Title: Putting the track back in Trackside

A short movie, a talkie actually, looking at recent ground improvements around the Trackside Boulder at Curbar.
Over the years the ground underneath this popular block has become sadder and older looking. The botox of woodchip smoothed the surface for some time but recently BMC volunteers undertook some more permanent work. Niall Grimes talks to Adam Long, chief spademan of the project, and Kim Strawbridge from the Easten Moors Partnership, about the thinking behind it.

Might be easier to embed? Not sure everyone needs to see us in fullscreen...

There is a fair bit of tree felling going on at Curbar at the mo, as part of the Eastern Moors Partnership's work to open up the woodland a bit, encourage a mosaic of habitats, and make the crags a bit more visible in the landscape again.

It shouldn't effect the climbs on the crag too much, as most of the work is on the slopes below, but there might be some felled wood around the boulders. If it looks a mess, be assured its all in a good cause. There will be a work meet in early March if anyone wants to lend a hand.

In a similar vein, BMC volunteers are continuing to work with the EMP on managing the landing under the Trackside boulder. Whilst the landing under the boulder has stabilised well, the path is rather churned up at the mo. We are getting some more hardcore delivered soon and will be having another work day (probably a Saturday morning) in the next few weeks. Hopefully that will be enough to sort things out. It will take a couple of years for the vegetation to recover and come back in, so don't expect miracles, but again the objective is a more sustainable solution in the long term.

It'd be good if we could get a few more people involved in this next time, so we can blitz it much quicker. Shouldn't take too long and it'll make a big difference.

Aye and the more shovels and wheelbarrows the better.

I own a shovel and I'm keen to help out.

I presume someone will post the date on here when it's been decided?

Count me in as well - I've contributed to the degradation of that area of ground over the years so only fair that I help with its repair.
