Title: Strictly come blow my head off now please
Post by: Bobling on November 06, 2009, 07:02:14 pm
Is anyone else subjected to this crap every weekend?  :boohoo:

Any recomended coping techniques?

Here's mine for starters: http://www.ninjakiwi.com/Games/Action/Play/SAS-Zombie-Assault-2.html (http://www.ninjakiwi.com/Games/Action/Play/SAS-Zombie-Assault-2.html)

Two coping methods...

Gin And Pron are worthy alternatives though not sure the publication below is really the best around - I'm more of a Razzle man myself (penny a page!)

You know you're onto a winner with an url like that

Thankfully by a curious twist of fate I have a silver lining that I'm not in the same house as a tv and an Strictly / X-factor addicted female (in fact every bloody female I know is addicted to strictly, it's a disgrace). But I'll still go and shoot zombies, just in case...

Brucie is definitely past his sell by date.

Yeah though to give him credit he does keep soldiering on, I just don't want to be forced to watch it every weekend, and most weeknights if the wife gets control of iplayer and we watch the horror that is "It Takes Two".

Strictly is 'bearable' if pre-recorded then fastforwarded through all the dross (all of it?) so its only about 45 min long. X factor is unbearable in any format.

Who the f*ck are Shedward anyway?

But. It gets worse.

Sadly yes.

Last night I witnessed...

Not the beginning of Xmas commercials already (which is dire)

But a trailer for 'I'm a celebrity get me out of here'

FFS. I said to the fairer half - isnt there any respite? to which she replied - Oh, and theres Dancing on Ice coming up soon...

 :wall:

Post by: Bobling on November 07, 2009, 09:38:18 am
The double whammy when you get to the end of strictly and X factor is still going on and you can hop over to it to watch the end!

Dancing on Ice?  I don't think we have been in the country when this has been on so I am not sure if it is going to appear on the radar.    Here's hoping.  Thinking back "McCloud's Daughters" was positively enjoyable in comparison.

there are 2 more solutions to this problem;

1 - grow a pair, reclaim the trousers and ban it outright along with soap's

2 - Take a hammer to all the TV's in the house

Or just go online and read/post on UKB, watch decent content on iPlayer/4OD/etc./etc./etc.
Title: Re: Strictly come blow my head off now please
Post by: Jim on November 07, 2009, 09:25:56 pm
or combine both idea's and watch only the good content through your media player on the TV  ;D

This, coupled with programmes like 'The Execution of Gary Glitter' (Mon 9th Nov, 9pm, Channel 4, I kid you not!) is exactly the reason why we no longer have a TV. Long live iPlayer and 4OD - and thanks very much licence fee people for refunding me my money. Long live books and newspapers. I'm free at last, and life is good!

I really tried to promote this option when we got back to the UK, somehow we ended up upgrdaing our shitty little 14 inch that we hardly watched for a huge 32 inch flat screen.   :-\

There's a simple solution.

Get rid of the television thus solving your 'strictly' problem plus allowing you out to the pub to watch the rugby.

I hate how every topical chat show is now just a platform to talk about Strictly Come Bloody Dancing.  There is no escape from it.  I was watching the Andrew Marr show on sunday morning.  They spent 5 minutes going over the papers and then straight to a live 20 min interview with Bruce Forsyth at home with all the usual bullshit questions..."So why do think it is such a popular show with universal appeal?".  I have no interest in professional dancing anyway, so why would I want to watch some really ugly fat people being dragged round the floor.  Just because they are a familiar face and a plucky underdog does not instill any sense of empathy or compassion towards them.  Stop trying to force feed me this shit.  Yeah I know I should burn my TV or throw it out but I'm addicted to Neighbours.

What he said. If I liked professional ballroom dancing I would watch professional ballroom dancers doing it. Not people who can't dance for shit trying to do it.. Especially not fat old female politicians.

Those of you still struggling with their partner's Strictly habit may be able to learn from my experience.

We now watch Strictly twice in a row.

"What The Fook!" I hear you cry.

Let me explain: watching it live, Mrs Starfish gets to fantasize about being Ola, Flavia, Natalie, Aliona etc. while I do anything she wants - bring wine and chocolate, massage feet etc.

Second time around I get to fantasize about her being Ola, Flavia, Natalie, Aliona etc. while she does anything I want.

Everyone's a winner

It's that time of year again.

This photo has nothing to do with Strikly, but I have written to the BBC suggesting that they could improve on the current format by learning from this work of art.

I'm being ground down.  This year I find myself quietly enjoying this.  What's changed? We had a baby and past 7 o'clock is now time to sit on the sofa enjoying down time with light entertainment, not be out there doing *something* more interesting.  Still agree with Lagers though  :goodidea:

I'm forced to watcch shat factor - the kids and wife have managed to turn it into some sort of communal activity. So tonight I thought I'd watch the boxing on the spare telly with a few beers. However our littlest is making too much noise to watch shat factor and is now watching ben and holly's little kingdom. Suddenly the 9 beers left in the fridge seems a very small number.. I couldn't take it and banished myself to the man cave with a glass of wine.

Whilst there I realised I could hook up a turntable and a mixer without compromising the space available on my work bench, I can finally start listening to all my old vinyl again  :clap2:

I then realised I'd lost the power lead for my mixer in one of the moves of the last few years

Still I'll get a new one and will soon be able to relive my youth from the comfort of my garage!

So, although it pains me greatly to say this, thanks Strictly.

Is Brucey still actually alive? I wondered if he's being preserved a la Kim Jong Il and what you see on telly is a hologram.

Recovering from surgery and finding myself watching Saturday evening tv for the first time in years, - 'I Love my Country'  :o  ..... just what the fuck is going on here!? The opening scenes remind me of the forced morning physical jerk scene from George Orwell's 1984.. and when did Gabby Logan morph from sports presenter into mad-eyed dance-fitness instructor?

Right we need to look into this:

Bake Off

Pros
Mel and Sue make me smile
Food pr0n
Only one hour
Weeknight

Cons
It's cr*p popcorn TV

Strickly
Pros
Arses and associated jiggling

Cons
Arses and associated jiggling
Brucie
That tall lady who wears improbable dresses and fawns over Brucie
The music, oh god the music.
The way the programme spans Saturday and Sunday casting its sinister shadow over the entire weekend for the whole of the first half of Winter
The cult of celebrity
Those awful filler dances and story pieces that are supposed to be amusing
It last for hours, and hours and hours.
The way up thread I said I was enjoying it one year, the self-loathing is hard to live with.

My conclusion - GBBO is not on even the same scale as the Great Satan of Saturday night TV that is Strictly.

Hmm. I've never seen the baking thing but surely the great Satan of weekend tv is Cunty Cowell's Circus of Doom.

Strictly is harmless fluff in comparison to what seems to have become "let's all laugh at the mentally deficient before building up the hopes of fragile kids who don't realise that there's only ever one winner and it's not any of them".

Toxic shite which aside from the above has a lot to answer for regarding the attitude that it's not hard work and improving yourself that's important, it's being on tv at any cost.

In some of the coverage about the 'changes' to BBC3 they mentioned 'The Voice' cost £22m.  :slap:
How much of that lines the pockets of the already multi-millionaire judges?
That's license fee payers money that could be funding more/the next Mighty Boosh.

Sad how they persevere with more series of expensive shit like than when the viewing figures from the first series were dire. Should have been axed. And fuck knows what happens to the "artists" who are unfortunate enought to win it. Kiss of death for a career, even more so than the X Factor.

Unfortunately the BBC is between a rock and another rock as they have to pander to the lowest common denominator for ratings to justify the licence fee and then get slagged off for producing mindless shite for morons (when that's what the majority want).

Overall I can definitely handle the rubbish (you don't have to watch it) for the sake of the quality stuff they produce (I'm happy to pay the licence fee for the radio alone).

This is scary though:

Especially when you consider that that wanker Mark Thompson was going to axe 6music which, if Obi's comment is right, costs about half as much as one shit TV programme.

(I realise they are 2012 figures but still)

I don't watch a lot of t.v. but was enraged by Newsnight (the new editor is a complete fukwit) having the closure of BBC3 as the lead item last night, after all its not as if there's anything newsworthy going on right now is it?

Personally I can't see why BBC seeks to compete with the commercial sector, it would be better if it left the sort of shit that they seem to show to ITV and started doing soemthing distinctive with a genuine public service aspect to it, but that would be white, middle class and elitist wouldn't it.

Anyway, I'm working late delaing with a client complaint, so get your fingers on the punter points as there may be some vitriol later (and bad typing too)

But BBC3 had it's fair share of mindless shite too; two pints of lager?
