Quality MTB video's
August 24, 2008, 09:41:02 pm
Since there wasn't a video thread in this sub section I thought I'd create one. I wanted to title it "non quality" but since Neil now has an HD camcorder and he filmed/edited all this, it's got to be quality! This is from an area near Ballancourt-sur-Essone in Fontainebleau, so bring your bikes next time you come to the forest! Enjoy.

Click on vimeo to watch it in a decent resolution!

Also, I want to thank again all the people who gave me advice when I wanted to buy this bike!

A recent article in the Guardian.  Initially discussing why Parisians don't wear helmets, but gets more factual towards the end.  Interesting point on the impact speed for which helmets are generally designed which is 12.5mph (anyone know any more about this?), and very interesting to see read the effect of wearing a wig on motorists behaviour (albeit anecdotal as opposed to SCIENCE).

Maybe Uncle just wanted to show off his spectacular hair do?

I have a 3" scar on my forehead from crashing into a gate on a road ( :furious:) bike.  I wasn't wearing a helmet.  Would a helmet have helped?  Probably not since the impact was on my forehead and wouldn't have been covered by a helmet other than a full facer.

Subsequenty I have crashed my mountain bike(s) several times, including two big nasty falls over cliffs.  Did a helmet help?  I don't think I would be writing this if I hadn't been wearing one.

The moral of the story is wear a helmet off ride and don't ride on the road  ;)

Go and buy one of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=16122 - £75 to save your life, and £35 crash replacement policy to replace said £75 helmet if you break it.  I'm on my second replacement having broken two in crashes.  Bargain.

Vimeo looks promising, flickr too small and youtube too short for  some of my files.  Guess I need to edit them before uploading...

a little vid i shot. 1st go with my 7d.

ps how do you embed a vid on here?

Depends on where its hosted, with YouTube/Google/Vimeo you just paste the URL of the page the video is hosted on.  This likely won't work as you're hosting on a cycle forum that has its own video hosting system, so the forum software (SMF, see links at bottom of page) won't know how to parse this page to get the URL of the acutal video (as oppossed to the page on which it is shown) and extract it out to embed within the forum.

You can find this out yourself by clicking on the "Embed" link and looking at the HTML for the URL that follows 'src=' which in this case is...

http://www.pinkbike.com/v/146522

..but the forum software still can't embed that, so you're best option if you really want to embed videos here would be to host them on YouTube/GoogleVideo/Vimeo.

full respect to the skills, and his global exposure over the last year.

whether it's dirt, trials, DH or FR.

if it aint got a rear mech... it aint a MTB

he  is... amazing... but the fact he uses a 26 inch wheel does not mean it's MTB.

which begs the question why a 26" wheel??? as far as I know this is not the best size wheel for this ( amazing) form of cycling?

Think the jury will always be out on bender, either balls out genius who defined 'freeride' mtb and took it to another level, or talent less fool with a suicidal disregard for his own well-being? If you see one of the early rampage comps where he bins a jump, snaps a chain but then has another go anyway and decks it from 30ft+ maybe the latter!!!

I think he rides 24" wheels.  I don't know but I guess it's his favoured size as a compromise between small-wheel-technicality and big-wheel-big-air-big-balls-lunacy.

I'm of the opinion that the bender sender videos from back in the day at rampage were the catalyst that the FR movement needed to get us here today.

that however does not mean he is  sane
