Maybe it's just because the Yorkshiregrit site is really good and additional publicity is not considered worth persuing
You could be right here as YG is an incredible site but ,as UTG pointed out, Jon runs the site on his own and all updates are up to him. This means that updates can take a while to go onto the site. Jon has put so much time and effort with the site but finds himself spending a lot of his free time (un paid of course) running it. It's a real labour of love!

So having a forum-based website where the users can share news is very useful.

I suppose the problem is that there aren't enough Yorkies representing the scene on this site for whatever reason. People are most interested in what is closest to them. As most people who use this site are from the peak then most interest is shown in that area.

UKB has never really been very on top of Yorkshire activity because the majority of people putting up probs in Yorkshire don't bother to post stuff about it here
People have tried but the very useful views stats and the lack of feedback suggests that many people don't bother to look or aren't that interested. I suppose this is what has put people off reporting Yorkshire news. To be honest I doubt it bothers most Yorkshire folk very much.

The other thing is I never hear news about Northumberland. Is that because there's not much going on there or they keep things quite?

Yes but the perfect site would be a mix of the 2. The thing I like about YG is the continuous cataloguing of the photos and route data which takes place. Sometimes it's all too easy to miss info on new problems etc because the info is embedded deep in a thread that has little to do with the problem in concern. With this in mind are their any plans in place to start some sort of repository for this sort of info within UKB?

when i want to find out about what's new in yorkshire i just go to yg.com. even if stuff was posted on here more i'd probably still go there to read more, or find out more about the crag it's at. yg.com is a great resource.

The Northumberland scene sounds to be very similar to the Yorkshire scene. In that there is quite a bit going on but not a lot of trumpets getting blown.

Going back to YG, it is the best news resource for us. Yes the updates can be slow, but they do get put up. You could  read the mags but they seam to crib their info from Jons site. I also think there are problems and particularly areas Jon chooses not to put on, such as ................... oops nearly gave it away then!

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you. It is the best resource for us by miles and I'd be a shell of a human without it! I think it's good that all info goes trough one person as they can give clear and concise information with no bullshit. Although people discuss things and offer help etc on YG it is nice to have a discussion webstite like this. We couldn't really have a debate like this on YG after all.

Forums are great for discussion and debate, but they take up time for moderation, that's probably one reason why there is not a forum on YG, either that or the fact that I suspect Jon finds forums to be quite tedious. after all I doubt if he's reading this.

Yeah, I don't think he'll ever put a forum on YG which I reckon is a good thing.

Ygrit.com is a superb site and Jon deserves much respect for all the effort he has put into building and maintaining it over the years. (I know how much time and energy it takes to run a simple news based site like NWB.com.; I can imagine that Jon's site must be a lot more work) However I do think it is unfair to jibe the mags (myself and Percy presumably) for cribbing info. I do look at Jon's site, but I also receive direct info from various activists (Jon will know this as we are sometimes cc'd into the same email). I've also given Jon news items for his site on occasion and always drop references to his site into my articles/columns.

Thinking about it, surely there are quite a few Yorkshire based folk who post on UKB? Webbo, Stubbs, UTG, Sypeland, Steve Dunning occasionally and now there is Tom P. Fashion Guru is ex Yorkshire and so am I, Johnny Brown, El Mocho. Before you know it, it'll be the fashionable thing to do.

I didn't mean to jibe the mags, although Climb certainly jibed Jons site last month. The mags, like the rest of us, use YG as a info/ news site, but like you say they also share info when they both get copies of e-mails. But I wonder if any of the mags donated to the site in order to help fund it?

However I think the "Donate" option has now gone :-\

Right, back to the tough task in hand - 115 problems from 3 to 8b at Almscliff which I hope is one of Jims best two.
It's basically a 7+8 of the cliff combined with the easier historical lines. I would appreciate any other details peeps know, and any comments. It's an Excel file - work in progress, and just a tiny proportion of the list for Yorkshire as a whole:

Why not, there are some excellent and very hard 6b's out there. One of the best problems I did at Font this year was 6b Traveaux Forces,  http://new.ukclimbing.com/logbook/c.php?i=67280

It is indeed a great problem.  There was a bit of discussion about it on UKB earlier in the year I think.

Fine effort UTG!

Off the top of my head I'd make the following comments:

Si's Arete 93 or 94 (we were checking stuff for the guide at the time)
Patta's Arete 94 (I pointed this out in passing to a visiting Patta, saying that I fancied a pop at it - 30 seconds later he was stood on top, the bastard!)
Steve's Wall - this was Steve Rhodes - I did 2nd ascent about a day later - think this 94?
I wouldn't credit me with the Below the decks thing - I think Steve Rhodes showed it to me first. Not sure if he was the first either?
I think John Dunne did the Wall of Horrors lefthand - he was the first person I saw do it. FA probably early 90s.
I think The Descent Route was JP. Around 93 or 94.

I've got an old diary from this period - I'll dig it out and see if I can confirm dates.
