I am about 5"2 with a +1 ape index and have set myself the goal of doing a 1-4-7, so this got me thinking who's the shortest person/kid to have done a 1-5-9?
Chris

are we talking 1-5-9 or 1-5-8.5?

good point, i was buzzing to do 1 5 9 when i did but then found out it was 8.5. Gutted.....
-
Ru's done 1-5-9 hasn't he? He's not exactly tall, though I have no idea what that amounts to in numbers.
-
technically ru's done 1-5 then taken his bottom hand off and done a one-armer way past the point of where most people finish then grabbed 9 on his way back down. i don't know if we can count this as 1-5-9 or just 1-5-most mutated thing ever seen. for the record he's 4ft8
-
Shortest 1-5-9 is meaningless if the person weighs half a stone.
More impressive would be the person doing 159 with the most unfavourable armlength to weight ratio.

i agree completely dave which is why i also discount tall people dynoing and climbing on grit
-
Why limit it to dynos and grit?
-
Because everything else is shit?

The pantheon of gritstone legends is hardly filled with the lanky though is it? Unless you forgot a comma and you actually just meant 'I discount climbing on grit'?
-
nobody mentioned pantheons and their legacys? i just said i discount tall people dynoing and climbing on grit
for the record, i was on the grit yesterday. did i enjoy it? no

You should write a blog with insights like that.. ;)

:-\
Is that:
tall people dynoing and (tall people) climbing on grit
or
tall people dynoing and (any) climbing on grit

Amen! When will it happen!?

I'm 5' 7 with a +¾ ape and I think 1-4-7 is miles although I've done it before bit not since my last big injury.can't imagine having the reach for 1-5-8

I don't get it why would you make the last rung a half :S, or am i missing something obvious?
Who's this Ru guy?
-
RuPaul.
See google.

I just can't imagine why this topic would get any, even slightly inane answers, it defies all reason. Is nothing sacred? Who'll think of the children!?

Don't worry about it. Ru's just a myth; a legend used to scare children to sleep at night.
1-5-9(8.5) was the original rung spacing at the School; a clever use of progression techniques...

5'9 with -1/2 ape index, and can do 1-5-8 and 1-4-8. No 9th rung where i train, which is handy enough as sure as hell i can't do it... yet.
Reach is not a problem, train/pull harder and you'll get to look smug when you burn off people with longer reach. :jab:
Save the height wild card as a excuse to fail in proper routes. It will look more convincing that way. :bounce:

I am 173 cm tall, I think that equals to 5'8". I have done 1-5-8 once and never touched a campus board ever since.
I think with some more technique (twisting instead of staying frontal) I could have done more but who knows.
I must have a vid made by The Guru somewhere, with various feats of failure on a campus board.
