A northerly at Earl in autumn is always going to give you good condies, but I think we are a way off full tortoise time yet.

Yep, there was definitely frost in Burley last week. Rather nippy!

Warming up for the weekend... might be a quick turnaround for the turtle.

Actually looking pretty decent and cool over the weekend after a warmish end to the week. Next week looking mega on the long term (which obviously isn’t worth much). And there were lime chuffers last weekend taking about trying to get one last weekend of routes...

It's on the way. But not quite yet. Too warm at Earl yesterday.

By the way, is it still JB with the responsibility?

Fucking hell I saw loads of new posts about Earl etc and thought Yorkshire's Ganglealope Random Grade Generator had taken on itself to attempt a call. Thank god there are some voices of reason involved.

I'm on 3 out of 5. As ever, be vigilant for the quail-headed crow.

Is the bracken even down yet? We've not had a proper hard frost yet. And this morning two wasps flew into our bathroom. They should surely be dead before the grit can be called?

Not had a hard frost? I've twice scraped thick ice off the car windows this week and that's down in the balmy south that's known as Northampton.

You must get up at midday Will.

I normally stay out of the pre-call bickering but thick ice:-\ This suggests that it hasn't been below 5oC in Northampton yet.

It's been quite pleasant on the eastern edges even after dark this last week. No sign of the sacred crow yet either.

Also in Northampton. I've had to wipe off a thin layer of mostly melted slush with the windscreen wipers once so far. I must leave too late (8.30am).

I was on the lime on Sunday. Took the down jacket out the car, then left out on the floor all day and climbed in a t-shirt.

Not that the Calling Of The Grit is going to do anyone in Northampton any favours...

Only an hour and a half/three quarters to the southern grit crags if you leave early.

One hour forty... if you leave early and don't stop for fuel 😀

Thick ice? That'd be because I live on the valley floor, on the water. The car is no more than a couple of feet higher than my boat and yeah, that means thick water ice at 6.45am on a foggy morning.
