Just in case anyone feels the need to get anything off their chests...

T'was a long time ago...
The night before...

Too long ago to care? Oh well - let the revisionists have their way and give the man a medal.

Have I missed something?

3800 new routes?
-
I'm aware of the (like Michael Caine Movies!) just wondered why this had been posted now?

Sorry. Posted this having got annoyed with Mick Ryan singing Gary's praises on UKC and Facebook in an "Appreciation thread" saying he deserved an OBE for his services to climbing. On what basis? He got there first on a lot of good routes that would have been done anyway (frequently by chipping/excessive gardening with a hammer) and opened up a lot of quarries that wouldn't have been climbed on otherwise. More = better? Ends justify means? Time a great healer ?
-
Ah OK. What was that Ken Wilson comment about his new routes being "a ceaseless tide of.."
-
Mick Ryan talking bollocks? Well there's a first time for everything I suppose.
-
I love that guy.
-
Surely someone with Mick's politically correct sensibilities wouldn't be able to miss such a glaring oversight. This could turn into a major scandal for the powers that be at UKYoureallwrongandimright.com. You know, one with "gate" on the end of it and everything.
:worms:

This is the sort of thing that can bring down an evil empire.
Someone singing Gary's praises may well be guilty of promoting misogyny by proxy and "Gibsongate" could be the beginning of the end for the self appointed "guardian of female climbers rights not to be called fit or suchlike on the internet".
-
Any climber that can climb new routes in various parts for the country on the same day has a rare gift
-
Once met the man at one of his quarry creations and he basically asked us money for the bolts there and then, I wouldnt have been suprised at that point if he got out a chip and pin. I mentioned the Peak bolt fund but at this he did the impossible and just got grumpier. self inflicted chip on shoulder.

Are you insane ??? I have it on good authority that "Gary is funny, full of self-depreciating humour and a great conversationalist. He's great to be around"

Funny how you mention that word twice in one posting.

Mmmmmm...chips. A speciality at Pete Livesey's cafe

Have you ever seen the two in the same room??????
maybe its an uber troll that Mick Gibson/ Gary Ryan has been working on for years.
Having seen the piece of rock that was bolted beneath the bridge just before the embankment its a hilarious one
-
Mick Ryan in "Posting a lot of hot air to promote self / UKC" shocker :o  :whatever:
Okay Gary's done a load of new routes. A few of them have been classics around the country, some of them have been genuinely useful additions to Peak low/mid-grade sport, some of them have been pointless bollox. End of story??
OT: Someone needs to read the history of the Merionydd guide (and South West and Avon and Wye Valley) and write an article about Martin Crocker...
-
someone needs a burger.......
-
I wonder how many of gary gibsons 3800 new routes he has actually climbed ...
-
I wonder how many of his quarry routes still exist...
-
....and is there a correlation between the two??
BTW FBSF, my post was expressing boredom at the UKC topic, not at this thread....which I'm sure is more interesting ;)
