Hopefully they've managed to retain the magic of the first version.

Mmmmh... So they discontinue one of the best shoes they ever produced, and then bring it back with some changes (i assume, that toe box seems Boostic-like. If it ain't broke and all that) And the one failing that model had, which was the heel, remains unchanged?

Snazzy colors though

how can you tell all that by a foto? you donīt even know which size this shoe is.
to me they look totally the same as the old ones except those "fancy" colors.
just looks like they changed the toerand on the inside edge. seems liek itīs covering the toe knuckle which is a great thing since that was the weakest spot on all of them and always the first spot to get a hole.

Because i owned 5 pairs of Stix and 2 pairs of Boostics, I know what they look like, even if they are a different size

If you think they are exactly like the old Stix then look again, there are a bunch of differences

you know that different colors change the way your eye transfers information to your brain.
like black always makes you look slim, horizontal striped shirts make you look fat etc...

PS: As a good example: the evolv shaman and the rasta shaman are the exact same shoe and do look a lot different just because of their colors.

Red the colour of anger - black associated with death - purple (apparently) is linked to sexual frustration....

Agree that the heel still looks pants and that the colours look like they were chosen by the roll of a dice.

That being said, I guess (hope) there are still a few changes to be made.

Well as it happens, Steve from MBC says:

100% microfiber!. Same forefoot as original, but a tighter heel, combined with a new double gusset for great heel fit. Updated toe rand construction

I truly hope that is the case and that i'm wrong in my 'observations'. But Feb 2014 release date  :jaw:

The weirdest thing is that they won't be available for nearly a year. I'm pretty sure that up until recently, they've been producing the original stix as (I think) someone at the works said they've even done a run with the new instinct slipper material for them (I recall seeing a photo Dave Mac in a pair of orange stix, so things seem to tie up). That seems to indicate that the change in fabric isn't a problem and with only a minor changes to other parts of the shoe, why the delay?!

I thought one of the biggest drawbacks (apart from the terrible heel) was that the uppers weren't very elastic, meaning that they only really suited people with high volume feet. A touch more elastic, like the instinct S and they could have a slipper that would fit low and high volume feet...

werenīt the original ones mostly leather? all of my leathershoes mold better to my feet and stretched more than corduras (which is the material from the instict S).
the delay isnīt a delay itīs just the usual market related release date. all new climbing shoes from 5.10 over scarpa to la sportiva are released in spring. they missed this year so itīs coming next year
they havenīt brought them out this spring because they wanna sell their instinct VS and boostics.
also the stix is still available here. just look at the scarpa europe HP and you will see that they never went out of production in europe except for UK.

Got my hands on a pair. I'm sorry to say they are very differant from the original. They're basically a slipper version of the Boostic with X-grip rubber. :ras:

Tried these on - my feet fit instinct and magos perfectly but these are very cramped round toe box. Not for me.

After wearing mine for a couple of sessions these are my observations:

The toebox is narrower, but still comfy (for me)
The extra rubber over the big toe is a bonus when toe hooking.
The heel is marginally better, but you don't buy Stix for heel hooking.
They seem more sensitive than the originals. Great for smearing  :o and steeper stuff.
The sizing is different. I went for my bog standard Scarpa size, could (should) have gone down half a size.
They are incredibly light, but I hope this isn't reflected in reduced longevity.

What's the fit like round the ankle?
I fit Boosters and Magos really well but my Stix (originals) are quite baggy round the ankle, despite a snug fit round the heel and toes.  Not sure if I have very shallow feet orvery skinny ankles...

They fit around the ankle seems to be a bit better than V1 (but that wasn'r an issue for me in them any way). Overall a lower volume shoe I'd say.

I tried some of these one a few days ago. I'm a 43 in the instinct lace and a 42 in the stix v2 was too big.

I can also confirm that the heel is still shit and they are still definitely a shoe for high volume feet as I had bags of room on top. Strange that they mention the addition of extra elastic to solve this very problem when they feel just as bad as the old stix.

Just bought some more dragons in the end, if only they had toe rubber!

About half a size in my experience.

Tried some on today and they feel weird, very blunt so your big toes are curled while the others are busy luxuriating.
