Hi anyone know if there is any bouldering on Jura or Islay? My girlfriends in the jura fell race this weekend. thanks
-
Dave, if you have a look in the SMC Guide for Arran and Inner Hebrides it gives grid refs for where some bouldering can be found, but doesn't list individual problems. Definitely some listed on Islay, can't recall what it says about Jura.

thanks Chris will check it out.

Contact whisky baron Tom Mills as I think he knows something.

Hi Dave, I'm on Islay and Jura for a week as of this coming Saturday for the whisky festival. I began training for the Jura race too but knee issues stopped play.
I did a lot of map scoping last year and am quite confident that a bit of a trek towards the North-North West of the island would lead you to some good (unclimbed) small arches. There is a thread on here somewhere about it...
I would love to join you but I'm not climbing just at the minute. I'm there every year at the same time and would be good to join you if you go over again next year. Happy hunting!

Hi thanks for all for the info. Probably just go for a walk and see what I can find. Also going to try my luck with a bit of sea fishing. Monolith good luck with your knee problems. Its an annual pilgrimage for Sonja hopefully 3rd time lucky!

Some possible contenders for a visit in this area http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NR3676. Have a search around on the sight in adjacent grid squares too as some other possible spots by the look of it.

Have a good trip Dave. I'll also be fishing, specifically on the fly for sea trout. My annual shot at tempting one of the wee beasties!

Thanks Dave. I'm not sure how many days you'll be there for but I'll be at each distillery throughout the week for their respective open days. Come say hello if you do get along to one. I'll be the lanky guy probably still with a beard.

with a beard.
Yeah, won't be many of those at a whisky festival.

Climb magazine last year had an article by John Watson on 'Secret British Blocs' in Scotland (downloadable for free from their website) which mentioned Sanaigmore in the northwest of the island. It might be worth a look.

Do you have a link at all Eddies? Keen to see it!

Just go to climb mag archives

More importantly, did you get any fishing done!?
