Title: Latest upgrade
Post by: Bubba on January 09, 2010, 09:57:52 am

A significant upgrade

- brand new theme
- openID login is fixed
- many performance upgrades
- about 960 bugfixes from the previous version

As usual, please report any problems here, but before you do empty your browser cache or do a forced refresh to pull in the new files from the server (CTRL + F5).

Please empty your cache / CTRL+F5 and try again. I've emptied the theme cache at this end...

"Don't like it"

When i view on my phone the site reformats to the width of the screen. This blows a bit cos instead of being able to scroll round you just end up with a tiny vertical column of posted text at the right of the screen once all avatars and borders etc have been accounted for. Obviously its worst when holding the phone vertically.

I pray this is fixable in config.

+ works well on phone (BB)
+ indexing

- page space per post too great (function of avatar/sig formatting?)

On some of the posts the signature is displayed to the right and down a bit of the original message. Just me?

Hmmm yes, they do seem to have changed the way the screen size is detected. I'll ask over at the SMF forums.

If you just want to read the forums on your phone, without all the bandwidth hungry stuff, then the best way is to use:

http://ukbouldering.com/board?imode (http://ukbouldering.com/board?imode)

Obviously this isn't much good if you want to look at photos and stuff.

We've had this before and I can't remember what the fix for it was - I'll have to have a dig, I know it was something very simple.

Exceptionally minor but in the new quote boxes there only appears to be an opening double quote and no closing.

Possibly a missing image file for the closing quotes?

Doesn't detract from browsing/reading though.

Nah, it's supposed to be like that - it's like that on the SMF forums. A bit odd I know! Might be worth hacking to put in a close quote too...

I'm not sure what you mean by the problem tbh - I can't see any difference to how it was before  :-\

Try reducing your font size?

<edit - did the font size for sigs used to be different? >

Just a minor request, is there any way the signatures can be justified to the bottom like before? It is only noticeable in one line replies/posts or is this a new 'feature'? Is this the same as what Soapy/Will Hunt are saying?

It is like this in Chrome 3.0 and IE8, not tried in Firefox as I don't use it, sorry. I have deleted caches in both and tried ctrl+f5.

Anyway here is a screen shot (Chrome) to show what I mean:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/4261863555_e24c3014fd_o.jpg (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/4261863555_e24c3014fd_o.jpg)

Box in red shows the space below the signature, box in black shows the signature right beneath the post.

I think the problem is IE6 - it was so pants almost nobody will support it anymore.

Is this the same in Firefox or Opera, does anyone know? Or is it a global thing? I will swap browsers if that fixes the problem..

Which browser are you using? In FF I haven't noticed any change from the previous version of the forum, but I may be being stupido.
Title: Re: Latest upgrade
Post by: Tris on January 13, 2010, 08:29:38 pm
Google Chrome 3.0 (and 4.0 at work) and IE8.

There is a screenshot above, it's nothing major like I say, just annoying...I know you can't keep everyone happy so don't waste too much time on it. If it's fixable by me swapping to FF, then I will gladly do so :)

Cheers Bubba

Well, it all looks a lot more sophisticated, which I like. Thanks Bubba!

But the "first line of post" popup seems to have disappeared (not vital, but i quite liked it and I have a horrible deja vu feeling that I've mentioned this after a previous upgrade... so I guess it's not a default setting?)

And everything seems a bit more s p a c e d out (vertically, anyway). Either that or the order on the front forums page has changed?
<Edit - I think the FAQs have been given higher billing than Technical now - doesn't work for me as I look at the Computers etc forum more than FAQs>

Oh, and the Donate button seems to have vanished.

The unread posts problem usually clears up after the database session table is optimized which happens once per day automatically.

I'll be addressing (or not) some of the other problems raised here when it becomes clear what the future of the site is.

If you could change it from 'unread posts since last visit' to just 'unread posts' it would solve the problem for me
