Any chance of installing some kind of Faceache style "like" option? Would mean we could show appreciation where a post doesn't necessarily warrant a wad point?
-
*like*

I'm not sure that would be such a good idea. One of the best things about UKB is that people are more willing to make honest and controversial statements that provoke intelligent discussion. If you introduced a measure of your post's popularity, the variety of opinions you see on the forum may be diluted as people quickly figure out what the "popular" opinion is.

This could happen, rather like Reddit.
You would need the opposite too of course.
I doubt there is a readily available plugin for the SMF software on which the forums run that implements it, but I've not checked (URL for SMF site is at the bottom of every page if anyone wants to go hunting).

On a related point I do wonder whether newbies are deterred/intimidated from posting from seeing Wadlords like Lagers and J-Spur with a gazillion points.
Maybe an annual zeroing would be healthy ?
-
Personally I think its a great idea. Whats not to like? ;)
Plenty of options to do it...
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=smf+like+button&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr,ssl&ei=VAc6VfKYBoTcaueSgMgF
Importantly, it means it the POST that gets the credit rather than the AUTHOR... can go hand in hand with the Wad system.

You mean like 8a.nu's system of an 'annual' and 'all-time' waddage score? Get in!
Alternatively there could be a 'hot' rating for popular posts ...
-
I'm be opposed to like/dislike buttons because
a) the forum isn't Reddit/Farcebook/Google+/Twatter.
b) it might lead to less participation whereby people just click the like/dislike button rather than engaging with others users.
-
I agree with slackline, if someone agree or disagree with a post I rather they comment on it than click on a thumb.

Don't see a need for it.

:badidea: in my opinion.

log button?

what's the capital gains allowance for wad points for this current tax year?
-
Furry muff, it is after all a democratic forum!
However, I think it works well on other fora I frequent and whilst I agree that this forum is not like any facebook et al I disagree that it might discourage people from posting and/or enable people to work out what is popular...
-
Great idea. I very often want to show appreciation of a post but don't actually have anything further to add than "I agree" / "+1" / "Good post" etc, and it seems wasteful to post just that (and OTT to give a wad point). A like button would be perfect for that.

Pink Anasazi button?

I agree with Slackline. However I wouldn't be opposed to showing next to a post whether it has attracted positive or negative karma for the poster. (i.e. a post would show stats of "+3, -1" if the poster has been wadded 3 times and puntered once for it)

Do the math Will,
If I've 10000 posts and c 300 wads, that means 1 in 33 posts may have a wad related to it (a gross under estimate, as if you get wadded for a post its generally multiple times). So, you're likely to see fewer than 1 in 50 posts with any sort of wad index against them..
Anyway, I suspect nothing will happen... because...
-
I think karma would tend to gather on particular posts though. It would mean you could then search for "most wadded post"/"most smited post" etc.
Anyway, I'm quite happy with it all as it is

For what it's worth, I still think this is really good idea...
I want to say a quick "well done" to casa for weight loss (http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,8101.5375.html) and give Old Man Matt a "nice one!" for getting out on t' moor early doors (http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,8101.5375.html) and neither of these things necessarily warrant a wad point. They haven't done something "waddy" yet I still want to say I appreciate them taking the time to post and share their joy...
I don't really get how it isn't a good thing. :agree: pretty much what Fiend said earlier...
Yours,

You can just post what you'd like to post, it's not wasteful, we're not gunna run out of internet (correct me here if there is something techy I don't know about)
I don't consider 'good efforts' to be filler, it's piss easy to scroll through anyway. I could make some pseudo-intellectual comment on the rising usage of 'likes' outside of FB, but I won't.

I think I'm just lazy/stricken with a very modern malaise of wanting everything easy like! Even this...
just copy and paste this
...is more effort than just clicking like!
I now feel like I'm downgrading people's efforts by being too lazy to type!!
-
Why not have a like button but in true ukb fashion call it something else. ?

Well, Fuck Botton is already taken

It has to be said, if you can't be bothered to type such things as "Nice one" or "good effort", one must question how heartfelt the sentiment is.
-
Jensen Button?
Fatneck stop trying to turn the forum into Facebook.

Good point Sam and Jasper, I'll stop now [emoji13]

it don't do jack though... :(
Don't know why theres so much hate on the idea.. I use a different *non climbing* forum and it has a like button and its great...
Anyway, I'll get back under my rock - or rather I'll crawl out of the primordial soup and onto land etc..
-
A word button word?
Button: Moon
(or maybe to use the yoof parlance, "innit")

Bump to this - looks like the like function is working on tapatalk as both Fatneck and me have 'liked' the same posts.. And it's showed on the post (not on web version though)
