Title: Bouldersgate
Post by: comPiler on September 07, 2013, 04:41:54 pm
Home away from home - A short about my spring in Font (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2013/07/home-away-from-home-short-about-my.html)
23 July 2013, 5:00 am

I think this one pretty much speaks for itself, but just to give a brief summary, this video shows some of my most memorable moments from the time I spent in Fontainebleau (http://bleau.info/) this spring. There's been quite a few, even though the weather overall was far from great. And as always, apart from the climbing, I came to know many new friends, as well as being reunited with familiar faces that I do not see nearly as often as I would like. Everyone has in some way contributed to this video...

In order not to make those of you who decide to watch this, feel like I'm robbing you of too much time, I have tried to keep it kinda short. If you after having seen it, would happen to like to see more, I will be putting together some outtakes-shorts that I will publish as I finish them. This way you can choose how much is enough. Hope you enjoy what I did...

Something tells me that the name of this problem (http://27crags.com/crags/grottan/routes/burning-spear) has something to do with what your fingers feels like after having climbed on it.

Betavideo - Stora stygga vargen 7c+, Tjörnbroklippan (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2013/08/betavideo-stora-stygga-vargen-7c.html)
1 August 2013, 5:00 am

It´s rare that I tie myself to a rope, but towards the end of last summer it actually happend on more than one occation. I know that there is a few of you out there who doubts me on this (and I am not blaming you), so in order to have some proof, I decided to film one of these moments. Off course, as soon as I'd loaded the footage on to my computer, I forgot all about it. Until the other day when I was looking throw my video-gallery and stumbled upon the clip. It did not make much of a video, but at least some beta from distance for those of you interested in seeing how I climbed Stora stygga vargen at Tjörnbroklippan.

After finishing "Home away from home (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.se/2013/07/home-away-from-home-short-about-my.html)", I have not been cray keen on sitting in front of my computer, watching myself on the same climbs over and over again. To be honnest, I am not keen on editing any footage of me right now. But being able to work Victor in to the intro, made it worth putting together also the few bits of climbing-footage I gathered when spending a April-weekend in Kjugekull (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.se/2013/05/short-notice-kjugekull-trip.html) together with the Cabrera-Tillman family.

Post by: comPiler on September 07, 2013, 04:41:56 pm
LYO FOOD (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2013/08/lyo-food.html)
30 August 2013, 5:00 am

I am proud and happy to announce a new collaboration between me and LYO FOOD (http://lyofood.com/). A family run buisness that produces expedition-food.

During the past year, living and cooking in my van, I haven't exactly kept a very varied diet. The options of what you can keep and cook in a car are not huge, at least not with my cooking experience. I have consumed more than one can of tuna, and at some point, this went from being something I enjoyed, to something I ate just because I did not know of anything better. I will probably be cooking my pasta-pesto-tuna-dish on future trips aswell, but I will definetly be mixing it with meals from LYO.

After a week of adding boiling water to and eating out of different packages, which were said to contain  everything from bolognese to oatmeal, but in reality tasted exactly the same, I swore never to force myself through another one of these meals. But when a friend was praising this meal he'd tried out of a booth at the Outdoor-tradeshow in Friedrichshafen, I got too curiouse not to visit them myself.

It's impossible to beat her food, and if there is something I miss when being away from home, it´s her bolognese. However, I have yet not tried a better substitue to it, that I can make in my van (or in any other kitchen for that matter), then LYO's. Having any of their soups, mains, breakfasts or even just dried fruits, it's not hard to understand why they recieved the Outdoor industry award (http://www.outdoor-show.com/od-en/programme/winners-2013.php) for best meals available on the market. Everything is 100% natural and does not contain any preservatives, artificial food-additives, colorants or flavour enhancers. They even grow some of the herbs and fruits used in the products in their own plantations...

You can order their products off their website, and if you don't believe what I'm saying about it being great, I think you should get just one (I recommend the bolognese), and bring out on your next climbing day or why not just as work-lunch. This way you will either confirm what you are now thinking, that I'm really only exaggerating how good the food is. Or you will discover something that will save you allot of time and energy on future climbingtrips. I am fairly certain which one it will be...

Title: Spanish coffee

Spanish coffee (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2013/09/spanish-coffee.html)
11 September 2013, 6:24 am

As I'm sat in the schools cafeteria with my first cup of burnt coffee of the day, I can't help thinking back on where I was a year ago. Appart from the climbing, if there is something I miss about Spain, it's the ability to walk in to nearest place serving coffee and enjoy a great tasting Cafe  con leche. Most of the times for less than a euro. The fact that  Spanish coffee is cheap, ironically made me spend way more money buying  it than I do back home, since all I ever did when I wasn't climbing, was being sat looking  through the guidebook in the nearest café.

My first impression of the ropeclimbing in Stockholm definetely made me curiouse to see more of it. The routes at Svarttjärn (http://27crags.com/crags/svarttjarn) suites me better than any other ropeclimbs I have done, since they basically are boulders that you climb tied in to a rope.

True determination (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2013/09/true-determination.html)
27 September 2013, 10:36 am

For a couple of years now, I have followed my close friend Henrik Sennelöv through motivation mixed with frustration, while batteling with one of his big projects. Not only has it meant a physical challenge, but due to the problem being extremly sensitive to rain since water keeps pooring down it long after even the smallest shower, it has required incredible patience from Henrik. When forecasts has been looking promising, he has been in standby mode to go out as soon as weather has allowed. Allot of the times he has arrived at the crag only to discover the problem being impossible to try.

Thank's to a dry summer and autumn, Henrik has been able to try his project more frequently than before, and yesterday I recieved a text-message from him saying: "Finally sent it, on my last try before I had to leave for picking up the kids at daycare..." Congratulations Henrik on a great addition to the westcoast-bouldering!

Video - Whippin up the westcoast (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2013/10/video-whippin-up-westcoast.html)
31 October 2013, 6:31 am

I normally have a hard time making it out to the rocks during the summer months due to spending most of my time working. I try to stay in shape by training on my home wall, and look at the time as a yearly brake from pushing myself to send. However, at some occations I find my way to the crags nearby my home. This summer, I acctaully even made it up a couple of problems I've been wanting to do for a long time, along with repeating some old classics for the camera. Some of them ended up in this edit.

Featured problems:

Mon gôut 7B+ (http://gbo.crimp.se/ulorna/mon-go%C3%BBt/), Ulorna

Shelter 7B+ (http://gbo.crimp.se/tjorn/roadkill/shelter/), Tjörn

En världsomsegling under havet 7C (http://gbo.crimp.se/lyse-kyrka/en-varldsomsegling-under-havet/), Lyse kyrka (sec. ascent)

Z-sprickan 7B (http://gbo.crimp.se/haller/zsprickan/), Häller

Dogma 7A (http://gbo.crimp.se/haller/dogma/), Häller

The art of climbing (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-art-of-climbing.html)
13 November 2013, 8:09 am

I'm extremely proud to be a part of  The art of climbing - A three-week event that shows climbing as an artform, starting this Friday at Magnolia café, gallery & flowers (http://magnoliacafe.se/wordpress/), here in Stockholm.

(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-72dVK5eak6E/UoMkoqJmV2I/AAAAAAAAE4k/LM2e1XyL6BI/s1600/1380734_685685148111315_2092791637_n.jpg) (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-72dVK5eak6E/UoMkoqJmV2I/AAAAAAAAE4k/LM2e1XyL6BI/s1600/1380734_685685148111315_2092791637_n.jpg)

During the three weeks there are many exciting events planned, such as a slideshow by Erik Massih (http://sandgrenmassih.se/erikmassih/?page_id=1705), a live interview with Matilda Söderlund (http://matilda-soderlund.blogspot.se/), a musical performance by Continental Orchestra and on the 24th I will be showing my videos. Throughout the three weeks there will be a photo-exhibition in the gallery, displaying pictures from Jonas Paulsson, Linus Meyer (http://www.linusmeyer.com/) and Said Belhaj (http://www.said-belhaj.com/). If you can't make it to any of them, pop around at some other time for coffee and a look in the gallery. If you come bringing your apetite, I strongly recommend trying their lamb-burger. See you around!

These are some of many shots I took of the Legends only competition (http://www.klattercentret.se/svenska/kalender/legendsonly) which was held at K2 during the last weekend of November. An extremely well executed event that attracted many spectators, who I can only assume got just as inspired as I did from watching the boys climb.

Another finished chapter, time to write a new one (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2013/12/another-finished-chapter-time-to-write.html)
18 December 2013, 8:09 am

Combining studies with training is not as easy as I've been told. Before this semester at Berghs school of communication, I have not been sat in a school-bench since I graduated from upper secondary school in the spring of 2007. And I must say, going back being used to having climbing as my main focus in life, it's been hard to maintain my training. School-assignments has taken up most of my focus and the stress of constantly having something related to these to think about has drained me on lots of energy. It's actually not been until in the last couple of weeks when all assignments was handed in, that I've started feeling like myself again when going to the wall.

(http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3705/11415204904_940ff41d01_o.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/11415204904/)

(http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3699/11415169996_43c176cc5d_o.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/11415169996/)

(http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2861/11415170165_4c13277480_o.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/11415170165/)

However, in spite of this I have enjoyed my stay in Stockholm very much, climbing-wise also. Training at facilities like K2 (http://www.klattercentret.se/svenska/anlaggning/telefonplan), surrounded by incredibly many talented climbers has given me a whole new perspective of the Swedish climbing-scene. It has also helped me regain my joy for indoor climbing, which has been running pretty low in the last year or so. But lately I've been able to enjoy climbing in the gym just as much as going outdoors. All thanks to the atmospehere and the amount of new problems being put up every week by hard working routesetters. It´s beyond anything I've experienced before.

(http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5536/11115850333_b73a5826e1_o.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/11115850333/)One of my neighboors in Stockholm seemed to have a thing or two to learn about appartment-adapted pets. (Translation: Beware of camel).

I am not sure what I'll be doing after New years, but since school is over and I no longer have a place to stay in Stockholm, I have moved back to Uddevalla for the time being. I will be doing some work over the holidays and a couple of weeks into the new year. After that I'm free as a bird again and time will tell wheter I'll be back on the road travelling or in Stockholm training.

Title: Years go by
Post by: comPiler on December 31, 2013, 06:00:34 pm
Years go by (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2013/12/years-go-by.html)
31 December 2013, 1:19 pm

Since I started this blog in the autumn of 2007, I have made it a tradition to end every year with a review of the 365 days that past. For some reason however, I did not write this post last year and discovering this made me a bit sad. At the same time, I realize that these posts are something I compose for me more than for anyone else to read. It gives me so much pleasure to go back to the old entries and read about all the stuff I had forgotten about doing. All the people I've met, days I've spent moaning over bad weather or times I have been blissfull over having climbed a boulder (or in rare occations, a route).

So what is worth mentioning when looking back at 2013? There are of course a couple of moments that I remember particularly well. I would be stupid not to name Duel (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.se/2013/03/to-my-self-in-future.html), but to say that it's the single greatest moment would be an overexaggeration. I can think of at least a couple of experiences and achivements I am just as happy about. For example when sticking the last move of Big dragon (http://bleau.info/petit/1438.html), after having fallen off it on my two previous goes due to missing the jug. Both those tries I was confident I would do it. On my third go however, I felt tired and hesitated. I knew it was the last go I had in me that day, and if it wasn't for the very unexpected cheering on from a big Edinburgh-crew that had turned up on the parkinglot, while I was doing the lower moves, I would probably have failed it again. Another great day was the one on which I climbed Modulor assis (http://bleau.info/sablons/1641.html), le Tour du Babel (http://bleau.info/jouanne/12214.html) and the sitstart to it, psyched up by Haroun and Neil. Having Neil around with his camera, not only that day but on several other occations, led to me getting to be a part of his amazing film (http://www.outofsightthemovie.com/). Another highlight of 2013.

As you might understand when reading the lines above, most of the climbing I did on rock this year happened in the spring. Although Fontainebleau did not show off it's best side, it's still a  fact that it's where I came to do most sessions outdoors. After returning to Sweden, I have been traveling less than usual. I did two short weekend trips in April, which where only separated by a day back in Uddevalla. First to Kjugekull with the cheerful Cabrera/Tillman family (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.se/2013/05/short-notice-kjugekull-trip.html) followed by a weekend on Åland (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.se/2013/06/a-trip-ill-remember.html) with a big group of amazing people. Both of these are forming memories I will cherish as they remind me of what climbing is all about.

As usual I spent my summer working, but unlike before I treated myself to a week's vacation in the middle of it. This was not just so that I could be lazy, but for me to visit the annual Outdoor tradeshow (http://www.outdoor-show.com/) in Friedrichshafen for the first time. I was invited there by the boys from Revolution (http://www.revolutionclimbing.eu/INTRO.html) and I am very thankful that they wanted to have me there. Not only was it great to meet the team aswell as Clark, the founder of Pusher and Revolution, but being there also gave me a whole new perspective of the outdoor-industry. Not to mention meeting many new, aswell as old friends.

Cuerpo de hombre (http://gbo.crimp.se/haller/cuerpo-de-hombre/) 7C (http://gbo.crimp.se/haller/cuerpo-de-hombre/) in Häller. Photo: Jonas Paulsson (http://jonaspaulsson.se/).

I have been extremely fortunate to be supported by some very inspiring companies. With that I have also got do some very fun work. Towards the end of the summer I visited Lofoten in Norway with Tierra (http://tierra.se/), to modell for their next summer catalougue. I got to try out their entire collection for next year, while doing all kinds of crazy activities. Everything from hiking up mountains and running on the beaches in bad ass weather, to suiting up for having Bacalaou at a local restaurant in the evenings.

My work in front of the camera, did not end when leaving Lofoten. The day after I returned back home, my  friend Thomas Schermer (http://www.thomas-schermer.com/) who is working as a photographer, came to visit me. Together we  spent four days driving up and down the westcoast for him to  take photos of me climbing, resulting in many great shots.

If you would have asked me a year ago, predicting that I would spend a  semester studying is a very unlikely guess I would have  made. The thought first hit me in the early spring. I was sat in  Neil's gite in Font, unable to count the days I'd been forced to rest  due to poor weather. Tired of the situation, I applied to a one semester photo-course at the renowned Berghs school of communication in Stockholm. I did not believe for a second that I would get in, so when the acceptence letter turned up in July I was fascing quite a hard desicion to make. One part of me was much more keen on spending the money I was saving up working, that would all be eaten by the tuition fee, on a new trip. But since I could still remember the frustration I had felt when applying, I decided that I could always save up new money and go chasing for dry rock later.

When the summer had passed, it was time to make the move to the Swedish capital, to start a semester that came to be a busy time. At first I felt super-psyched on everything, especially going to the climbinggym. But as we where told by our teachers on our first day, there would not be much time for anything but school until the 12th of December when it was ending. Since photography is very subjective, there are no sure answers. Therefor I could put endless amounts of efforts in to each assignment and when it was time to hand them in, I would still not feel satisfied. Of course it pulled my focus away from climbing more than I could ever have imagined it would, and it put my  motivation to a hard test. The time however added to my photographical skills, which I hope will be noticeable in aswell the photos as films I will be making in the future.

Except for going to the Västervik bouldermeet (http://www.vastervikclimbing.se/news/international-boulder-meet-2013/), I did not go away for a single weekend only to climb during the autumn. I made a couple of day trips to areas around Stockholm and Uppsala, but due to the reasons I explain above, it was hard to get much out of it. After a while I realized this and decided to focus the time I could dispense on climbing, on training indoors. There is never enough time to keep up with all the things I wish to do and as I try finding a way trough life, there will be times when climbing can't always come first. I was fortunate however, to spend this time in a place like Stockholm, with all the great facilities and amount of motivated climbers that kept me wanting to go to the gyms.

Before rouding this off, I would like to put down a few lines of gratitude and appreciation. To Pierre Ropero and Erik Tjerneld at Tierra (http://tierra.se/), Musti and Ibo at Revolution (http://www.revolutionclimbing.eu/INTRO.html), Erik Massih at Five ten (http://fiveten.com/), Jarmo at Boulderkeskus (http://shop.boulderkeskus.com/en/) and Wioletta with LYO food (http://lyofood.com/lyofood-pl/web/index.php) for their amazing support. To all the amazing, new people I have been fortunate to get to know during the year aswell as to old friends I have been spending time with. For my friends who I did not manage to bump into even once during 2013, let's make sure that won't be the case of 2014.

Last but not least, to myself in the future - I hope this helped brighten up some of all the great memories that was created in the year 2013!

Happy new year!/DO

Video - Island fun (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/01/video-island-fun.html)

Now that school is no longer keeping me busy, I can start editing videos again. But in order to do so, I need material, which there isn't lots of since I haven't climbed much outdoors all autumn, let alone filmed. However, some of the footage Thomas and I gathered during his visit in August, did not fit in to the first video (https://vimeo.com/77958450) I made. Using that, I have put together this short with four problems from the Islands of Öckerö, outside Gothenburg.

The two songs in the video are by Andreas Åhlfeldt, who has produced music for many great climbing videos such as Progression and First ascent. Make sure to visit his site (http://andreasbeats.com/) and listen to his other great tunes.

Title: Boulderkeskus ISATIS
Post by: comPiler on February 18, 2014, 06:01:04 am
Boulderkeskus ISATIS (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/02/boulderkeskus-isatis.html)
18 February 2014, 5:53 am

First weekend of February, I visited Finland and Helsinki for the first time. A city that lived up to everything I ever it imagined it would be, in terms of grey, cold and snowy. What I did not expect however, where all the great indoor climbing-facilities there is to be found. I was invited by my two friends Henna and Jarmo to attend the opening of the latest addition, their new bouldering-gym Boulderkeskus Isatis (http://www.isatis.fi/fi/).

I had not been climbing since before Christmas due to finger injury, and that barely changed over the weekend. Not being able to climb so much, did however not really spoil my trip since I got to meet both old freinds aswell as new acquaintances. Also, since Jarmo is something of a child caught in a grown mans body and really appreciate toys, there where TONS of other things to keep me occupied. Such as pinball machines, videogames and a pooltable. Along with massages, aromatheraphy, yoga- and pilates-classes, that makes for a place where I could easily hang out not only on the days when I'm training. Although, the main reason to why I would be visting Isatis (http://www.isatis.fi/fi/) is still the crazy walls that Jarmo designed. The place offers a bit of everything in terms of wall-angles and shapes and from the looks of it, I think it's a great gym for training. Thanks again, Jarmo and Henna for having me!

Checking the results for the final.

Few climbers I've met are bursting with such passion and energy at the rocks,  as Said (http://www.said-belhaj.com/). Just the fact that he climbs more than hundred routes 8a and  above every year, I think speaks for itself. Last week, while paying  a short visit in his old hometown, he spent an afternoon at Hyltebergen  (http://27crags.com/crags/hylteberget)repeating  his training-circuit from back in the day. A bunch of sevens and a  couple of eights, in between sushi in the sun and dinner at his mom's  place, is a pace one can only dream of keeping up with.

From what I hear, weather in Font has been great this winter. Unlike last year when I was there, dragging my bad karma to the forrest. However, despite the fact that I did far from as much climbing as I would have wanted to, I still have'nt used all the footage I gathered during that time. While sat thinking back of last winter, I came to think of these bits of unused footage and decided to try making the most of (some of) them. Hope you enjoy what I did!

What does the Turkey say (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/04/what-does-t.html)
21 April 2014, 8:23 am

Since about a month back my life has been pretty sweet. I'm in Geyik bayiri, Turkey. Climbing off course, but also working in the kitchen at the Josito campsite (http://www.josito.de/) in return for food and accomondation.

Just before Chritsmas I injured my finger and due to this I did not climb at all until the beginning of February. When starting again, I could at first only do very easy moves on jugs and when two friends told me about going to Turkey to ropeclimb, they caught my interest. I thought of it as an opportunity to try something new since ropeclimbing should be more gentle on the finger.

(https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2897/13935361875_35ae42208c_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/13935361875)

Every other day I'm off from work and those I spend desperately trying  to learn how to get along with the limestone tufa's. So far I have not  been very succesfull. It's almost like doing a new sport too me as I  have not been doing much ropeclimbing before. At least not compared to  how much I have bouldered. Also it's my first time climbing on limestone  which sure takes some getting used to. At first I was super-frustrated  and felt completely lost on whatever climb I got on. Then I realized  that I had to change my approach towards it all. I lowered my ambitions,  started looking at every climb as training and now I'm trying to do as  many routes as I can, regardless of style or difficulty. It has made it  all much more enjoyable and I'm slowly adapting to the climbingstyle.

I'm planning to stick around for a while longer, before returning to  Sweden to spend my summer working as usual. I'm looking forward to keep  working on my endurance and that hopefully summer in Sweden will allow  for me to use it on the routes around where I live.

Title: Turkey and back
Post by: comPiler on June 01, 2014, 01:00:27 pm
Turkey and back (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/06/turkey-and-back.html)
1 June 2014, 8:51 am

After 2.5 months of working on my tan in sunny Turkey, it  feels a bit sad to be back in Sweden knowing that all those hard hours  of lying in the sun will probably be bleached away by the end of the  summer. Partly since Swedish summer does not often provide much sun but also since I will be spending most of the time indoors,  working as usual. Even though the stay in Turkey did not rob me on more  than a couple of pennies since I was fortunate to be able to work at  the campsite, it still is time to fill up the piggy bank.

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5154/14332166433_1ef8fea11d_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/14332166433)

Apart from working in the Jo.si.to (http://www.josito.de/) kitchen and on my sun tan, I have also been climbing a lot. The total  amount of routes I climbed equals to about three times as many as I had  totally done in the past since I started climbing. From this I have learnt a lot  and come to enjoy sportclimbing more than ever before. Being on a  trip where weather did not keep me from climbing for a change, has  sure been amazing. At times I was almost wishing for rain so that I  could rest. At the same time, the few times when it was raining it was  of course also cloudy. That made it possible to climb in the areas  where it got too hot on the days when the skies where clear and I could not miss out on opportunities like that.

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5071/14125315288_c8419bd99c_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/14125315288)

Towards the end I became more and more tired. The  only reason that I actually made it to the crag the last days was the  thought of not knowing when I would get a chance to try the awesome  routes again. With a lot of will power compensating for my lack of  energy, I also made it up a some routes during these days. A couple  of them where routes I had been waiting for to dry up ever since I  arrived.

(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3667/14288821136_20341e99da_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/14288821136)Flame of fame 8a, Trebenna. Photo: Mikael Ylinen.

To sum it all up, I'm very happy with the stay and would  like to thank Mike and Victor for letting me tag along on their trip.  Also I want to thank the entire Jo.si.to-crew for their hospitality aswell  as all the nice people that I've been fortunate to meet and hang out with during the time. I  hope it won't be to long until I see your faces again!

Right now I'm in the midst of a weeks rest. Both my  body and mind needs to recover before I can start trying all the routes I  have not climbed here on the Swedish west coast. I'm intrigued to see how  climbing on granite will feel after 3 months of moving on limestone.

Never before have I met a people so excited to have their photo taken. Most of the times when I pull out my camera in front of someone they turn the other way as fast as they can. Not in Turkey though. There where actually times when people came up to me and begged to be photographed. When I tried explaining that I could not pull a photo out of my camera like it was a polaroid, they still insisted. They did not care about the finished product but where only keen on being in front of a camera.

Citdibi (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/06/citdibi.html)
13 June 2014, 5:00 am

I don't think I've ever visited a more stunning climbing area than Citdibi. A crag under development, located about a forty minute drive from Geyikbay?r?. When approaching the wall it looks huge and as you reach the middle sector you will discover that the foot of the wall actually is about 30 meters bellow what you first think is ground level. Thus you will be adding these meters of climbing to the already 70 meter high limestone ocean.

It was inspiring to watch Tobi spotting lines and working on opening new routes. Seing how much time and effort he put's in to each new route, I can't even begin to imagine how many hours he has put in to open over 500 climbs in Geyikbay?r?.

The by far easiest way to move around Geyik Bayiri, if you don't have a vehicle and are not keen on walking, is simply to stand on the side of the road holding out your thumb. It won't require much patient to get picked up, as long as you are not too picky with the state of the ride.

Finding supplies (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/06/finding-supplies.html)
22 June 2014, 9:00 am

Since there are no proper grocery stores close to Geyik Bayiri except for in Antalya, the best way to get supplies is by visiting the weekly market that is held every Sunday in the neighboring village, Akdamlar. A great site to buy for example vegetables or dried fruits and nuts to incredibly low prices (at least compared to what I'm used to).

Showing how it's done (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/06/showing-how-its-done.html)

Sander and Victor sure showed me what being psyched is when working Showdown. One day, after having climbed since just after breakfast, they came in to the bar around dinnertime and placed an order for a large plate of fries. At this point I was sure their climbing day was done and did therefor not believe my eyes when looking out the window ten minutes later. The fries was apparently just an "in between goes-snack" since they kept trying the route until dark.

Next day that they got on it, they both cruised it and where surprised  over how much easier the moves felt than last time. I can't say I was as surprised, having seen how wasted they where on their last tries the day before.

Flame of fame (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/06/flame-of-fame.html)

Trebenna west hosts several good routes. The perhaps best two of the ones I´ve climbed are Raki on the rocks and Flame of fame. Two routes similar to each other in many ways. Both share the same start leading up to a middle anchor at the bottom of an overhang. From there it's possible to climb either straight up to do Raki on the rocks, or turn slightly to the right as I've done in the picture below.

(https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2918/14328702782_22baa8225a_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/14328702782)Flame of fame 8a. Photo: Mikael Ylinen.

Regardless of which way you choose, you will be in for steep climbing on good holds, leading up to a crux just before, or at the lip of the overhang. Hard routes to take down for someone with bad endurance like myself.

All the hard training Tom and William  had put in during the winter paid off all ready on their first  day on rock this season. Stoked after just having reached new levels by  sending Rabies (http://27crags.com/crags/fjallbo-utby/routes/rabies-36682), their first ever 7a, they jump straight on Dynamo (http://27crags.com/crags/fjallbo-utby/routes/dynamo-66966) to see if 7a+ was also within reach. Which off course it was, but just not on that very same day...

Title: Unexpected turns in life
Post by: comPiler on October 20, 2014, 01:00:36 pm
Unexpected turns in life (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/10/unexpected-turns-in-life.html)
20 October 2014, 8:00 am

I do not believe in either luck or faith. I used to think that for every adversity one has to suffer, there is something good coming to compensate for it. This theory is, as many others, easy to turn in to reality with a little help from an imaginative mind. However, from experience I have become aware that life isn't that simple. There are no certainties, no made out patterns to be followed and least of all, there is no such thing as justice. I should know. Comparing mine to many life stories I've heard, I've been incredibly fortunate growing up. I always had people close to me. Family and friends that wants nothing but my best and to who I can always turn in hard times. My parents especially, who has given their lives for me and my brother. I guess that is easy to think of as a certainty as it's something every parent is expected to do for their children, but it's not always how it goes.

"The world changes every day, but sometimes "change" means it won't ever be the same".

Swedish poet, Alf Henriksson has written a piece out of which I pulled the sentence above. I don't know how much justice my poor translation is giving his wisdom, but I hope you get the point. It's incredible how much one event can affect the life of you or others. It's also astonishing how fast one can be content with the turn of events. I have realized how easy it is to adapt to a reality, but also to be blinded by own concerns. While walking around moaning over an injured finger, I thought this year took off in a terrible way. Little did I know. Comparing issues however, won't reduce concerns. An individuals worries may seem nonsensical to the world, but they are still troublesome to the person they fall upon. I think it is good to be aware of this, but also knowing that even when you are tempted to think that life is as hard as can possibly be, you can't ever be sure...

Although I've stopped believing in the theory I speak of above, perhaps I have come to look at things in a different way. I have been proven that even in the most difficult times, if just seeing things from a slighty altered perspective, light might still fall on the good forces in life. I know I will never be able to make up for all the love and support me, my Mom and Brother has recieved lately. There are no words to explain my appreciation, but trust me when I say that I will never forget. So rather than putting down endless lines, trying to explain how thankful I am, I will keep it simple and hope you believe me when I say, that all my heart is behind these two – Thank you!

During my time in Turkey I was fortunet to get to meet Duygu Yarsur. A person that not only is extremely friendly and fun to hang out with at the  crag, but also an incredibly talented climber (and a master at baking  cakes). She gave me more than one technique lesson for climbing on  limestone. The perhaps biggest epiphany was seeing her using kneebars.  The first route I climbed with beta from her was Turkish airlines in Citdibi. I think I used about half of the kneebars she recommended and still my knee's where blue the next day.

The Gymfejden final - A post by Björn Pohl (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/11/the-gymfejden-final-post-by-bjorn-pohl.html)
24 November 2014, 7:36 pm

Since the dawn of time, by which I mean the last decade or so, the Stockholm climbing gyms have been in a state of cold war. Maybe not very cold and not exactly a war either, but still. There has been some kind of...rivalry I suppose.

So, anyway, the gyms want to prove that anyone who make the decision to train at their particular gym end up better, stronger and generally more attractive than those going to the other walls. Needless to say, the other gyms don't necessarily agree. This year, to solve the matter they came up with the idea for "Gymfejden" (in English "The feud of the gyms"), a competition running for six weeks, where the climbers were to venture in to enemy territory, i.e different walls, which each hosted 20 competition problems.

Those brave enough were given a scorecard on which do scribble down their daring deeds and when the dust had settled. only six climbers from each gym remained for the final battle. This event was held last Friday at Klättercentret Telefonplan (http://www.klattercentret.se/start/telefonplan/) a.k.a K2.

Each team had ten minutes to get as many team members, up as many of the six final problems as possible. Team K2 used the advantage of being at their home court and climbed their way to victory. The remaining four gyms were all given 2nd spot, because as we all know, it's all about winning anyway...

Title: La sportiva legends only 2014

La sportiva legends only 2014 (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/12/la-sportiva-legends-only-2014.html)
7 December 2014, 4:07 pm

This weekend, for the second year, I was invited to take photos at the annual La Sportiva Legends only competition at Klättercentret here in Stockholm. It was great to see for myself that, just as people has been telling me, this is an event that gets better for each year, even though it's hard to anticipate.

This is a word that seems to have spread, as people were travelling from all over Europe, to catch this years competition live. Daniel Woods, Jimmy Webb, Alexander Megos, Jan Hojer, Adam Ondra and Jernej Kruder formed a line-up hard to beat and I guess no one had to feel worried or ashamed about not making the podium.

Theroutesetting-team led by Robert Rundin, Joakim Berglund and Stefan Eklund, withassistance from Sean McColl and Kilian Fischhuber, really did an amazing job setting the boulders (http://www.epictv.com/media/podcast/how-to-route-set-for-the-worlds-best-boulderers-%7C-epictv-climbing-daily-ep-393/600886). They managed to put up five awesome looking climbs in different styles and difficulty. Adam Ondra showed no mercy and pretty much walked up every boulder, which I can assure you were all incredibly, f***ing hard.

The only person rivalling Adam in terms of performance was David Höglund, a.k.a Daddy Legend, behind the DJ booth. He really brought the atmosphere to another level with his tunes. Those of you who were not there and did not catch the competition over the livestream, can still watch it here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwtdmaYI7WQ&feature=youtu.be), or check out a shorter summary by Epic TV (http://www.epictv.com/media/podcast/ondra-and-megos-dominate-at-la-sportiva-legends-only-2014-%7C-epictv-climbing-daily-ep-394/600892).

After the comp finished the competitiors, audience and everyone involved in the event, went across the street to Tell Us bar for the legendary afterparty. David brought his discs and kept spinning them until early next morning. Just as last year I ended up emptying my camera battery and filling up my memory card. People has been asking me if I got any good shots. My respons to them has been, that if not at least a couple of pictures turnes out decent, I will sell my camera. I'm still not sure, but for the moment I guess I can consider keeping it for at least another year, in case I would happen to be invited for a third try.

2014 (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2014/12/2014.html)
30 December 2014, 7:19 pm

Yet another year goes by. A year that I'd quite like to be erased from the history of time. So much happened, that I could never have predicted. Things that still is affecting me and forever will. Of course it's not been all bad. The time in Turkey was very stimulating. Not only in terms of climbing, but more than that on a personal level. The day I stepped on the flight back home, I felt more in peace than I think I've been in years. But still, I would trade every good experience if some things would never have happened.

Normally, this annual summary turns in to something of a long winded  story. But as I have not travelled, or even climbed as much as in the  last couple of years, I don't feel I can put much more to words then the  lines above. So to save my self from even having to try,  I will fall  back on the frequently used expression, that a picture says more than a  thousand words.

For a couple of days more, I will be hanging out with my family back home. After that, I'm really looking forward to going back to Stockholm. I think, for the first time ever, I found an everyday life that I could acctually see my self being happy with for more than a couple of months. I'll see what 2015 has got to offer, but for now I feel Stockholm is the place for me to be.

Best new year wishes to all of you!

As I did not post all the photos I took at the La Sporiva legends only in November, I though I could use them in this time of having nothing better to share. A desperate try to fill out the void that is the issue of not having climbed much in the past months.

A few shots from a beautiful afternoon last week spent bouldering at Källbergahygget (http://27crags.com/crags/hygget-innan-kallberga) outside Uppsala. We have been blessed with amazing weather in the last two weeks and after a long dark winter, every second spent in the sun recharges you with energy. One can only wish for not having the face another raincloud until the autumn...

2013 Fontainebleau outtakes (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/05/2013-fontainebleau-outtakes.html)
1 May 2015, 11:42 am

Working with routesetting I often find myself thinking back on outdoor  climbs I've been on with hopes of finding inspiration for what I'm about  to set. The other day I was using this "tool" perhaps a bit too much. I  started missing Font more than I've done in a long time. And as I think about this second home of mine pretty much every day, missing it more means missing it A LOT! When I got back home that night I immediately went on my computer and started looking at Font videos.  After a while I ended up seeing some old clips of mine and then stumbled  over some footage that I had not used. Since I had nothing better to do I  put some of them together to make the short below.

Gävle on a Sunday afternoon (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/05/gavle-on-sunday-afternoon.html)
13 May 2015, 7:45 pm

Last Sunday, Fredrik Sydstrand phoned me up and asked if I was keen on going out. As I have been injured all winter and just started climbing again, I've been sticking to climbing indoors. I feel that the risk of tearing my finger is smaller on plastic than on rock. At first I explained this to "Sydde" and headed for the gym. But as I stepped trough the door at Klättercentret, from the bright beautiful day it was, I realized that I could not miss out on a day like that. I turned around before I even got past the reception and as I did, I phoned Fredrik up. An hour later we where heading north, to Oppala in the city of Gävle. One of countless areas in connection to Stocholm that I have not yet visited (although the two hour drive makes it a bit to far to call it a Stockholm crag).

(https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7721/17337221590_125cc2ae26_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/17337221590)

I was a bit worried that I would regret my decision, but fortunetely things turned out the other way around. Climbing on excellent rock in perfect conditions made me even more keen on training then I was before. I was reminded of why I'm spending many hours ever week rehabilitating, climbing circuits, doing core exercises and stretching. Regardless of the fact that Sydde had  completely trashed himself working out the beta for The art of war (http://27crags.com/crags/oppala/routes/the-art-of-war),  he could not stay away from giving the neighbooring-problem a shot before calling it a day. I  thought he would'nt be able to move, but to my big surprise he  managed to dig out just enough energy (or perhaps it should rather be  called will power) to climb trough the crux on the short 7C+. Unfortunetely, that was as  far as what ever it was moving him upwards, lasted. He fell of on the last move before the juggy toput.

I quite like editing, but not climbing or filming outdoors much in the last year, I have to dig deeper and deeper into my archives to find footage that I can play around with. In a dusty folder with stuff gathered during my trip to Fontainebleau in the spring of 2012, I found two problems filmed by Sandstones media (http://www.sandstonesmedia.com/) which had not been used in any video. Not having much to do the other night, I put them together to make this short...

Featured problems:

Västervik weekend (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/09/vastervik-weekend.html)

Visiting Västervik is allways a pleasure. Not only is there lot's of good climbing, but the suroundings are so nice that just being in the beautiful nature could be worth the trip alone. Over the last weekend I left Stockholm to hang out with my German friends who rented a cabin just south of Västervik. The stay turned out great and I got to spend more time on rock than I've done in total in the last year. As you might understand I was pretty keen and ended up destroying myself already on the first day, repeating old climbs on Fruberget. Apart from that we ended up climbing only in sectors where I had no been. It was interesting to explore some new parts of the area and spot problems that I would like to come back and try when I'm finally recovered from injuries.

USA (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/10/usa.html)

After many years of dreaming about climbing in the states, I'm finally here! Not sure how to put down in words how excited I am. Psyched on the climbing off course, but also on exploring the country, meeting new people, picking up tips and tricks from master Said (http://www.said-belhaj.com/),  eating burritos, camping, spotting bears and moutain lions and much, much more.

We arrived here in Boulder CO last night and will be hanging out around here for about one and a half weeks, before driving west through Utah, Idaho and Oregon. I will try to post as much as I can from along the way, but since we'll be spending quite a lot of time living in a tent out in the desert, our internet access will be limited. A part of the trip I'm actually looking forward to quite a bit...

A learning experience (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/10/a-learning-experience.html)
19 October 2015, 9:50 pm

Time flies here in the US. Tomorrow it has already been a week since we arrived and each day has so far been an adventure. The first couple of days we where hanging out around Boulder, climbing in Cleer creak canyon (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/clear-creek-canyon/105744243) and Eldorado canyon (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/eldorado-canyon-sp/105744246). It was good to get the body going a bit and shake some of the jetlag.

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/624/21691423863_0a8a4fd9d2_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/21691423863/in/datetaken-public/) Said catching up with Christian Griffith on a walk between the Verve (http://www.verveclimbing.com/) office and Christians house in Eldorado canyon.

Said has been introducing me to many interesting people. Supermotivated climbers who are dedicating their whole lifes to the rocks. For some, this devotion has turned them in to legends as they have been part of making the sport (or whatever it is) what it is today. Meeting these guy's and being at the crags around here, is definetely giving me some perspective of things. Seing how strong people are is mindblowing to say the least. It's also really fun to watch Said climb. I'm sorry to say that I believe the Swedish climbing community is not aware of what an incredible athlete we got in this man.

Over the weekend we payed our first visit to Rifle (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/rifle-mountain-park/105744310). A hotspot for sportclimbing in the US. The two days climbing there was humbling for sure. I'd heard a lot about this place, about the very tricky style of climbing which makes it close to impossible to climb well without beta. Due to this I off course tried to lower my expectations, but I guess no matter how hard you try not to put preasure on your self, you will still allways have some hopes on doing well. These hopes of mine however, was brutaly crushed within the first day. But I am still really looking forward to returning as I feel this is a place where I can develop a lot as a climber. We'll be going back in a day or two, after having enjoyed some much needed rest back here in Boulder.

Moving on (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/10/moving-on.html)
23 October 2015, 4:36 pm

After hanging out in Boulder for a couple of days, we drove back to Rifle on wednesday morning. Weather here has not been great so far, but we still climbed loads. I guess one of the upsides with travelling with a person like Said, is that there is almost nothing that can keep him from going climbing. That attitude makes it easier for me to stay motivated. Even on days like yesterday, when rain was pooring down pretty much all day, we kept climbing from early morning until dark. Today however, we are both pretty beat up and will use this rainy day to recover so that we are hopefully fit when good weather rolls in tomorrow.

Title: The eighth day
Post by: comPiler on October 27, 2015, 07:00:21 pm
The eighth day (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/10/the-eighth-day.html)
27 October 2015, 4:44 pm

Last weekend on our first trip to Rifle, we went over to check out the "Project wall". A large overhanging sector hosting numerous hard routes. To the right of the wall there is an orange face which is divided by a beautiful grey streak. A route called The eighth day comes out of an overhang to the right, traverses on to the grey streak and follows it to the top of the wall. 45 meters of perfect limestone. Immediately when I saw it I thought, "thats a climb I would love to do before moving on from here". At that time not knowing what it was, I turned to the person closest to me and asked - "I haven't climbed it my self, but people say it's a real adventure" said Jen, as in Jen and Andrew Bisharat who was kind enough to host us at their home while we where in Rifle.

I started trying The eighth day this past Saturday, a week after having spotted it and with only two more days to climb in Rifle this trip. I would have liked to do some more milage before getting on such a long route, but with the amount of time we had left before moving on west, I had no choice if I wanted to give myself a proper shot at doing it. So I spent that afternoon hangdogging it a couple of times and also gave it one burn from the ground. But after working the route I was totally emptied out, or "helt blank" as my travelling partner Said would have said. I did not even pass the lower crux.

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/664/21900882253_aeb9c31d09_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/21900882253/in/datetaken-public/)

After a good night sleep I returned on Sunday morning. Along with doing a couple of easier routes, I warmed up by dogging the route past the upper crux once more. I felt much better than the day before, but still doubted I would be able to keep it together all the way. Half an hour later it was time for my first real readpoint attempt. I passed the lower crux which I had thought of as perhaps being the main obstacle for me. Standing at the rest after having climbed out the overhang and traversed on to the streak, the nervousity I felt all morning was blown away. As I set off, laybacking my way towards the upper crux, I enjoyed every move. Without really thinking about it, I found myself at the rest past the crux. However, the route was not finished there. I still had another 15 meters of climbing a head of me, which I had only done once yesterday and by now forgotten how to climb, putting all my focus on the moves leading up to there. It's such a different experience to climb routes that are this long compared to bouldering which I've been mostly doing in the past. Physically off course, but mentally as well. To become better at it I have to practice my abilities to switch between relaxing at resting points and moving without hesitating.

Said has an admireable approach towards climbing. One that you don't see very often and that I believe many climbers could learn from. My main goal on the rest of this trip is to work on my attitude to why I go climbing and what is important. I think one of the reasons why I made it to the anchors of The Eighth day are some of the talks Said and I had in the past days. I owe him for that, as well as for his patience with me while trying this route. Thank's buddy, on to the next one(s)!

Trick or treat (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/11/trick-or-treat.html)
2 November 2015, 2:44 pm

After a couple of days climbing in Maple Canyon on the most funky rock I've ever seen, we moved on to Salt Lake City on Thursday night. Our plan was to only stay during our restday and then move on towards Smith Rocks. But when we where invited to spend Halloween with Sam Ellias and friends, plans changed.

It was fun to be parts of this holiday in its cradle. During the day we went bouldering in Little Cottonwood Canyon (LCC) with Ronnie Jenkins and Lauren Callaway. They gave us the grand tour of the area and pointed us towards all the best climb. As sun set over SLC we drove back down from the mountains and headed to Sam's place for burgers and off course, Halloween candy. The house was filled with people and we ate, drank and talked all night.

Yesterday morning we jumped back in our very small rental car, perhaps the smallest thing on four wheels in the entire US, and continued west. On the way we did a quick stop in Idaho city of rocks. It was nice to break up the long drive with some climbing and to see yet another great crag.

While Said has been driving I've been scanning the Smith Rocks guidebook and I can already say that the two weeks we are planning to stay there wont be enough.

Title: Smith Rock
Post by: comPiler on November 10, 2015, 07:01:00 am
Smith Rock (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/11/smith-rock.html)
10 November 2015, 4:15 am

Since a bit more than a week, we are in Smith Rock, Oregon. So far we've managed to climb six full days, which is just about as much as my skin has been able to take, perhaps a bit to much acually. The rock here is sharp, but a side from that this place is incredible in many ways. The area in it self is beautiful, the climbing is awesome and so far, weather has been good pretty much the whole time (except for at one point when a halestorm came in just as I was doing a burn on a route a was trying).

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/645/22493731327_b93c46a496_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/22493731327/in/datetaken-public/)

It's hard to know where to start with so many good routes to try. I would love to spend some time on some (for me) slightly harder climbs, at the same time as there are tons of moderate stuff that I also want to do. I was hoping that I would be able to do a bit better here than I have in the areas we been to before on this trip, seing how the style of climbing here should suite me really well. But the last year of injuries, laziness and being undisciplined seems to haunt me here also. Still, it's good to be here as it gives me even more motivation than I had before we went on this trip, to keep climbing and get back to (and beyond) where I was a couple of years ago.

Which ones to go for I have not decided, but it really doesn't  matter that much as all of them are good and fun to climb.

Said just do(es) it (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/11/said-just-does-it.html)

I really admire Said's drive and motivation. During our time here in Smith he's climbed so many routes. Regardless of the difficulty, he walks up to whatever he finds appealing and most of the times, does it in a couple of goes. He is by no means chasing numbers. In Smith he's rather been chasing classics. A route that he's been talking about ever since we left Sweden some weeks ago, is "Just do it" on The Monkeyface. It might be the best line in Smith and also happens to be that hardest. The route was put up by Jean-Baptiste Tribout back 1992 and has an iconic status among the gems of the area. Over the last almost two weeks, we made the heinous walk over the hill a couple of times for him to try the route. Each time, he dogged up it once. No more. He's been saying that he wants to save his skin for the redpoint attempt. Only to walk back over the hill to climb a couple of "easy" classics.

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/616/22353515274_12a399d4bf_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/22353515274/in/datetaken-public/)

Today he met up with an old friend that offered to come belay him on the route. I was glad not to have to fill my legs with lactic acid and stay on the route I was working and get my forearms pumped instead. But when Said came back with a smile on his face, I wished I'd went along to witness an amazing achivement!

Title: Back to Boulder

Back to Boulder (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/11/back-to-boulder.html)
21 November 2015, 5:32 pm

So came the day when it was time to move on from Smith Rock (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/smith-rock/105788989). I would have loved to stay longer, but as we had two weeks of good weather that over our last couple of days in the area turned pretty grim, I felt alright leaving.

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5669/22883526450_296fdca956_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/22883526450/in/datetaken-public/)Said working Scarface (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/scarface/105891749), one of many classic Smith testpieces. Seing how much climbing has been moving forward in the last years, it's amazing that Scott Franklin put up this hard route already back in 1987.

In the end I'm quite happy with the techy sandstone-routes I managed to get up. It's by no means anything to brag about, but I think I did close to the best I could considering the shape I'm in. I climbed some of the routes I'd been wanting to get on, including some ultra classics like Chain reaction (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/chain-reaction/105789917), Churning in the wake (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/churning-in-the-wake/105876765), Kings of rap (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/kings-of-rap/105877262) and Darkness at noon (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/darkness-at-noon/106070861). The perhaps best of them was Darkness at noon (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/darkness-at-noon/106070861). 30 meters sustained, technical climbing up a beautiful vertical to slightly overhanging wall, makes for one of my all time favorites. Smith is packed with quality climbs like that, in varried difficulties. Many of them I would love to get on and I hope to be back soon, as psyched but much stronger.

Since we left Smith on monday night we passed trough Salt lake city to re-visit some friends and then headed to Moab (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/moab-area/105716711) for the second time this trip. Down there we got a bit of climbing in at Potach road (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/potash-road/105716778) and also spent a day squeezing our selfs (litterly spoken) up chimneys to the top of Castleton tower (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/kor-ingalls-route/105717289). A very unigue and frightening experience as I have no trust in my own abilties placing gear.

As from last night we are back in Boulder where the trip began six weeks ago. I can't believe we only have a few more days before flying home. If I could I would cancel my ticket and stay here climbing until I'd get borred with it, which would probably be never. But every trip comes to an end and to see something good about that, it means I can start planning the next one.

To soon to leave (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/11/to-soon-to-leave.html)
25 November 2015, 7:05 pm

"It's not like you wasted your time" was Said's respons to my complaints over how fast six weeks go by. I guess it's true as time seems to accelerate along with how much I enjoy myself. I can't think of any trip I made where I experienced as much and met so many new friends. Not once have I been bored or felt that I had to come up with something to do. The few times when we sat still for a change, I actually relished, which is rather unusual for being me.

The last couple of days in Boulder were nice and kinda relaxed. We did some climbing in Cleer creak canyon (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/clear-creek-canyon/105744243) (Primowall (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/primo-wall/105744720) is AWESOME) and bouldered in Flagstaff (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/flagstaff/105744225). Most of the time however were spent hanging out with friends, enjoying just being around.

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/630/22675934264_a6f7cb97dd_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/22675934264/in/datetaken-public/)Christian Griffith repeating Undercling traverse (https://www.mountainproject.com/v/undercling-traverse/105749225) at Flagstaff. A problem that he climbed "perhaps about a 1000 times", to use his own words.

Normaly when a trip comes to an end I'm pretty tired and can see some bright sides about being back home. This time is no different in terms of me being tired, but not of travelling, so I could just as well have taken some rest in Boulder and then kept going. But I guess I will have to get used to the thought of climbing in minus degrees around Stockholm for a while, which is also quite nice. Only not as nice as climbing in Rifle or Smith.

Oh, take me back (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/12/oh-take-me-back.html)

I used to quite like everyday life in Stockholm, but since I got back from the US I can't seem to get used to waking up early, being indoors all day and having a schedule to adapt to. Guess I'm lucky to at least have a job that I like and awesome people to work with, otherwise I would probably have sold all my belongings and jet the f**k out of here.

I think he/ she's conflating being on holiday with life in another country here. It's not like the US is some fantasyland where no one has a schedule or anything!

Who writes this blog anyway? Doesn't seem to be anyone who posts on here as they're Swedish and there are never any comments on this thread.

2015 (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2015/12/2015.html)
31 December 2015, 10:58 am

Another 365 days goes by and so it's time for me to put down some thoughts from the year. I almost forgot this little tradition of mine this time, as I did not reflect over the fact that a whole year already passed. Anyways, 2015 has been good. I enjoy everyday life in Stockholm, working as a routesetter. The possibilities  there is for training is a major reason to why I really like it. It's been a great asset having all the well-maintained gyms around when trying to recover from the quiet severe finger injury I suffered last autumn.

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5697/21673221356_9aec18d32d_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/21673221356/in/datetaken-public/) In September I spent a weekend climbing in Västervik (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.se/2015/09/vastervik-weekend.html) with my friends from Germany.  I spent most of the year climbing indoors, the first half focusing mainly on rehabilitating. I have come a long way from where I was a year ago, although there still is a long way to go. Carlos (http://blodsvettokrita.blogspot.se/) has given me great support and for that I'm extremely thankful. Without him I would probably still be injured.

The highlight of the year was off course the trip to the US with Said. There where many great experiences in cool places, and altough I climbed like shit, I still managed to drag my ass up some really awesome routes.

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5760/23903533986_f5da2763a1_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/23903533986/in/datetaken-public/)

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5628/23847116881_cb0b1d7955_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/23847116881/in/datetaken-public/)

I've put down some goals for myself for next year. It's been a while since I had those so it's about time, and I'm really looking forward to working towards achieving them. I'm hoping to travel a bit more, maybe go back across the Atlantic. But I also want to do more climbing around Stockholm and Uppsala (on rock that is). The few times I made it out since I moved there, I always spotted climbs that I really want to get on.

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5630/23301388984_ec36a75aec_o.jpg) (https://www.flickr.com/photos/88248519@N05/23301388984/in/datetaken-public/)Standing on top of Castleton tower was one of many great experiences from the autumn adventure in the US.

I always have a hard time dealing with how fast time is  moving and I have to be careful not to put too much presure on myself to  make things happen instantly. I think that having a strong will is agood  quality, but focused in the wrong way it can be rather destructive. I'm  constantly trying to be better at deciding where to focus my efforts to  benefit from them, instead of letting my obstinacy make me counterproductive. A year ago I was actually not really sure if I wanted  to do as much climbing any more. I could not enjoy it as my approach  since several years, being way to focused on performance, had taken all  the fun out of it. After getting that perspective and realizing that  things had to change if I wanted to keep climbing, I started making some  changes. This has by no means been easy, but seing how I seem to enjoy  climbing more and more again, there is no doubts that I'm on the right  track.

I was there to set boulders for Pasila invitational (Finish boulder league final) (http://boulderliiga.fi/) together with Tonde Katiyo,  Rustam  Gelmanov and local setters Olli Antikainen, Anssi Venho and Marko Siivinen. It was a very good experience in many ways. I learned a lot working with these guys and gathered tons of inspiration for future work. Title: Morocco

Morocco (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2016/06/morocco.html)
11 June 2016, 8:42 am

I've spent the past two weeks in Morocco with my friends at Röjk superwear (http://rojksuperwear.com/). There was me and a group of six amazing people that went travelling across the country to gather photos and videos to show Röjk's next year's summer collection. Between riding camels in the Sahara, exploring old ruins in Ouarazazate, haggling at the local markets and chilling by the ocean in Essoueira, we also managed to fit one day of climbing in Todra gorge. A crag I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time.

I don't know if we were lucky or if local climber and author of a “guidebook” to the area, Hassan Mouhajir, is always around the corner. Regardless, he was the first person we bumped into when entering a coffeehouse in the village Tigui, at the entrance to the gorge. He sold me a topo that looks like no other and then showed us to a sector where we could climb in the prevailing heat. Although it was way out of season, I was really stoked to be in the beautiful canyon. Huge, red limestone cliffs are shooting up towards the sky on both sides of a winding road that goes along the river through the gorge. There are more than 600 routes, so obviously I only got to see a glimpse of what the area has to offer.

In the meantime, I strongly suggest you check out Rickards film from Röjk’s photoshoot in Indonesia last autumn.

I've uploaded more photos from the trip to Morocco (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.de/2016/06/morocco.html). Although I didn't spend as much time behind the camera as in front of Matti's (http://www.rapila.se/dtdrha0dqovxvrwd8c5o0j3n0i12v2) and Richard's (http://rickardcroy.wix.com/rickard-croy-media) sharp lenses, I still managed to get some shots of my own. For anyone keen on checking them out, follow this link (https://flic.kr/s/aHskC7HjD6) or click on any of the photos below.

Title: Frankenjura

Frankenjura (http://bouldersgate.blogspot.com/2016/07/frankenjura.html)
21 July 2016, 8:23 pm

I'm back in Sweden after a couple of weeks in Germany where me and my  friend Erik Massih stayed and climbed in Frankenjura. It was my first  time in this renowned area and it was truly inspiring to check out some  milstones in the history of climbing. It is mindblowing to think of how  far a head in the evolution of the sport pioneers like Wolfgang Güllich was when climbing routes like Action direct and Wallstreet. I  did unfortunetely not get a chance to take photos of these particular  climbs, but I hope you will appreciate the once I actually took.
