I too am troubled by this call. The call is normally followed by a great convergence on the grit crags with wall-to-wall connies. Instead it's warm and wet and looks like it will remain so until at least Friday. Has the tortoise bolted too early? Should this have been saved for a Friday with a cool, dry weekend ahead?

Today it's cold and dry but with wet imminent. I wish I could have got out this morning!

Thanks for the nomination Mocho, truly touched.

Have to agree yesterday was the best nick we have had so far but the shit weather is back with a vengeance today. What a fickle heifer she is!

Like I said, I didn't expect him to show, but there he was. Forecasts are just that.

As much as I approve of BB's admonishments, I do think it is a particularly difficult call this year. Partly due to the weather being particularly shittingly bollox.

If the calling was easy we wouldn't need this whole rigmarole. I feel the show pony is distracted, he needs to have a long think about where his priorities lie. All I heard off him today was 35 degree this, 45 degree that, discussions on bolt on hold suppliers and how he found climbing in horizontal roofs easy. Definitely more the talk of the Lime caller.

Next you'll be telling us he's building it in his cellar, not a garage like any self respecting scrittle groper.

I have plotted the date of the calling for each year. The Y axis represents the days elapsed since the 14th September (i.e larger numbers are later). Can somebody with access to the relevant software determine whether this represents a statistically significant trend?
TomTom, you'll be an utter shoe in for an Ig Nobel if you take this data, analyse it, and submit it as serious evidence to the IPCC.

can you do the same for the lime calling (plotted as a julian day is best IIRC)?

I'm not one for counting gritty chickens before their eggs hatch but Saturday is looking promising.

I ran a simple least squares regression on the data in Matlab, and the results suggest that the trend is not significant. The R^2 value is pretty low and the p value is higher than 0.05, which is usually the cut off for statistically significant results, although this is obviously based on limited data.

I am concerned that andy_e's optimism will skew JamieG's analysis

if Dense says something to balance it, I'll be less concerned

What was the estimated coefficient and its standard error?

The R2 isn't that bad really (in my opinion, I often see adjusted R2 <= 0.2).

He's too busy doing important work lining up his Terminator dvd cases - first chronologically, then by colour.

Hi slackline. The estimated coefficient was 4.536 for the slope with 95% confidence intervals of -0.139 to 9.211. Hope that helps.

The call this year is fickle indeed. As one must in this situation, I have sacrificed my flesh to the gods to allow safe passage of the gritstone winds, the sub zero temps and the flash attempts.

We just have to wait for Johnny to read what the entrails say. May this offering bring you all a prosperous winter crushing on the rock of the gods.

Does completing a limestone problem count during GMT when the Calling has been made.

I felt a disturbance in the force whilst on the A38 passing Derby. I looked at the temperature and it was 5 degrees. Looked out the window and it was mix of still white cloud and washed out blue and thought "today is a grit day"
