Off to France for a week soon and won't be anywhere near the gym or owt, so was thinking about doing a bit of running (gasp!), much as I hate it.
Rather than getting a Nike style road trainer, I was looking at stuff like this:
http://www.fiveten.com/products/index.php?action=item&id=20
Anyone used stuff like this? Any good for general running that might include road running or is it better just to get a Nike style thangL?

They look quite good, you can't beat Asics for running though. Nike make fashionable shoes - not running ones.
Buy em!

cockbum, sorry, rockrun.com have got the old trail almighty 5:10 running shoes in for 45 notes, if they've still got your size. apparently their lighter than a kitten's fart.
-
Bollocks - only size 10 up! They'd be ideal I reckon...
Mind you, these look quite funky too: http://www.rockrun.com/shop/prod.html?d=3&t=107&p=2231&sid=d60d2f8b89fd9d95ca57c45518cefbac

might be worth phoning them up just in case they get any returned - i belive the sizing is sometimes a bit wayward on fiveten trainers/approach shoes, you might drop on.
-
Yeah, might do that coz I don't want to spend much on a decent shoe that I'm not going to use all that much. Mind you, make a good general approach shoe too I suppose and my old approach boots are shagged now.
-
fink those almighty are waterproof anall.
or just get some hi-tec silver shadows for a fiver - mmmmm classy.

when I used to run a lot (marathons and a few fell races) the best piece of advice I ever had was buy your running shoes two sizes two big.
sounds daft when you're shelling out for next to nothing but after a few miles you'll be glad you didn't get the blisters.
try the shoes on with your eyes closed. they might not look too good, but you won't give a shit when your feet are covered in mud and there's ten miles left to go. Another good point is that your running shoes should only be for running in, not climbing or chilling, just running, and leave them at least 24 hours after a run before you wear them again.
Some of the stiff NB are good, but a good lightweight racing shoe (good on roads and OK off road) is the NIke Skylon at about £50, but it depends on your foot shape.
don't forget to use vaseline on your toes.

Trawled Meadowhell last night and found a bargain pair of Asics Gel Turango's for only £22 - nice! They're like walking on springs....
-
This is still trainer-related, but on a different subject....
Does anyone know where i cen get a pair of blue adidas campus shoes? seems no-one has them in these days, and when i do see them (like in posh shops) they're always like £50+ which is ridiculous for what is essentially a very basic shoe. My old pair of corduroy ones are full of holes now, after about 5-6 years service (£30 in 1997ish), but these days it hard enough getting trainers that arne't bright white Nike Cortez or some scrote shit like that. Keep seeing the odd pair on sale but never my size (10). Bo.

Hmmmm....dunno but if you're in Meadowhell check the place I went to out - it's just to the right of the Sainsbury's entrance (not the outdoor one) and is a massive sports store - they have got more trainers in one place than I've ever seen in my life.
-
Aye, thats Sports Soccer, theres one on the Moor anall opposite debenhams. They do have some stuff on cheap but its mainly all shiney white crap and weird stuff.
-
Yeah, it is mainly shiny white crap - the things I got last night were shiny white crap but it's ok coz they're only for the gym/running and not for out and about.
The other place I've got bargains is in the Shuh discount racks, where I've picked up some right stuff for 20 notes, but you're pretty unlikely to get exactly what you want there.
I am the new Imelda Marcos - I have a trainer addiction....
-
After all this deliberation I went for a quick run in France - only about 1.5 miles to get into it as I've not run for a decade. Thought I'd be fine, having been doing shed loads of cross trainer stuff at the gym but it damn near killed my legs and I couldn't walk without pain for the rest of the week - oh how the piss was ripped out of me :D
