Title: A Load of New Buildering Topos
Post by: Liam Copley on March 28, 2009, 03:08:19 pm
Me and my mates have just climbed a fair few new buildering problems in 'Scunthorpe', I doubt anybody on here knows of Scunthorpe but but it might just inspire you if you have no rock near you lol, theres some loads of new buildering videos, photos and topos on www.red-tips.com (http://www.red-tips.com) It would also be helpful if anyone who does do 'buildering', adds there topos so people will know about the climbs ect (you have to be a member to upload videos & photos though)

Are you crazy?  I bet everyone knows the place, mainly because of Rowland Winn, what a legend!

Are you crazy?

I'd ask the same question for a completely different reason. FFS.

Fact 1 - Scunthorpe is a shit hole
Fact 2 - You would only go there to buy cod/pollock (even then Grimsby is better!)
Fact 3 - You could probably get to the Plantation from Scunthorpe by bicycle for before sunrise if you set off at 4am.
Fact 4 - Your posts are annoying
Fact 5 - You are crazy
Fact 6 - You are probably on Crack

Mores the point have you seen some of the grades that have been proposed for some of these "problems"? It's a fucking joke! Massive massive overestimations of grade fo shiz.

EDIT: Just seen Liam's done a complete over grade (there's an almost identical thing in Leeds), named it after himself and then proclaimed it a "total classic". Oh dear.

I must admit that the grades were actually pretty wrong, I uploaded all the photos and just gave them quick grades, and as if I would add buildering problems on 8a.nu lol,

Everything you said about scunthopr is probably true, I'm moving to sheffield at the end of next month, but the buildering is good here lol, and stanage is 55 miles away ( its apprently about 55 miles), I dont fancy that on my heavy bike!

but yeah, you might find my post annoying, soo, I probably wont come back on this website. Not much on here lol.

I always imagine anyone who uses it as having a tongue that lolls out the corner of their mouth, and there is a puddle of drool on their keyboard.

Either that or its Lol Tolhurst, drummer with the Cure.

All 6 episodes are there. Actually Episodes I, II  and III are much better than the proper ones, mainly because they are shorter. And there is less JarJar and no Hayden Christensen.

I was actually planning a buildering trip to S cunt horpe. I walk past immaculate granite buildings every day and have no interest in buildering on them, but those stairs behind the wheely bin look ace. Especially for a 6c tick. Sod driving to the grit, I can get to Sunny Scunny in about the same time.

When I was about 13 I used to traverse the back wall of the community centre next door to my house in Lewes when I couldn't get out climbing. It was made of flint so was viciously sharp and bits of it often sheared off unexpectedly. It was pretty filthy and I had to climb over a 7 foot rusty metal gate to get to it and clear weeds and rubbish away from the footholds. It was great though as it was something to climb on. My nearest climbing wall was Mile End in London which was a three hour round trip (thanks for the lifts Mum) so this was all I had locally. The full traverse of the back wall was probably about 7b (route grade) and it took a while for me to link it as it kept getting harder as holds snapped off. Eventually I did it missing out the bigger holds and without using a big ledge for feet. I realised it was actually quite good training as well as being fun.

Reading Jerry's book I noticed the similarity in that he wanted to climb so badly that he would train on anything as a lad and how even by training on a shit brick edge wall he was able to make big gains. When all you want to do is climb you'll make do with whatever's there. Enthusiasm is a wonderful thing and certainly to be encouraged in the young.........

HOWEVER!!

I didn't A: Tell anyone about my traverse or B: Feel the need to write it up anywhere. And had the internet existed I would have had the common sense not to upload videos of myself climbing the bag of shit complete with duff grades and descriptions of it's "classic" moves and then post links to the videos on a bouldering website! FFS!!!!

Anyway - back to Star Wars. lol

Hmmm really sharp, bits falling off the whole time, eliminating holds... Are you sure you're talking about your youth? ;)

I was going to try and pass one of these badgers off as "something I just knocked up" but they wouldn't copy/paste well. Some time has been spent here.

Liam - Like Jasper said. You're going to keep getting a load of grief from older (cynical) climbers if you insist on doing mad stuff like climbing in pissy stairwells, videoing it and sticking it on the internet as 'classics'. It's great that you're so syked but don't expect a bunch of 20/30/40 somethings to share your enthusiasm or respond to daft questions.

To everyone else, they're just kids, they don 't have cars or much money.. give 'em a break before jumping on them.  Spread the love

Dont expect 18 yr olds to either, or other people who are just about the same age.
