So very tragic, Ian was such a quality guy who always had a happy face and never a bad word to say.One of those guys who when you think about its makes you smile.
He took his brand new marrage seriously, cutting back on climbing to work and save for this wedding/new life and this happens...
So sad.

:sorry:This is my first post on UKBouldering and possibly my last.  But given the circumstances and the bad news about the late Ian Martin Redmond (Squeek), I shall make an effort.

To me Ian is a bouldering, sport climbing and a genuine friend.  We both have shared many experiences in the time I knew him from meeting at BoulderUK, getting snowed off in Northumberland, drinking wine in Ceuse in a shit rental car and bouldering in font.  He was totally in love with Gemma (his wife) and was a family man.

As Jordan says he was a quality guy and never had a bad word to say in life or in the climbing community.

He grafted his bollocks off over the last 2 years planning is wedding and making the situation perfect for his wedding day.  He sacrificed climbing and all his spare time for Gemma. Their weeding day can only be described as “perfect” by me and you could see they were totally made for each other.  He described her as his best friend- as she did him.

My thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends (both from the climbing and non climbing community) and may he Rest In Peace Redmond!! You will be sadly missed by all.

You are a legend to all who know you and a true friend.

This has really saddened me, I didn't know the guy but the timing and manner of his tragic death is heartbreaking. After the dust has settled maybe we should think about a collective gesture to make to his wife and family, plant a tree at his favorite crag, name a new route/problem after him etc.

There is something particularly poignant about something like this on someone's honeymoon. Even if I hadn't ever met him I would still think it terribly sad, only met him once or twice (at BUK). Nice guy.

Love and hugs to wife and family.

For once, words fail me.
I didn't know Ian, but I'm struck by the tragedy of this senseless thing.
The connection (tenuous, I know), brings it so much closer.
I can imagine, only too well, the suffering of his family and friends.
I hope, they find their way; that the weight they feel, can be carried.
Ian.
Climb when ready...

I've just read in the paper about Gemma (Ian's wife) saying at the funeral that she will continue to work on the house they were doing up together. So I was thinking that maybe a collection of UKBer's could donate a day of labour to help out with work on the house?
I didn't know Ian and don't have any way of contacting Gemma to suggest this but I would be very willing to go and spend a day or so at their house with an array of power tools or whatever's required. I'd imagine if we could get a bit of a group together there is the potential for getting a fair chunk of work done.
Anyway perhaps people could give their thoughts on this idea? And if anybody knows Gemma or other family members and would like to suggest it to them?
