I've got one day in font next weekend whilst visiting a friend in Paris. And I'm very excited.
Probably go to l'elephant so he can wander round and take pretty pictures.
2 questions:
1. what's the name and location of a restaurant near there that i vaguely remember being mentioned on here as being really good
2. any classics I should look at beyond the obvious circuits. only got one (probably hungover) day so looking at anything up to 7aish, quality more important than grade.
any knowledge much appreciated

the restaurant is the Chalet Joubert in the car park for the Dame Jouanne (sp?) just down the road.
My own experience there wasn't good but that was ages ago.
Voie Michaud is good at 6c.
NB easiest place to get from Paris is Rocher canon.
Train to Bois-le-Roi then a 20 min walk

the restaurant is at dame jouane. its been good everytime i've been there.
don't got to elephant, its shit. all your mate will get is a photo of a sandy boulder that bears a passing resembleance to a pachyderm. tell him to have a look at it on google then fuck off to a decent crag, one with some ambience, some nice views, some problems that aren't death highballs and don't turn to sand in your hands. i'm talking apremont, cuisiniere, toit pignons etc. fuck, anywhere is better than elephant.

My last experience there was sipping Desperados that were being served by a couple of nubile waitress' who had perfected the arse wiggling walk that many french femmes have down to a T
I really enojoyed Dame Jouane area. First time I'd been there, despite several visits to L'Elephant in the past (and it wasn't just the waitress' at the end of the day).

Le Couer (7a) (http://bleau.info/elephant/406.html) is a fairly obvious one at L'Elephant.

we'll have a car but could be an option if we're really hung

, cheers.
i quite like elephant...
ok, so you have one day in font for pleasant pootling and easy access, the area you would go to iiiisssss....

........Red / Blue Circuits - Gorge Aux Chats. Quality problems, beautiful setting, five minute walk in.
However, if you are intent on Elephant then La Couer, Lepreux Direct, Wayne Rooney's Head Assis and Black 36 are good.
slackers - are you sure that was at Chalet Joubert or have you been at the crack pipe again? Every time we've been it's been shut and we've been told so in no uncertain terms by a gnarly bastard with a big dog. No sign of fit women whatsoever.
-
any of the following:
canon
apremont
chats
sabots
isatis
cuvier
bois rond
you can't go wrong.

Well I'd had a few pipes, but of the green stuff not ice.
-
i was intent on elephant but i feel i'd be letting the side down now, though i would like to get on la coeur.
at least i know where i'll be going for lunch, if the big scary dogman lets me
-
If it is shut then the bar in Larchant just down the road is really nice and serves good food. That also has funny opening times though. :wall:

thank you, thank you very much.
and failing anything being open theres always the staple cheese and baguette option
-
i wouldn't eat any food laced with staples, could cut your gums to shreds.
the french opening times are hilarious at best. generally the lunch hour runs from 09:01 to 16:59.

Not sure why L'Elephant is getting such a bashing. It is a pretty good venue especially in the week and not during holidays when there aren't hordes of tourists there. The holds can be friable after rain (I broke Absurdomanie on my first attempt!) but generally pretty good quality rock. If you walk out to Elephant North it is generally quite peaceful and there are some nice 7as upwards to go at.
Good problems up to 7a are:-
La Dalle aux Polly 4+ - a high slightly overhanging pocketed wall of the beaten track and a classic
Le Couer 7a
Le Lepruex Direct 7a
Absurdomanie 7a
Le Toit de Loup 6b
Le Pilier Droyer 6c+
Le Pilier Legendaire 7a
The blue circuit is good and airy in places...
-
thanks for all those, may well try and check some of them out
-
it's not a pretty good venue, it's absolutely turd
-
Obviously depends on what you want from a venue. I think the Orange circuit there is superb, great fun going round that with a bunch of friends (on a quiet day of course).
-

:agree: not too polished either.

A bit harsh me thinks..
Horses for Courses. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. etc..
Even given that there are of course difference's in opinion, I don't think the place could qualify as being absolutely turd. There are some very good classic problems there which IMO promotes it immediately above the level of absolute turd.
To be fair... Having said all this if I had one day in Font I don't think I'd go to Elephant, there are better places but it still worth a visit, if you haven't ticked everything you want to there and it's a quiet day.
-
don't go to dame jouanne restaurant, its gone downhill in the last few years. Go to au bureau in font instead and have the empire state burger. fucking dynamite.
Also don't go to elephant if you've on'y got one day in font, go to sabots
-

i dont suppose thats an empire state veggie burger?
-
In France?!
-
there is plenty of grass in the fields if thats what you want to eat

no no, grass isn't for eating, un empire spicy bean burger et des frites will do me nicely
-
this is France, not a hippy commune

This is the correct assessment (and what Dave said).

I'm surprised the waiter doesn't slap you when you ask for that.
