I'ne not made one but have used a few. To be honest your better off buying one, as most of the people who I know made there own ended up doing anyway.

Saw a good one in Spain with car-jump-starter-style clips gaffa taped to a big rod, they seemed to work pretty well.

Seen a few matching that description down Cheedale, looked like some sort of fishing pole with a bull dog clip / jump lead clip on the end.

i think stone uses something like that at the tor. although its so long i think if you wanted to clip any bolts at the RH end of the crag you'd have to stand in the road.

All you need is a long stick and a small stone to clip a bolt. As for clipping your rope, you kinda just tie a bow round the end of the stick - works a treat  ;D

yeah made a couple either a set of tent poles with a big bulldog clip, or jump start clip, or you can get painting roller extension poles from B and Q or some such place and tape a bull dog clip or jump start clip.  For cases you can aviod the use of clips by taping a clip to the pole, rope through the other clip, and if using this method you can tape the gate open makes it easier to clip the bolt.

Don't mess around - Just do it properly and buy a Squid and a cheap painters pole. The ultimate combo.
