For those who don't know, Siena is Nibile's home town, so he's going to be there supporting the Istrice (giant porcupine) so if you know what's best for you, you will also support the Istrice!

saw this spectacle must have been ten years or so ago when I was still a teenager..
well I say saw, was in the middle of the square so saw bits of it but what an atmosphere
should be on one of those 50 things to do etc etc lists

must have been 10 years ago thinking about it cause it was world cup - being in Rome the night Italy win a football match is another mad experience....

anyway it's been as basic as it gets. you rage in an overtaking river of adrenaline, being mashed by an enormous crowd in which every single person just wants to do the same as you: getting to touch the palio. it's something you can't do rationally.

saturday night we started the celebrations for our july victory.
we chose "la belle epoque" as the subject: there was "le moulin rouge", bars with absinth, a biplane, and so on. i was dressed as shown below.
