Title: Sudden painful lump in forearm
Post by: Durbs on June 30, 2018, 08:04:21 am
Woke up on Wednesday with what felt like a bruise on the inside of my forearm.
I haven't climbed for ages, and don't even think i fingerboarded the night before... Maybe a couple of pull-ups passing under it.

Anyway, now Saturday, it's bigger, still sore, but doesn't look like a bruise. Only really hurts if I press on it ("so stop pressing on it"), occasionally whilst hoiking toddler/baby about.

Likely not actually a climbing injury, but you all seem to be pretty good with these types of things!

Thoughts?

Sorry I don;t know, but I do think if it's not getting significantly worse nor affecting forearm function, that you should keep playing with it and prodding at it quite regularly, I know I would :)

So did lots of manual labour stuff over the weekend, carrying bricks and what not, and no pain from it.

Current theory is it's a reaction to a bite, though it's not itchy.
Originally I thought it was a tendon/flexor tear, but it's on the muscle, not under it.

I'll keep poking it to see if that helps

Hi Durbs,

Could it be a ganglion cyst? I think I've got one on my left inner forearm. It never hurts, just looks a bit weird. And possibly was caused by a little climbing injury in the tendon sheath.

Hmmm - possibly. The general swelling has gone down, and there's now definite shaped lump in there.

More poking and prodding required I reckon.

Shine a torch through it. If it's translucent then it's likely to be a ganglion or something of the sort. That said, painful lumps appearing anywhere would have me straight to the GP, if only to rule out anything insidious!

It's right in the middle of my forearm - so no way of shining light through it (I'm not THAT weak).

But yes, doc's already booked in for a couple of weeks' time.
