Couldn't find the thing on UK climbing, but here's what I know:

Start track: Marmion: Schoneberg (orig marmion remix) avail all over the place.

Bit with ben getting into car: DJ Food: Dark Lady, think it's on Jazz Breaks Vol 4 from Ninja Tune

Bit in the peak: Atlantic Ocean: Waterfall, was out on Eastern Bloc records yonks ago.

Mellow bits in font: Various tracks from Nightmares on Wax: Smokers Delight.

Training in the Foundry: Art of Trance: Octopus (man with no name remix) on Platipus records, and availiable on Platipus Records Vol 2

Most of the other house type tracks were by Grinstretcher, which I have been unable to find anywhere.

Didn't we get most of these together on Waste last year?

Sure I've got some of them somewhere.

there was a thread about this on here a while back. I got a lot of them, but never got hold of whatever one it is when ben is doing karma for the camera.

Post by: Ru on March 11, 2005, 09:43:18 pm
That one's one of the Grinstetcher tunes along with the one where ben does aerodynamite. Apart from the odd remix, I've never been able to find any stuff by grinstretcher anywhere. Doesn't help that the label is also given as grinstretcher too, so you can't trace em that way either.

I had exactly the same problem with the Grinstretcher stuff Ru - it was  probably a  white-label.

Also is Real Thing out of print or can you still buy it? if so does anyone know where from?

All this talk of it has got me well psyched to see it again.

We've got a private p2p network set up for some of the ukb users - it's not always running (it depends what else is running on my pcs) - if you're interested I can add you to the group?

Marmion's Schoneberg is available on iTunes also. Not many of the others though, I went through the lot a few weeks ago when trying to update my psych music collection.

I think the version of marmion on the real thing is (badly) cut to make it shorter on the opening sequence. its really obvious when watching it. I can't remember which version they used though. i should try and find it out, i've got that track on about 6 different CDs at home.

Yes, I'm sure that marmion tune is edited to fit. I've got it too, will try to look it up.

Funny how many of us have spent so much time looking for these tunes, I've spent many hours. Guess it's the boulderer's mindset, spy a problem and do everything to solve it!
Title: Re: Real thing soundtrack
Post by: Jim on October 02, 2006, 10:46:25 pm
Its a remix alright(don't know which one it is though?)
I have got 2 different versions of the one used on real thing, a short one and a long one (obviously the long one goes on the pysche cd) and I've also a completely different version of it altogether.
Fatboy, I'll have to sort something out with you and I recon we'll be able to compete this soundtrack.
I'll be in touch soonish when I have some freetime

Why didn't Apple didn't just go with Flac?
Title: Re: Real thing soundtrack
Post by: unclesomebody on November 08, 2006, 09:53:30 pm
winamp will play m4a and it will even transcode if you have the right plugin. Just do a search for winamp transcoder and then it becomes a right click option. You can transcode from anything to anything (as long as you have the ability to plugin for winamp!). Would be really interested to get a copy of the real thing soundtrack. Perhaps you could upload it to sendspace (or any other file hosting service)

Ive got everything bar two tracks(plus a few extra remix's) which I talked about earlier in the thread
Scat-Lisa Marie/Progress track, now I believe either Ru or Jim has them so a complete set is available
Title: Re: Real thing soundtrack

hmmm. Jim is away but if Ru has them and it is indeed true that a complete set is available then I could set up an ftp server where you could just drop them into. Then I can normalize them, transcode them, and upload it to a file hosting service for all to download... what do you think?

The Stick It soundtrack list used to be on the slackjaw site I think, but I can't find it now.

I know it'd be tricky to get everything for Stick-It because at least one track was specially made for the film (by our own Falling Down no less) which would make a p2p download nigh on impossible.

I don't have the missing tracks and like fatboy sez, I can't find any evidence of them existing as were probably white labels or maybe whoever put the list up may have made a mistake. Not saying that is the case but it is a possibility

Fatboy Slimfast, if it's a bother to transcode/normalize the tracks how about just dumping them in a FTP site and letting downloaders process them? That should work if the tracks are all .mp3's, I imagine everyone has software capable of handling those easily enough.

Strikes me that there is enough interest in the trax contained on this film to release the soundtrack on CD.  Slackjaw would make money I believe.

don't you need the rights to the tunes to do stuff like that?

in answer to the previous question, have you found a copy yet? If not I can probably drop one down the works sometime if no one else can offer a better solution.

But you know they do.  They make money on the DVD, why not on CD.  Is there a price difference in releasing it as a sountrack on a film and a soundtrack in itself?

I'm just guessing but isn't there a big difference between using a song in a sports movie and selling a cd of just the song/track? another point I might raise is that one of the tracks was recently revamped and was probably in the UK top 40. Is the real thing even slackjaw as well?  I thought it was black diamond films or something similar?

Most will likely be scattered around t'net on various p2p networks if you can be bothered to hunt them down.  I've a few of the more obvious ones, but haven't bothered to seek out all of them.

I think some were written specially for Stick It, but I may be wrong.  If so, they may be hard to track down.

Got Doyen D's money shot the other day... well pleased.. Suspect Packages have a copy of it on 12" too, for those of you that are interested..

http://www.suspect-packages.com/artists/a-f/DOYEN_D.php

The Dandy Livingstone track (A message to you) was hard to get hold of on vinyl..  eventually found it on Andy Smiths Document 3.. love the way slackjaw used the track at the beginning of stick it...

Anyone know what the tune used at the beginning of the Kyloe sequence was? sounded like something on ninja tune?

The Kyloe sequence was written by someone at slackjaw, maybe Ben Pritchard? I've already asked if there's a copy of it going around, but never heard back.

I wrote it.  I have a copy on CD and Minidisk so I'll get around to making an mp3 and put it somewhere where you can find it.

After being reminded of this last night, I've had a look at the film- we've missed one track out (Bless my Soul) and got a couple in the wrong order at the end.

For fellow nerds, the actual tracks are thus:

Music from the Real Thing
1. Shoneberg- Marmion
2. Dark Lady- DJ Food
3. Waterfall- Atlantic Ocean
4. Chica Boom- S-Bam
5. Theme- The Sabres Of Paradise
6. Whatever You Want - Grinstretcher
7. (Man) Tha Journey- Nightmare On Wax
8. Keep On Jumping- The Lisa Marie Experience
9. Octopus- The Art Of Trance
10. Scat (Realistic Mix)- The Lisa Marie Experience
11. Bless my Soul- Nightmares on Wax
12. OnaMission- Coldcut
13. Givin It- Progress
14. Give Your Love To Me- Grinstretcher
15. Shoneberg- Marmion (again)

Has anyone got Givin' It and Scat, as they seem to be the ones that are hard to find?

Sorry to bump this thread, but there is a track from this video that's been in my mind like a ghost.  I am certain it was from The Real Thing, however I no longer have the VHS.  It was not one of the doof doof tracks, just a chick with her guitar.  I think she was listed in the track list as Denise Van Hamenberg, one or all of the parts of that name could be wrong but you get the gist of it.  Lyrics memory is sketchy but went something like:

"Can I keep you a secret
can i keep you in a secret box
and I'll only open it up
when the rain starts falling from your eyes"

Been looking for this song on and off since I purchased the original VHS!  God, i'm going insane!!

Could someone with the VHS or DVD please confirm that this song is in-fact in there?

Thanks folks!  You will save an Aussie from insanity.

Regards
 D

Hi everyone,

I've loved this film and it's soundtrack since I first bought it on VHS in about 2001. I managed to track down most of the songs but I've never been able to find the two Grinstretcher tracks, which are my absolute favourite. When searching the internet for them again recently I found this thread and saw that in the past various people have had them, but all the link which were posted at the time now seem to be dead. I wondered if anyone still has those tracks and if there is anyway at all to get hold of them? I would be ever so grateful for any help that anyone might be able to give me.

Also I presume that no one ever managed to track down Scat or Givin it?

Finally I noticed that the front of the video/dvd case it says "Ben Moon and Jerry Moffat on the ultimate bouldering road trip . . .    . . . to the sounds of Warp, The Lisa Marie Experience, Marmion, Atlantic Ocean, Grinstretcher, Progress, DJ Food, Coldcut, The Art of Trance and S-Bam." Does anyone know anything about the Warp track, or is this just a mistake on the cover?

Many thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give.  :)

I think "warp" is just referring to warp records, a sheffield label (at the time) that released some of the tracks.

Missing quite a few - particularly Whatever You Want, which the one I wanted to get hold of.

Gus - might be worth asking at the Foundry? They play quite a few Real Thing tracks on a regular basis, although might well be tracks you've already got. That was how I found the Art of Trance and Nightmares on Wax tracks.
