I know y'all like to parade your atheism but this is a Tinkerbell problem we've got and I don't see much grounds for optimism tbh.

Could have gone in grit or lime calling thread - but this tweet has a great met office graphic describing the gopping winter and sunny spring this year:

Just because it has maps and stuff instead of a picture of a tortoise sticking it’s head out on top of Haydn’s van stuck in Spain 😛

No I mean the weather is.

I like graphs and charts. Almost as much as I'd to see meteorological changes explained by a talking tortoise surfing Hadyn's van....

One of Peak Lime's premier re-equippers and developers out of Chee Dale and at Stanage today. Some excuse about scrambling and childcare, but if that's not a sign of an imminent calling I don't know what is....

It's been a strange one. Dodging the Peak Park Rangers aside, I had four of the five three weeks back and was anticipating an early call. But the final one proved elusive, until dawn this morning. I think Red Roddy has been shielding tbh, he's getting on.

Does that mean we’re on?

Some fairly basic analysis - but still interesting - showing a reduction in frosty nights in November over the last 60 years (esp since 1990)

Interesting. Amazingly variable year to year. I wonder if that is partly why there are more ticks around too? Less hard frosts to see them off.

A frost is one of the signs. It used to be the easiest, now it's often the hardest.

I got a tick winter climbing on the Ben in March, so frosts seem not to affect them much. Deer numbers are the main factor afaik.

I did some "analysis" along these lines back in 2018

Also wet conditions.  They like it wet, and the best way to kill them if you think they're in your clothing is to stick it in the tumble dryer and desiccate them which actually kills them.  They can survive a wash apparently.
I guess more frequent damp summers over the years has increased their numbers.  No data to back this up mind, just a hunch.

Cheers Highrepute...

Thought I'd sum the seasons - its not a great trend... close to horizontal trend lines tend to mean f*ck all... Doubt its significant, but there is a trend. Moving average (chart below) is maybe better...

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IiJWsBA1tnLvbXW91PkLO9chGInJZqac-oZYG2h9aXs/edit?usp=sharing

(edit - not a criticism if it comes across as that. More just me musing about data and trend lines!)
