I need to drive to sheff later, does anyone know whether the Snake is open? ta
-
my snake is always open for you petal ;D
not sure about the pass tho
-
thanks for that pregnant horse
-
I'm sure its generally on some website or other (bbc?) when they close the snake.
-
ye i've had a look. Hopefully no news is good news
-
did snow pretty heavy this morning for a while though. might be safer bet to try going via chapel etc.
-
Whichever way, do it sooner rather than later mate. Very heavy snow forecast for Sheffield later this pm / evening. Could be fucking chaos....
-
A628 (Woodhouse Pass) tends to stay open for longer I believe (Bubba can likely corroborate or dismiss this conjecture though as he'll have more experience).
-
shit the crap! ta geezers
-
It was fine on the way back last night
-
The A6, Whaley etc is all clear just in case you need to take the lower route.
-
I'll second Doylo's query about the Snake, also, anyone got any first hand knowledge of the Woodhead Pass from today? I've got some work colleagues after an update. Cheers all.

Aye, it's a bit wider and the wagon traffic tends to help keep it clear for longer. That said, don't follow wagons over if it looks dodgy, they can deal with much more snow than a car can.
The BBC Travel site will usually show any road closures due to weather. Sheffield (http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/sheffield/) or Derby (http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/derby/). Everything looks open today.

There's heavy snow forecast for the Sheffield area later on today so it may mess things up later.
There's always the M62 if the smaller passes get shut, they usually try to keep that open even when the weather is dreadful.
I'm working later so if I'm headed over the Pennines I'll post an update in the morning.

Cheers Bubba, good knowledge.
-
Snake pass is fine, I've been back and forwards over it over the last few days (including today) and although the scenery gets a bit whiter the roads remain fine.
-
Bubba, M62 Westbound shut at the Hudd J24 and no traffic allowed on at 23 or 24A. I drove past the tail of the blockage as I crossed the M62 on the A62 Rochdale road just past Outlane. Cars stretched off into the distance over Hindleys picnic spot.
here you go fruits,

Cheers stallion - closed because of an accident though, not the white stuff....yet.
-
Snake and woodhead both shut this morning.
-
Beat me to it. Was gonna post this (http://buxtonweather.co.uk/)
-
Anyone know the score with the a6? Or should I just head for the m62? Ta
-
A6 is all clear in the High Peak Doylo.
-
Thanks
-
Anyone got the latest? Due to drive to manc today, highways agency thing has said it's been open for a few days now but all that time it's been flagged as 'hazardous driving conditions'. Is that to keep the idiots away or is it genuinely a bit necky?
Ta in advance,
Steve

It was fine on Monday, i'd heard rumours about bad conditions but it was ok. If it hasn't snowed there since it should be ok
-
Fantastic, just what I wanted to hear :) Cheers
-
bearing in mind its snowed about 3 times since monday......nothing heavy though.
-
Just come over the 623 through Stoney as traffic news said pass shut. Steady light snow all the way. Wouldn't fancy climbing at curbar :/ only a covering on the ground but only -1 so may melt instead of brushing off (if someone could copy to eastern edges conditions report?)

Can confirm I'm in manchester and alive after risking it for a biscuit and going via A57. It's not closed and there's a fair amount of traffic going through at pretty much normal speed. Was a bit concerned by the light snow in sheffield but it didn't materialise into anything.
There are a couple of bits that might get icy if the temp drops massively, it's wet and salty at the sheffield end (make sure screenwash works, it's filthy out there) and there are ice signs around snake top and on the steepest bend before it but it's not bad, lots of people on it keeping it clear.
Another thing, the road from A57 towards Bamford is supposed to be uncleared, covered in snow and dangerous according to the highways agency, looked pretty clear to me and there was traffic going up and down it.
edit: No queues at Mottram, glossop was a lot less busy than a normal weekend too.

Anyone know if the Snake is open. BBC doesnt say anything..I dont really trust the various travel websites..do they cover a non priority road?
Cheers Shaun
