Right I will make the effort to get up there soon. I would go on Thursday but the bloody missus has got the day off and wants to go to Appletreewick for lunch, how fecking frustrating is that >:(

Balm is going well, last week a couple of guys from newcastle detoured on their way to Almscliff to get some ;D
Greg, you getting on with it ok?

I assume it a "NO DOGS" venue, unless you take a shotgun and blast every flying creature in sight?

That's good about the balm.
Yeah it's a no dogs venue. The phesants etc are so tame you can pretty much walk up to them and execute, some sport. I pretty much stood on one on sunday and it flew into my face, scared the shit out of me.

You ever walked up to Great Wolfrey? Now there's a place with a LOT of game birds!! We walked up a path that had loads of grain on it and there were literally thousands of Partridge and Pheasants flying off in all directions for about a mile. Didn't think the bouldering was worth the walk in the end.

Great Wolfrey? ... Didn't think the bouldering was worth the walk in the end.
Shame to hear that - was hoping to go and check it out this season. Not worth it cos
a. the walk in is so bad (looks like a long slog over possibly heinous bog)?
b. the climbing is rubbish?
c. climbing is good but there's not much to go at?
I am up for a long heinous walk through bog but only if the venue is top banana!

Not much bouldering of great worth I thought. The routes looked good though. There are a great many better venues in Yorkshire with much shorter walk ins

Just had a quick look at the back of The Calf topo and found a couple of obvious errors

11. ● (7b)
(1,2)-5-6-(13,13)

13. ● (7b)
(1,2)-7-6-(13,13)

 think they mean 15 not 13 (or the pic is labeled wrong)

Whats with the millipedes on the crags around the Skipo area?! First visit to Rylstone (one of my fave Yorkie Grit crags) and the place was literally crawling with them.
Bonjoy, you got any tips on the Great Wolfrey. Am keen to get up there and see if theres any good quality new lines within my ability to go at. Or existing lines, whichever look better (talking trad by the way :ang:)

Steve, are there plans for any other eliminates (like the old Eggy face one, for example)?
I'm pleased you guys sorted out your topo lines for the new guide, I hated the angles.  One nice curve is so much better.

We will be adding some more eliminate topos (such as Eggy face) over the next couple of weeks. The full site will have the facility for you to add your own problems in the eliminate section.

Sounds good, nice one.

Maybe it should also include any eliminates at Whitestones too

I have also made a couple of changes to some of the link ups. Problem 22 links into problem 15 for the full 8a tick. Also problem 23 is more 7c+ when linked into problem 14.

Steve

I was picking over the topo hoping that I would be able to claim a lucky 7c retrospectively as a result of being an ex Ilkley local and spending rainy evenings after school on the back of the calf. Unfortunately not. I have done everything (I think) that is marked as 7b+ and under, but no 7c  :'(  this goes to show that the grades must be reasonably accurate and also that I am a natural born punter.

I didn't spot any glaringly obvious gaps, but I wasn't really looking for new lines (for a change). Hebden Ghyll is much closer to the road up that way, I dare say that might be worth checking for new possibilities.

How dare you, Sir! Where did you hear I was such a punter?!
I may not be able to set up a Z hoist in 10 seconds but I can do everything required in standard single pitch and multipitch environments and didnt have any problems at Gogarth, Skye, Arran etc. My rack is now extending into microwires and tricams.

Great Wolfrey would be bomb diggedy, especially as you have a car  :bounce:
