I’d been planning my first trip to Thorn Crag, but according to UKC it can get quite gritty in winter. I’ve been burnt, as it were, by scritty rock in the past and when I’m making the trip up from London especially I want to ensure best conditions. Can anyone offer advice?

It's very fine textured grit; it's lovely.
Climbing here after rain would be a bad idea. It'll be very cold if it's windy.
Many of the less regularly climbed problems may feel scrittly but I wouldn't worry about the rest.
Parking seems to be a bit sensitive so do so thoughtfully.
Is it on the way somewhere (or was there something specific)? I really like the area but it's one of the closest to where I live. It wouldn't be first on my hit list if I was driving significantly further!

Thanks. That’s really helpful. I had been planning the trip up from London especially, having ticked a lot of grit destinations in the Peak and Yorkshire. It seemed like a logical next step. So do you think it’s not worth making a special trip for? I could always look a returning or more minor peak/Yorkshire grit destinations.
Either way, the detail on rain and wind is very helpful.
