Title: Spray-bot 3000

I was thinking about climbing spray the other day, it’s been a while since I really had anyone fully spraying at me in person. I wondered does it all just happen online these days or have we all become self conscious of our own spray potential we just don’t do it anymore? I’m pretty guilty of spray on here as I’ll post videos of climbing a route I feel proud of, not because I think it’s a massive achievement to anyone but me, but a lot of the time because I think it might add something of interest. I wonder is this a different kind of spray from the super hyped spray of many in the limelight? Maybe there should be an anti spray spray. As in I fucking hate those spray bots posting their spray and the mutual commercial spray and gain that goes with it.

Spray and beta are two different things surely? Spray is a subset of beta, but not all beta is spray.

Beta is any info about a route or problem, gleaned from any source.

Spray is someone bellowing at you what you do next at the top of their voice as you climb, interspersed with interjections such "nice" "solid" "you got this" "have it" etc etc.

That’s definitely a particular type of spray. The other would be something like that overhyped e9 in dovedale. Or the subtle kind of spray like the font or Yorkshire compilation vid spray. Possibly one of the worst is the false modesty spray or the ‘I don’t really train’ spray. Sits next to the reverse psychology sandbag spray.

Yup.

Winds me up when people start throwing them at me. They really don't help me climb, and they ruin my zen state. Plus, my chalk goes everywhere when they start flapping. Perhaps I'm just grumpy.
