I've restored the database to our most recent backup.
Posts up until 03:00 on 27th August have been restored.
This really shouldn't have happened - the hosting company supposedly has RAID in place to prevent this so fuck knows what happened at their end.
I download backups every week or so to my computers for this eventuality. Unfortunately I hadn't taken one this weekend due to being otherwise occupied or we'd have had another weeks worth of posts backed up. Sod's law...

Weird that RAIDs not been of any use, perhaps they had a power surge that fried the drives, who knows.

Please insect overlord make this not happen again. I can handle it when the BBC website is broken, but this is just too painful, I didn't know that bits could just fall off and never come back :'(

Hehe, kinda fitting really, it's all quite embarrassing getting so much fuss for a....err...number.
However if someone could wipe out the -ve karma that "Dude" character keeps giving me randomly, that would be appreciated.

Turns out the hosting co could have been making daily backups for a fairly small extra fee ... that's now implemented.

Could be worse fatdoc ..... I was chatting to aLICErOBERTSfANkLUB last night and he reckons he's lost at least two ..... Mind you he is a bit prone to exaggerating when he's :pissed:

Lots of us lost one or two. Fiend on the other hand lost about 15 plus all the positive comments about his recovery / 8a ascent. I reckon "Dude" was behind the crash.
