have to add them to the ukb group?

Still haven't found a better way. Add them, Jim, the more the merrier.
-
Aye, only way i've found too:
Join the group, then go to your video - on the right is a panel with tabs that say "more" and "add" - click the "add" then you can add the vid to the group...
-
I've added an album for Yorkshire Bouldering (http://vimeo.com/gcw/albums), although it seems to be on my account rather than the UKB Group. Thought it's make navigation easier.
Any ideas on the best way to work it?
-
Now that Vimeo let you have albums attached to a group, I've spent a dull morning filing the UKB vids. Apologies for any mis-filing. A few vids will not be in the groups as they are private and can only be added by their owners. I hope these make navigation a bit easier.
List at the bottom right of the Video page (http://www.vimeo.com/groups/UKBouldering/videos)

We have now hit 1000 videos on the UKBouldering Vimeo Group :dance1:
Thanks to everyone that has contributed!!
-
For some reason it seems that it is not possible to access the attached files for the Group T present (ie the Topos). I don't know if this is a temporary thing or not.
-
There used to be a tab for files, but this has gone and links to the files no longer work. They are upgrading the Vimeo site which may be the cause.
-
It's probably worth seeing what happens with Vimeo initially.
-
I've heard back from Vimeo, basically fuck all can be done about it. I had issues with my own account which has taken out the UKB account. Vimeo say they can't restore it, so I've had to re-create the group.
It is currrently here (https://vimeo.com/groups/148393), we need to use the group name of 148393 as I can't re-link it to UKBouldering yet.
Fuckity fuck. It was bad enough the loss of the files and the folders. Sorry everyone, but we'll have to re-build this resourse from scratch.
-
Would it be prudent to link it to a secondary account set up solely for the purpose of UKB so that if you have problems with your personal account again it won't cock the group up?
-
I've attached it to my account for now, I can always transfer later. But yes, that's not a bad idea at all.
-
I've stuck a bunch of my videos on the new one, sorry...
Also noticed that I'm still a member of the old UKB group, and the new UKB group is also called UKBouldering. So I am a member of two groups called UKBouldering and there is no obvious way of telling the two apart on the +add tab when you add a clip to the group. Which is a bit confusing, as is my explanation no doubt. Anyway I can't see a way of removing the original group from my list of groups, anybody got any clues? It seems weird that my membership of the group is still active despite the group having disappeared...
Anyway nice one for getting it all up and running again G, I'm sure it will soon be populated with many videos of a far higher quality than mine. The big loss might be the documents, I know that many of the docs were for pretty esoteric things but it was an interesting collection of bits and bats.

What he said. Rename please! Super Ukbouldering 2 Turbo.

I've created a UKB video account which is now the Owner of the UKB group, so hopefully we are safe(r).
At least now I can re-do the folders that I couldn't amend after the website upgrades. Still no option with the files though.
Let's have a poll (http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,20369.msg368065.html#msg368065). Always worth a punt.

The Group address should work as https://vimeo.com/groups/ukb
I have titled the group differently for now. Is that clearer?
-
Good for me. I'm re-adding my videos.
Seems pretty bad that vimeo would just loose all those files? surely they have back-ups?
-
No doubt they do, but employing someone to go and find all the files for every group whenever something gets lost is probably something they can't be arsed with.
Perhaps use the UKB Wiki for storing/hosting files in future?
(Although I think Bubba or another admin may need to relax the file extensions that are permitted)

Just spent an hour putting vids in folders (https://vimeo.com/groups/ukb/albums), only to find the videos within the folder won't link (it just gives the Vimeo-Uh-oh page). Does it work for anyone else, or am I wasting my time?
-
Working fine here...like the folders idea by the way.

Works for me.
-
Is it just me? If I go into the Northumberland folder and click on "In the Woods!", the video link (https://vimeo.com/groups/ukb/albums/4713/video/32160891) won't work?

That link doesn't work for me either but if I click through from the UKB home page it takes me to this link (http://vimeo.com/groups/ukb/videos/32160891) which works fine.

Had another thought with regards to the Vimeo UKBouldering.
It seems myself and a few others regularly stick videos into the Quality Bouldering/Chuffing thread that are hosted on Vimeo.
How about having a thread in a similar vein to the Blog Piles that simply suck in the RSS feed for the new UKBouldering : Pink Anasazi (http://vimeo.com/groups/ukb/videos/rss) thus negating the need to do so.
Pros :
Less 'work' for users to get videos embedded with UKB (I've actually reduced the amount I do this of late anyway).
Simple to add videos to the Vimeo UKBouldering : Pink Anasazi group (assuming you are in that thread).
[Add what you think wold be a Pro here]
Cons :
It would lose the somewhat subjective Quality/Non-quality filtering (which personally I think is a bit whack anyway and often reflects a level of self-deprecation as most users vids get stuck in the later which doesn't truely reflect their quality in my opinion).
It may result in 'spam' as there is currently no moderation applied to the videos added to the Vimeo group.
[Add what you think wold be a Con here]
Just a thought. I'm sure similar could be setup on YouTube.
-
There IS moderation of the videos, subject entirely to my own opinion. :guilty:
Having said that, if the vids were automatically sucked into UKB I can switch on the option of having to approve added videos before they are published.

No slight intended, and not something I've noticed, my apologies.
I thought about this too and even did a trail implementation at the UKB test forum a year or so ago, but I prefer the current approach.
Fairy muff. Just thinking of ways to lessen the burden on users (for want of a better phrase as its not that onerous, just mildly annoying having to remove the 's' from the URL or correct it).
