Been to Baslow and Gardoms loads over this month. Always felt utter velcro and not a single soul was seen at either crag, although Full Power was sporting some grim tick marks today from some ghostly boulderer.

Does anyone climb outside any more?   :-\

Nah.

Almost as sacred as the Calling itself is the embarrassing premature callings by amateurs. We thank you for sacrificing your dignity to the cause.

At the risk of asking a silly question - am I right in assuming that the responsibility still sits with our resident tortoise?

I can't recall whether, lime-caller style the duties have been outsourced to someone else...

It's on.

Answered my own question. And if last year is anything to go by he's still happily bouncing the zs off the inside of his box.

17 degrees after sunset at Edinburgh today. More chance of getting sunburn than a sick send.

My point isn't that the call should be made. Rather that the call itself is meaningless; the conditions are out there and have been for a while, one must simply seek and grasp the opportunities when they arrive.

You mean:

Opportunistic grit is still possible but a mass calling seems early just now.

:agree: Always confuses me when normal trad climbing’s mentioned in this thread- the call usually marks the end of when you can expect to go out and comfortably onsight grit trad all day- unless I’m totally mistaken it marks the onset of reliable conditions for bouldering and the properly hard stuff.

As I’ve been reincarnated as a VDiff bumbly I’m dreading it. :look:

Meaningless 😱😱😱😱😱😱

What next? That Halloween and Bonfire night are pointless?

That the font grading system is qualitative?? 😱😱😱😱😱😱

My god man. If everyone felt like that we’d be using V grades and wear Scarpas.

I’m still a lime remoaner - not time for BrexGrit yet...

Just because someone managed to find half decent connies by doing a lie down start in the shadows and having a mate waft the air hopefully to generate a breeze means nothing. The call doesn't mean that the odd bit of good connies have arrived. It means that your hand freezes to your nose when you try to wipe away the snot dribbling out, and your spotters pray for you to top out so they can finally fucking leave and get somewhere warm.  Do they not teach this in school anymore???

I’ve been watching extensive swathes of CBeebies over the last two years  and never seen it mentioned once. I think there is a genuine opportunity to educate pre-schoolers.
