Hi there folks,
Just to let you know that there are currently some memberships available for the School Room in Sheffield, there are only a limited number of places available so please be quick.
The School Room is a high spec members only training facility for intermediate to advanced climbers who want to improve their strength and endurance for climbing. It is not suitable for beginners and you must be 18 or over to join.

Cheers!

I am so envious.
-
is £180 for a year right?

-
for some reason, I'd assumed that it was more expensive than that
not that I'd be a suitable member anyway
-
Sorry, I hadn't read the OP, just thought you'd been bone idle.
-

You're a member anyway.
-
£180 a year is good value compared to other less specialized establishments charges...

brilliant

If you live in Sheffield, have no ties and aren't a member then there's no helping some people. Not to be confused with lagers 2nd helpings!

Out of interest where is it in Sheffield?
Is there a board that could be used for circuits in the F6C - 7B range similar to the Works setup? Or is it all brutally hard?
-
Location. (https://goo.gl/maps/7J2kfsX1ne72)
Couple of circuits. Relatively small wall, but plenty of stuff that's not that hard. Find someone who's a member and nip down for a look. It's a very good set-up.
-
I hadn't realized it was quite so in the middle of the beat
-
I don't live in Sheffield but pass through 4/5 times a year. Would love to check this place out. Read about it in Moon's biography. Am I right in thinking it's the same equipment from the original school room but a different location?
Any chance of a day pass when I next visit Sheffield?
-
Just re-read by last post. I didn't mean a free day pass, I just couldn't see any option other than annual membership on the website.
-
Too late. You're a marked man
-
It's just annual membership
-
Is there no +1/2 for members? Thats how the private wall over this way works. Your aloud to bring in a guest and they put £2 in a pot
-
Nope. I didn't join a private wall to have any old cunt allowed in.
-
Like that punter megos :tease: he can't even do the joker
-
Exactly.

No, you don't have to whisper about it.
-
Damn I wish I lived in Sheffield!
£180 is very cheap, (as long as they have all the plate weight and stuff).
-
£180 is very cheap. I pay £40 a month for off peak access at Vauxwall in London.
-
That's exceptionally good for London!

Indeed. Even for off peak.

Does anyone fancy giving me the tour down here?
Am I going to get my arse handed to me down there or will I get use out of it as a. Mid 7's climber (bouldering & sport).
Does it have circuit style stuff or is it just pulling on minging crimps on a board?
Cheers
Deacon

You are going to get your arse handed to you, you'll get excellent use out of it as a mid 7's climber. There are circuits there and you won't find a single minging crimp on the board! Good luck finding someone to give you a tour tho, it mainly caters to training obsessed time starved types.

There used to be a concept of guest entry in the old days - with the associated £2 in a pot thing, but it was massively abused and became a bit of a nightmare. I can remember going up to train on a saturday morning to find 10 people in the small room which was the old school, and only one of them was a member - I think they'd been out on a night out, not slept and gone straight to the board off their faces. I had to roll the bodies off the mats to pull on.
Partly to avoid scenes like this, but mainly because its been done properly this time - i.e. as a commercial venture, its a requirement of the insurance that all who visit to have completed the necessary paperwork in order to use. So thats why there's no guest entry.

Unless you're a world wad.
-
they probably dont fall off

Anyone know if there are many circuits on the 15 and 30 degree boards and what grades they go down too?
-
Up problems on the 30° and the big board has a purple around 7c+ and pink in the 8s some traverse's you could finish by going up the up problems too

There isn't a 15 degree board.

Thanks. How many moves in the circuits? Anything similar to the works board which covered 7a+ to 9a?
Starting at 7c+ seems hard!
-
The '7c+' is actually 8a+ IMO. It's 50ish moves. The Pink breaks down into 8a+ (1st 3rd), 8b+/8c (1st 2 3rds) and 9a ish for the full link.
There are plenty of big jugs on the board though, so it wouldn't be difficult to make up a 40+ move 7c. It's generally steeper than the Works board and hard to do much circuit-wise below that kind of standard. It's very good for AnCap style long boulder problems.
-
Thanks a lot, wanted to see if there are jugs as I'm rehabbing an injury.
However I dont think im up to that level yet

Or for an alternative point of view:

Yep.
Built a career on it.
Though I prefer to see it like this:

With the Dunning Kruger being a temporary state on the cusp of stage 1 and 2...

Very good point
Problem is I'm injured and only am climbing on big jugs. So don't wanna move from the works board to the school room and not be able to climb at all :) yet!
