I seem to have picked up a strange pain in the palm of my hand near to wrist base directly opposite little finger. This seemed to pop up after a session of severe log splitting with an axe - could this be the issue? Starts when I pull hard but ok on easy moves on big jugs. Anybody know what I might have done?

Opposite little finger? ie near thumb? Your scafoid's about there. Or do you mean directly below the little finger at the wrist- that sounds like a tendon or ligament strain. Either way a physio might be a good step to diagnose it.
Resting it on a pack of cold peas to reduce any inflammation and stimulate blood flow might help. Treat area v. gently after icing till warm again.

Yeah directly below little finger at corner of palm - hurts deep inside with pressure. Gonna see a physio next week hopefully when he is back from leave.

Anybody know of any hand specialists in Cumbria as injury is not improving and getting frustrated.
