YBR125
Looking for advice on helmet/gloves/jacket/pants too.
Saw McGuinness Honda at a bike show last January, beautiful machine. They had cleverly left it uncleaned, so it was full of splashed mosquitos, grass and oil. Marvel. The hyper-reinforced swingarm was a work of art.My McGuinness claim to fame is last year the night before the senior race I was welding up and modifying his damaged radiator. No radiator, no race. We got it fixed and he went on to win BOOM!!
YBR looks perfect for what I want initially - cheap, good mpg and won't kill me.I've got a YBR, nice bike, comfy, easy to ride, reliable and simple. There's a reason every riding school in the world seems to use them as the go to learner. Probably about to upgrade to a Hornet shortly (and I have plans for customisation...)
I'm pretty sure our Crossfit loving Mark S's father or grandfather in law has won one of the TT races. Now that's a mans sport!
Rear Wheel :o
What a beast!!
Practice week is here. A few days ago I repaired Michael Rutgers fuel tank and today it was John McGuiness's turn for some fuel tank mods.
This is his superbike sans seat and fuel tank:
https://flic.kr/p/HE6NcK
I'll get you some more photos over the coming week Nibs.
Great welding stories Nik. I bet it's brilliant doing that and seeing your work win a race!It certainly is. Although I recognise my input is negligible and it's more a case of "only option" rather than "best option" when these bikes come through the door...

(https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7283/26810343494_7029e7ef5d_c.jpg)Anyone know who this is? Bubba on his trusty FZR, outside my place. Again, about 92. Brings back some great memories! Hope that's OK Bubba ;D
Talking of which, I'd love another of these! Kawa KR1S. Bloody lovely little bike. Seem to be getting quite hard to find.Probably coz most of them self-destructed like mine kept trying to. Probably the nimblest bike I ever rode though.
I'm pretty sure our Crossfit loving Mark S's father or grandfather in law has won one of the TT races.
Can you post the pic of him please Ben as I don't know how do it.
It is my father in law. He raced there 75 and 76 .
He said in 75 he was in a race something like new comers and he said it was really foggy and people were going very slow so he kept giving it the right hand. Until everyone was going slow .turned out the race was stopped like he thought and said he would have got a podium.
76 he rode a tz750 for a lap.I asked him how quick did it go. No speedo so didn't know but guesses 180+ . Told me about going flat out on it tucked in and the front wheel came up. All he could see was sky . His answer to it was keep full throttle and hope it was pointing in the right direction. Lucky for him it was. Said he clipped a wall once and gave him a tank slapper but kept the throttle open.
He also did track racing and held the track record on the club circuit for a place I can't remember . He spoke about joey Dunlop and this aura of his name and said when he first met him he came over to race at a race he was in. Cadwell I think it was. Said he was a scruffy fucker with shit teeth. Dave beat him.
He raced against lots of big names and said lost a lot of mates
He still works on bikes and a few weeks ago I heard a two stroke at a bike garage near by . It sounded awesome. Then it was coming down the street. Dave was riding it in overalls and no helmet. This is right next to the police station in leek.
Him and another are building it for track racing .his mate will race it not him.
the following day they took it to morridge. A long straight ridge road near the roaches. Put it on a trailer and gave it a test. He blew it up and has to rebuild it.
I worked with a bloke who knew him as youngsters. He said on a bike no one was anywhere near as quick. Lots of people challenged him but no one could touch him. He still wired wrong now. Never a normal bloke in a million years
Wow! That's a long time ago - had a lot of fun on that FZR 600. I've still got those knee sliders somewhere, they had titanium bolts screwed into them which let out a spray of bright sparks when I was on my knee; great for general showing off and horrifying people you'd just passed on the way into a corner :devil-smiley:

Miss razzing over to Wales!Makes me shudder to think of what we used to get up to and away with tbh but it was certainly great fun!
I think it's being covered in itv4....
I think it's being covered in itv4....Sadly can't see it from Italy...

Mind these are probably all ten a penny in Italy aren't they Nibs?Ahahahah not exactly!

I'm not sure I'd still be in one piece if that VRF400 at Manhatten Motorcycles hadn't just been sold 5 mins before I turned up to buy it!!
You've got an open invitation for accommodation if you get here nibs :);D ;D   :beer2:

Manx grand prix in a couple of weeks :2thumbsup:
It also reminds me of an excellent short piece Bubba wrote many years ago, about razzing out into the Peak - which would be great to read again - something about clipping trees with your helmet to mark your turn in point IIRC.Christ, was that in Percy's fanzine thingy? Would love to see them again...

Just finished watching the MotoGP. The front tire of those who'd chosen the soft one at the end looked like it had been munched by a bunch of wild dogs.
Mental.

Iannone's front tire after being chewed by a passing T-Rex.
I think it's safe to big up Big Cal now! :dance1:Absolutely. Great decision to mount hard tire both front and rear. Paid off big time.
The devil is in the details.

"It's worth every single penny" - was this pre or post pound madness?
A 450k spend should come with an exclusion zone of approx 0.5k, you wouldn't want some numpty on their mobile getting anywhere near it.
Like that Nibs, very neat.Cheers Duma, glad you like it! There will also be custom made aluminium supports for the (custom made aluminium) front mudguard!
that'll be it I reckon.Ahahahahah! Yes, sure! I wouldn't be so sure about it!
Wiltshire was pretty fine today:Very fine. Very envious. I was stuck in fucking boiling, traffic jammed, stinky Florence.
Cheers Duma, glad you like it! There will also be custom made aluminium supports for the (custom made aluminium) front mudguard!Model plate.
Dammit! He's never been a crasher, what happened? Not sure but Honda are having a nightmare, McGuinness (almost certainly) out and the bike seemingly way of the pace. Its not looking like Martin will be getting his TT win this year...
4 - Triumph Street Triples. No offence Duma, I think these are lovely great bikes, but seriously I reckon every 3rd bike on the island right now is a street triple (ok an exageration, but there are LOTS of street triples)
Cheers for the update Nik, I was starting to wonder what had happened to you, the lack of pr0n on this thread was alarming!Lore, you managed to get that stream to work then. Broken my phone, and can't connect. Good updates on the Road Race website. Sounds like your bike would be just the sort of machinery needed. Can we have a shot of you on it please? That would be great :punk: .. Three down for good so far this year, which is always really sad. Gets harder to get my head around, as I get older. Interesting skill/risk ratio.
I've been following basically every race while at work, via TTLive and Manx Radio, brilliant so far.
Already planning for next year, definitely want to come over with my bike.
Now I only have to find out what's wrong with her. Surely some electrical issue.
I was at a party yesterday, and my dear friend Andrea offered me her old Guzzi 500 - if I can get it running.
:icon_beerchug:
On another note...
This looks promising!!!

;D
What was the cause of the retirement?
Sorry Sam :wavecry:
I did write a longer piece about the supersport (which I watched ;D) but then deleted it realising the coverage is on tonight... Didn't quite twig about my lap record comment, sorry.
I'll shut up now and stick to photos...
New record!!!
https://www.iomtt.com/news/2018/06/04/superstock-tt-press-report (https://www.iomtt.com/news/2018/06/04/superstock-tt-press-report)
But also another loss.
:(
Jodie Kidd adds a lot of height but not much besides (which is in many ways a great shame as she doubtless has motorsport 'racing' knowledge and could have worked really well and a female member of the presenting team is a good idea)
Didn't see last nights coverage so can't comment on that.
On a seperate note I suspect that Dean Harrison will be very glad that his gentlemanly letting Dunlop through to finish 'first' didn't cost him second place (which it very nearly did, I don't think he realised that the Hickman/Hillier battle for third had them both still on fliers). As had he dropped the place his tirade to the kawasaki big cheese on monday would have come back to haunt him... :)
Sorry Sam,
not having access to the coverage I always check the news and wrongly presume everyone else does so.

Found this site: https://easyview.eu/itv4/ to work reliably and painlessly so far with decent sd quality, no ads and no vpn required. I'm watching in France so might/should work for you?
Been enjoying the itv4 coverage but yeah, it's hard to avoid the results, especially for the races shown the next day.
I really want a motorbike.
Found this site: https://easyview.eu/itv4/Utterly brilliant! It worked fine and I just watched the coverage!
Spoiler AlertNSFW :
They sounded even better in the flesh ;DBloody hell!
No spoilers but...
Oh my days!! Cancel any plans you had tonight and watch ITV4...
Can we please have a start up/rev and walkaround? :thumbsup:https://youtu.be/ZWWJg04jK3I
Interesting to hear about your ancestry.Indeed!
Interesting to hear about your ancestry.Indeed!
I am very proud of my Sicilian origins, but doing some research on a website dedicated to Italian surnames I found out that my surname comes actually from... France!
Nowadays it's mostly common in the Gironda region in France, and it probably comes from the term "frustier" or "fruster" that meant "carpenter" or "woodworker".
Maybe it comes from the Normans that occupied Sicily ages ago.
We still have our family house in a small village called Capri Leone, in the hills above Capo d'Orlando.
Yoss ;) I love the graphic for the BMW.Brilliant stuff!!!
That's cool. I'll watch the trailer.
Edit: OMG fantastic stuff!
:2thumbsup:
Lore will explode ;)
Lore is very sad about it.
Alas, my plan to do an illustrated thing along vaguely similar lines has been stalled for about a year.

Hopefully this isn't a spoiler for everyone but yesterday Lee Johnston (a close personal friend of Nibs ;)) won his first TT in the supersport :2thumbsup:Ahahah yes it was really good to hear about the win!!! Good lad!!!

The Paton is a beautiful machine indeed. I'd love one.
I'm really happy that they managed to have all the races - although some of them in a shorter fashion - it seemed really impossibile at some point!!!
On a side note, I am extremely excited to announce that the one and only Master Welder Nik of this parish, has started building my new, custom made, aluminium seat unit.
8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
who rides a machine like this?
Hope everything is good where you are :2thumbsup:Yes Dave thanks, we can have a good quality of life now, and I can ride my motorcycle! Although with a dodgy knee...
"...mine just looks newer" ?
You cheeky bastard.
Well, the rear tyre is holding pressure, so that's a fix :2thumbsup:
Getting used to carrying minimal crag gear. Stoney - great session in Tom's last night, Matlock, Raven Tor early this morning.
This evening was perfect for one thing - getting my knee down again , which hasn't happened for 28 years ;D

(That's a plastic puck, which is Velcroed to the knees, so they slide rather than grab.)
Get. It.
Maybe it needs a Mediterranean climate and a bit of sun ;D

Ha ha, yes! .. although it might get sweaty, wearing all that rubber :P
Bike started fine, so going to head out on that, if the rain holds off :2thumbsup:
Let's put it this way: more time to plan a motorcycle trip over there...
:dance1:
I'd say the Yamaha TZ 250!
It's the year I was there with my girlfriend, I added Nik's place to the long list of UK friends' houses that I have invaded!
Good times.

Deliciousness
I haven't done much as of late, mainly because there's nothing left to modify except the engine, and I don't want to touch that. 70 bhp are more than enough for my riding likes and skills, plus, it's a bike that draws quite a lot of attention from policemen, so having a stock engine is a strong point in my favour when I get stopped...
I think there are some people doing quite cool stuff with weird and wonderful dirt bikes.Ahah Yoss you must be kidding there! You mentioned some of the most famous customizers in the world! If Liam is nearly as good as to have them as an inspiration, he should do it for a living!
I kind of agree about MH actually - he's a sculptor stuck in a motorcycle customiser's body...;D ;D ;D
I realise that you're the greasy-handed man Lore and we're just some punters looking at pictures of cool stuff thinking that they'd be fun to have in the garage.
This is the parking lot girl that I think we're all hoping to meet btw...

You should keep things minimal.Like, a sweater, some tape, tin foil helmet, and 150 mph.
Sweet!
I haven’t ridden a bike in forever but do like popping by this thread. A mate of mine has just rebuilt a vintage Bultaco
https://www.instagram.com/p/CRCmzavnOs9/?utm_medium=copy_link
4 stroke envy. Bouldering with wheels
Ha funny, my dad had a that Bultaco Sherpa when i was a kid, 84-90 sort of time. Used to take it up to Conisborough quarry and i'd accompany him on my bmx. Also had a Maico 400 that he was scared of.
Thinking of trying the North coast 500. Is it worth it?Hey I reckon it must be like 400 miles from Sheffield just to get to the start of the NC500!
Fantastic!!!
Thanks Dave!!!
On a side note, I bought new front calipers for my SV. 4 pistons Nissin from a CBR 600 F.
Grinning like a mofo.
P.s. Milky Quayle is the ultimate TT junkie!
The guy who me and Nibs pit crewed for at the Manx Grand Prix a couple of years ago is one of the owners of Oliver’s Mount.Great experience Nik!!! Terrifying at times.
Chris says hi etc…
Liamhutch89.
That's fantastic. Great to hear you had a good break with the weather.
Bubba always raved about Oulton. I did a lot at places like Cadwell - worth looking out for when the National circuit is open.
You learn so much on the track, with the room to make some mistakes, that you just can't easily get away with on the road.
Would be good to drop you a line sometime.

Still buzzing from the track day last week, I've gone ahead and booked the trip to Spain for 4 days on track in February at Andalucia:
https://eurotracks.nolimitstrackdays.com/euro-tracks/andalucia.aspx
Cannot wait!
Now for mods:
tank grips - already purchased from stompgrips
suspension setup - done, stock springs were ok for me
quick action throttle - done, bought an R6 throttle tube for 20 quid (I think it's 1/6 turn instead of the standard ZX6R 1/4 turn)
Supercorsa tyres - will put these on fresh before I go
steering damper - I think I'll need to bite the bullet on this and go for an ohlins at around 330 quid.
rearsets - half tempted to go for ebay/amazon specials on these. Bad idea?
Nice to have items that aren't necessary so probably won't buy:
quickshifter
shorty levers
And things I should do but probably won't:
aftermarket fairings to save my OEM's
clip ons for easy replacement
remove passenger pegs and seat - I loathe having to spend nearly 50 quid for an exhaust hanger in place of the passenger pegs.
https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/Racers/crighton_cr700w.html
:o
I'd never dare, personally.
On a side note, I'd love to see MotoGP ban all electronics.
Cool scenes there Dave, I'm a bit envious, it's been raining lots here as of late...
I usually put the 98 octane fuel in both bikes, but can't sincerely notice any difference while riding...
The TZR should be ready in a few days, hopefully! I can't wait to have her back home and running properly!
On a side note, I found a nice CNC machined lower clamp for the SV on internet...
:devangel:
I thing I'm probably going on track next week, weather permitting, so I'll try to make some more exciting videos...
I confess, I've not watched your video properly yet Lore, but the weather is looking fabulous there.Ahah there's not much to watch in my video Dave apart from the sun and the landscape!
Warmer here too:

2 weeks until we meet again in Andalucia!Mofo. That hurt a bit.
