How have we got round to Halloween with such balmy temperatures? If the tortoise does not emerge soon then who will there be to mate with the triple headed robin and produce the once and future scrittle-clutcher?

It was close to calling connies at Burbshabbage Westerly yesterday.. but t'rock was not cool enough - and oddly glassy... we're a way from frosty morning velcro lovelyness...

That darned jetstream is keeping the grit terrapin away from the scrittle announcementisation spectacle..

Three of the five signs... it's not often October is out before he's up and about.

I only got 6 ripe tomatoes from our vine yesterday and the leaves are starting to fall off without assistance from children throwing stuff at it

Autumn is coming

My fingers are starting to suffer from an anxiety inducing degree of numbness.  The calling of the grit is imminent - it usually coincides with me giving up hope of climbing outdoors until Spring!

Early start this morning... Knute before dawn. We ran, the sun rose. Rainbows kicked from the dew, frost in the hollows. It's time!

I knew it. First ski tracks down in Cirgorms this weekend, is that one of the signs then?

Chris, Chris...you should know by now - the true signs are known to the Caller and the Caller alone...to divulge them would be to diminish his powers and consign him to a life stuck in his box underneath A Bigger Splash at Rubicon.

The start to the grit season was to be at the only crag where constant showers existed whilst all around enjoyed primo crushing conditions. Good choice.

It was erring into Grit season today... in the sun non - in the shade oui...

I think the tortoise had his head half way out (or half in).

Looking at SCIENCE no wonder its been taking a while to call the grit - apparently its been the warmest October on record...

A new month.

Ty does Smiling.

Snow on the mountains and frost on the ground.

Sub-zero temps forecast at night later in the week.

A timely call made through the proper channels (heed that, Dobegg)

There is much faith in the veracity of the caller.

Does the purgatory between the end of lime season and start of grit have a name? October?

I can see a good theme developing for a future UKB T shirt...

A monochrome idealised image of Wills 'tortoise bursting through' picture - with
"Its Grit Time!!" above/underneath it....

Get to it photoshop people!!
