Title: Visiting climber - lift requested
Post by: Ian W on April 12, 2015, 02:35:34 pm
We've got a visiting Euro chap next week; if anyone can offer a day's climbing entertainment in the peak from Sheffield on Wednesday 16th/ thurs 17th to somewhere interesting in the peak for a day ticking some classic blocs in the 7c - 8b region, or short routes in the 8b and upwards region (he's expressed an interest in Hubble, but has never lacked ambition or self confidence.....), he'd be grateful. Has rope and /or boulder pads available.
Staying in central sheffield, can get to the works really easily.
if you can help out, please contact 07917 891144

Thanks

ian

Monkey boy needs to know his name before he can commit, same with Johnny before he'll take pics  :P

Sebastian Halenke. He's perfectly civilised (except for the hairdo)

No interest in having pics taken. Its a social / working trip with  bit of climbing thrown in.

If he decides he likes it and wants to rent a room Dense is your man. Although 8B might not be enough...

Seen him at comps around here a few times, seems like a pleasant young chap in an extroverted sort of way. And strong.

He still has the hairdo?

Generally either winning them or coming second to Megos, so I can see how he could be motivated to burn Megos off

If I was in a good mood 8B could be enough at a push for the smaller room, I'll see whether it's acceptable on the BTL thread. But I've never trusted people with hair

You don't have to look after him; accommodation already sorted. He just wants to climb......

And as of a couple of weeks ago, the hairdo was still as red as ever. And as ridiculous.

I'm clearly missing part of an in-joke about renting rooms...........

Planning on heading to the Roaches Wednesday so if he wants a trip via Stoke (to pick up a tent for my sister in law) then he is more than welcome. No way I will be climbing anywhere near the levels that he is looking at but assuming he is willing to amuse himself and doesn't have an aversion to techno at loud volume then get in touch.

and doesn't have an aversion to techno at loud volume then get in touch.

Wow!

That's a big ask.

You have to get syked on the way to the crag - how else am I going to find the will to keep falling off mid range 6's all day? Also it could have been Fiend and Drum and Bass....  :???:

He can come to my work all day thurs, do some shredding and make the tea, then have an hours soloing at burbage before I go back to put the kids to bed.

The cunning plan is for malham / kilnsey on thursday. 'Scuse ignorance, but what is the bouldering like at the roaches?

Or he could get the bus out, and have several hours soloing, and avoid making tea etc etc.... :)

Suppose he could do that, yeah, can't see why he would though.

Inertia Reel traverse 8A+

Mushin 8A assuming its dry, which it probably is.

Plenty of other stuff worth doing of course

Tetris 7C is amazing. Columns next to it is 7C+ I think? Dan V has done a couple of 8's on the clouds too, names escape me atm.

Butters - you still available? what time would you be leaving / returning to Sheff?

call on 07917 891144 if you can.

Thanks

The Darkest Cloud was the one I was trying to remember, 8A and not on Robins list

Well spotted, it didn't show up because it was a soft 8A and the search algorithm was looking for solid 8A and up. Needs fixing.

Here are all the 7C+ and up on Western Grit (ie. mostly at the Roaches).

Pretty sure Tit Grip was 7C+ and is broken or has it been reclimbed now at 8A.

Stick him on Johnny's Groove, see if he confirms the grade....

Butters - cheers for the offer again. Ended up going to malham and got 3rd onsight of raindogs behind Ondra and Sharma, and 3rd ascent of transformer after Ste Mac and Malc Smith. Not bad for one afternoon. Back tomorrow to see if he can finish off the harder climb he worked all of the moves today. Bloody show off.
See what he manages in the county on Saturday.

Yep Transform in a sesh is pretty good!

In a very short sesh. Worked all the moves of rainshadow as well. In the same sesh. Like I said, bloody show off.

Has Raindogs really only been onsighted 3 times? This sounds terribly unlikely...

Unbelievable but true I think. Even the Milky Bar Kid fell off it.

I guess it's because most UK climbers try it as their first 8a...

Or maybe not that unbelievable if you've been to Malham.

Not a problem - that is a slightly better day than he would have had with me though I still contest that going to Stoke to pick up a tent would look a better entry on 8a.nu.  ;)

Butters, he'll be back later in the year, and once i'd explained about Stoke and its charms, he's well psyched for it  :) Keep a day open in your diary.....
