Title: What time does that come into shade/sun?
Post by: Will Hunt on May 08, 2018, 12:51:02 pm
Public service announcement. Hopefully of use to those not in the know. Over the hot hot bank holiday weekend there were a couple of people asking on social media about what time a particular route or problem came into the shade.

Ask ye no more! Just head to suncalc.net and let the wonder of technology do the rest. Its handy because the movement of the sun (or, rather, the Earth. But you know what I mean) changes through the year - so the timings will be different depending on when you're going to the crag.

I've been using The Photographer's ephemeris for years. It's probably a bit less user friendly but quite a bit more powerful.

E.g. on the link below you should be able to see that I've used the secondary pin to see what time the sun will rise over the edge and illuminate Brad Pit - in case you're thinking of cycling out for an early morning hit.

TL:DR = about 9am. Buenos dias.

Does it tell you what pair of trainers would be optimum to lap Brad Pitt in at a given azimuth JB?  ;)

Dead cheap ( a fuck all or so) for Android, iOS, slightly less so.
