Title: Climbing Jeans?
Post by: St Hubbins on October 18, 2008, 11:46:34 pm
I know Moon, Prana & E9 make them. But are any of the other companies making them?

Been wearing the moon Skinks and caught the Seb Grieve bug so looking to get some more.

Like the look of the Prana Axioms so wondering if anyone has them? What they think?

my mate's got some prana jeans and they seemed to wear fast and ripped a bit around the arse - where the back pocket stitches on the main body of the jean you know, poor.  not sure of the model but put me off getting any anyway.  Don't blurr do some jeans?  Can vouch for their climbing pants - lived, slept and climbed in 'em for over a month on harsh granite plus the rest, still going strong and everyone'll tell you i look great in them.

I think patagonia make a pair.   Also theres a U.S company called arborwear that make a pair of jeans.  I've been bouldering in a pair for over a year and they're top.  gussetted crotch and the works.

Thats suprising, considering the usual quality of their stuff, From what i've found anyway.

Will look them up? Did you buy them online from any particular site?

My brother swears by Dickies Carpenters Jeans. Uber hard wearing for a mere £15 off the interweb.

Exactly! If they promoted them as beer proof then I may be interested!

not wanting to piss on anyones bonfire here but hows about just going to TKmaxx and buying any old jeans? they don't need articulated knees, goretex lining or a electronic crotch, just make sure they're baggy enough.

rumour was at one time was that the moon jeans everyone paid £60 a throw for were just £5 tesco value jeans with the logo embroidered on.

If i find stretch jeans that look reasonable then i would buy them. Unfortunatly most value jeans only come in 'trainspotter stonewash blue' hence i then can't go straight to he pub after and look respectable.

I'm a Tesco's jeans man, all shades of trainspotter stonewash, £15 with a free belt - bargain! Some don't look to bad in the pub afterwards either, well, atleast no-ones told me otherwise!

If you're from Sheffield, I'd highly recommend a trip to TJ Hughes - jeans for £4 a pair, and you can get em in blue, grey and khaki...bargain.

Sainsbury's do a decent pair for £15 (with belt, not stonewash  ;) ) but the best jeans I've ever had for climbing (and then going to the pub in afterwards) are a pair of Hugo Boss (snides obviously) that I got from ebay for £40 ("RRP" £155). Sadly I'll probably never find any similar to replace them and they are wearing seriously thin now.  :'(

Basically I agree with dave. As long as you get jeans that fit correctly for the required range of movement they don't even need to be too baggy to be fine for climbing. I always avoid "climbing" labels but that's just me.
