FWIW I've been making espresso at home for years, getting decent coffee beans has always been problematic. Even Steve's (http://www.hasbean.co.uk/) supply doesn't always produce the best coffee.
Square mile (http://shop.squaremilecoffee.com/) is the answer - every batch I've had has been awesome. The hit I got this morning from their "Red Brick" blend was enough to make me write this post. Possibly not the best tagline: "good enough to prompt internet postings".
