Title: signing in
Post by: nik at work on May 16, 2006, 12:39:23 pm
Why is it that when I first come to the home page I am not signed in however if I click a link (say to go to the bouldering forum) then when I get there (incidentally much quicker than the old forum IMHO  :)) I am signed in. And if I go back to the home page I'm signed in. Not really bothered just curious.

Not sure - your browser might have cached the "logged out" front page? Clear all your temporary internet files, etc.

This is a tricky one to sort out simply because I can't recreate the problem here :(

An idea:

When you first come to the home page, are you using www.ukbouldering.com ?

This can make a difference with cookies since the rest of the site will operate as just ukbouldering.com, without the "www." ?

What happens if you just go to "ukbouldering.com" in the first instance?

Ok, I've just changed a board setting that was hidden away which allows "subdomain independent cookies".

If you were having the problem described above, this should hopefully solve it...

Well, that saves you typing www. then ;)

Yeha, it looks like it's the www. thing for me also.
Bubba you're a hurricane of problem solving IT geekiness, and for that I salute you

when I move to different pages, it seems to revert back to the 23rd may. can get round it by refreshing the page but have to do it on every page more or less. could just be my computer reverting it cached pages tho. will be doing a full reinstall very soon anyway
