Title: measure your masculinity
Post by: Nibile on June 23, 2008, 07:12:11 pm
being unemployed and injured leads to many ways of passing time.
supreme way is: measuring body parts.
the supreme measure is: that one that cannot be put here.
the second supreme measure is: biceps.
my right bicep, is a miserable (in my expectations) 36 cm. left one 34.
now show me yours.

34 cm Nibs, but my bicep is....

My wrist is only 15 though. So if I paint my nails red and sit on my hand etc.. :wank:

I'm sure that this should be rationalised some how....maybe in a kind of Manliness/Tonne (kg?) ratio...  ;D

I'm sure that this should be rationalised some how....maybe in a kind of Manliness/Tonne (kg?) ratio...  ;D

May I suggest shaving the chest (no sneaky underarm hair to be included) and placing the contents in a standard 12 inch hanky. this could then be weighed (subtracting dry hanky weight) to give a completely accurate measure of Manliness in imperial Tonnes.

I just spoke to Jim and he's driving to/from Chester or something. He was barraging me with information on some measuring device, saying things like "it's Chester's equivalent of CERN and they claim it can measure any bicep every created on planet earth!". I thought he'd gone mad, but thinking about in the light of this thread, it all makes sense!

Well I propose that we redefine the term BMI to mean Bicep Mass Index, the calculation of said value being :

Circumfrence of bicep ( cm ) / ( Length of upper arm ( cm ) x Weight ( kg ) )

Note the upper arm is measured from point of elbow to bony point on shoulder ( on the same arm obviously )  ;D

I work with a bird who could "out gun" everyone on here. Her upper arms must be way more than 40cm in circumference however I'd guess that they are 10% muscle 90% lard. There should be a proviso on this contest that the arm can actually tense fully!

I have no accurate measuring facilities here. Will try to get a measusement of my puny bicep later and hope to beat magpie.

I'm at 31  :boohoo:
However I weigh in at 60.5 kilos which I reckon is probs pretty lightweight.

I reckon masculinity = mass (kg) / gun circumference (cm) (to 3 significant figures)

This gives me a masculinity standing of 1.95.

I'm packin' 17cm on the wrist and 27 on the forearm.

This has all gone a bit Purple Aki.

Actually, sack that. Travs' way is much better. Measurement of upper arm being from elbow bone to armpit apex I reckon is the easiest measurement.

Well I propose that we redefine the term BMI to mean Bicep Mass Index, the calculation of said value being :

Circumfrence of bicep ( cm ) / ( Length of upper arm ( cm ) x Weight ( kg ) )

Note the upper arm is measured from point of elbow to bony point on shoulder ( on the same arm obviously )  ;D

so: BMI and masculinity are two different indexes?
BMI= bicep/length x weight
MASC= bicep/weight
Title: Re: measure your masculinity
Post by: travs on June 25, 2008, 11:50:35 am
Having thought about this a bit more and discussed it with some leading scientists, we have decided to refine the BMI index to incorporate muscle bulk and to bring the value into a more sensible range. As such the new proposed BMI defenition is :

100 x Circumfrence of bicep ( cm )  x  Circumfrence of bicep ( cm ) / ( Length of upper arm ( cm ) x Weight ( kg ) )

I couldn't do a squared sign hence circumfrence multiplied twice ;D

Anybody who gets 100 is the perfect climber
Title: Re: measure your masculinity
Post by: unclesomebody on June 25, 2008, 12:05:29 pm
I think you're a few powers of ten out on your calculations, because to get 100 you would need an upper arm length of approx 2000cm assuming mean values for the rest.
Title: Re: measure your masculinity

Title: Re: measure your masculinity

I couldn't find a tape measure but my forearms are about the same as my biceps and this is about the same distance as from the bottom of my knee cap to the top of my ankle.

Title: Re: measure your masculinity
Post by: travs on June 25, 2008, 01:23:33 pm
You need to check your maths Unc, as an example here are my stats and BMI.

Bicep 38 cm
Arm Length 30cm
Weight 64kg

BMI = 100 x 38 x 38 / ( 30 x 64 ) = 75

The above figures are approximate as I need a piece of string or something to measure my bicep and they're not pumped I bet there well over 40 cm in reality ;)
Title: Re: measure your masculinity
Post by: unclesomebody on June 25, 2008, 01:34:30 pm
my apologies! You are of course correct. But for a golden ratio of 100 it stands that you're arm length must be very short.

I would change the perfect value to something else... but I leave that in your capable hands.
Title: Re: measure your masculinity
Post by: travs on June 25, 2008, 01:54:12 pm
Well I don't know, I suspect my real bicep measurement is 42cm and if I could lose 5.2 kg - I would be that mythical climber. Alternatively I could have major surgery and have my upper arms reduced by 2.6cm ;D

35cm bicep which is distressing as I know Keith's forearms are reputedly greater in circumference than this. I'm putting a bounty out for anyone that can obtain the official Bradbury forearm stats. This is like guess the weight of the Christmas cake at a country fair isn't it?

I think the person having a chest ~twice the size of the waist would be a benchmark triangle! (Lat flexing not included)

Crouch stop willy waving on the chest front. We're talking biceps here sunshine and the simple fact is you have non. Go start a sub 3% body fat thread somewhere you shrivelled triangular hobo.

If I could just add to that wonderful insult Tom...  how about "greasy, shrivelled, triangular, ginger hobo"?  Maybe add "punter" in there somewhere and it's the best description of Rich ever.

I don't usually check out strange men in pubs, but I clocked Jim's gun show on Friday night, and his stats are clearly bigger than the ones he offered, and he was only flexed enough to keep hold of his pint.

wrist = 17cm
forearm = 32cm
bicep = 36cm

jimmy that makes my guns bigger than yours and as is clear to see that is not true...

Everyone knows that Jim has either made a major mistake or is just plain lying. His guns are BIG.

What about this though?

Murray's guns are looking rather beefed up. How does it make you (you being the generic ukb crowd) feel to know that a tennis player has bigger biceps that you???  :lol:
