I am looking for a simple online version of a sequencing program/ game that I can use with my special needs school kids.
I remember a game I used to play on the old x box where you drag and drop blocks of sounds (drums, keyboards etc) which would be ideal.
Just wanted to appeal to the collective knowledge on here before I troll through the seemingly endless google results

if the school signs up for Purple Mash, there is something similar to what you describe on there

Purple mash might be a bit too basic

My kids have GarageBand on the iPad which I think does something like that and seems to keep them happy enough for a while.

Music 2000 (https://thump.vice.com/en_uk/article/ae9eqz/music-2000-was-the-greatest-and-only-way-to-produce-jungle-on-your-playstation) was a PS1 game that had drag and drop of samples, but isn't online and wasn't very simple

OIympia Noise Co are an amazing company and are making electronic music sequencers that are seriously decent.
I think the dot Melody app is in the area of what you're looking for and it's also very cheaply available on iphone and Ipad. Patterning is incredible for drums.

I used to like messing with GarageBand, but I think it stopped working after one of the iOS updates.
Auxy, lets me knock up some basic stuff and play around when I’m bored with “real” music.
