MTU
September 29, 2008, 04:15:14 pm
Oh no not him again! I'm afraid so.

Replacement router is here from Netgear, Ubuntu laptop, Wired Desktop all have working internet connection.
Xbox 360 has an access point client configured which I can see is connected.
Trying to check network connections on the xbox 360 fails at MTU (min value of 1364 needed).

in cmd:
ping -f -l 1364 www.dslreports.com

fragments until I lower the MTU to 1330 which is too low, now this has never been a problem so far.

I've upgraded firmware and checked using another router where I don't get this fragmentation until a much higher value. Currently it's set on 1400 on the Netgear router.
Plus I've also tried directly wiring the Xbox to the router with no luck there.
Any clues?

All of this is going to make me bald.  :wall:

Any clues?

Buy a PS3

Is this the first time you've tried hooking the Xbox up to the network?  If its a problem when wired as well as wireless then its most likely to be the Xbox itself at fault.  Are there any upgrades to the firmware or anything similar that are available?

I've no idea really on this front I'm afraid, but its worth noting that MTU on 802.11 (not sure whether its b/g/n) is 2272 and wired ethernet is much lower at 1500 (according to Wikipedia).

no its always been connected previously, it's not an issue.

i seem to be able to use that ping command and get an MTU thats not fragmented of the min value.

Seriously though, it's not going to be the xbox is it after all the hassle thats gone beforehand.

Really don't know, could be the Plexus Access Point thing, but I'd have thought the fact that there is no improvement when you now connect the Xbox through a cable would rule that out.
