check out the wave washed granite  http://web.mac.com/andrewwhall/blocspenwith/Progo_Cove,_Cot_Valley.html

agree with Granticus about potential and exploring, I've found along with this spot two other as yet undeveloped venues in the last two weeks. The Cot valley has been climbed on for years but scouting around with mats reveals heaps of new stuff!

nice highball on this movie  http://web.mac.com/andrewwhall/blocspenwith/_news_blog/Entries/2008/4/2_fresh_air2.html also in the Cot Valley area.

As a longtime local of S. Wales, I would agree with the Trench as a top spot, but Porthcawl! ;)

It is my intention to head right up North at some point in the future, I have relatives in Thurso... Must be loads up there, I know loads about the reputation of the surf but not the bouldering...

All I know about on that coast is this http://www.freewebs.com/caithnessclimbing/forss.htm That website owner has moved away though, so it's pretty dead in the water. The potential is enormous, the Coasts up there are basically cliffs, with the occasional beach, and not a lot of roads. But there is gneiss (so nice) sandstone and limestone. I reckon sea kayak would be the way to explore (wonder if you can strap a pad onto one). But Sandwood Bay and Oldshoremore have bouldering, and ace surf.

Andy..  Fair do's!  My folks are originally from Neath!! I know, I know....  I did say 'lots of enterntainment', I was actually referring to the amusement arcades, greasy spoon cafs and ice cream parlours!  :P
I have definately had some fun climbing down there though, nothing mega-hard but do remember some smooth balancey highballs above dodgy rock pool landings (which was nice)  and there are some lines on the sea wall!!

Cot Valley looks funky!

Exploration is where it's at!  A long walk and boulder hop eastwards along Lynmouth beach towards Foreland Point, on a spring low tide, brought us to Sillery Sands and some top notch bouldering.  The only problem being the tide which leaves the dilemna of going back before you get cut off (on this occasion we had to wade  :'() or the mother of all walk outs up a silly steep zig-zag footpath.  I like the kayak idea!!

Caithness definately looks lush, if the flagstone slabs under those boulders are anything to go by, it looks like the reef set ups for surf are gonna be tastey!

I have bouldered a bit at Porthcawl and surfed there probably more than was good for my health. I went back recently and couldn't get over the colour of the water compared to Cornwall.

The Trench though has some memorable problems. :) I used to mix that with the relaxed ambience of the sports routes at Witches point and rare Southerndown Ogmore sessions.Throw in some quality mountain biking in the valleys....what more could you want!

errrrrrrrrr.......  Clean water!

The Trench really is a great little venue, always try and visit when I'm in the area.

Talking of clean water, a lot of my family live in Aberavon, it's filfthy...  the price of industry has to be paid...

Back on topic...and talking of filthy water!  There's a nice little bouldering area in Hastings... Not worth going there for but if you happen to be there...

Has anyone bouldered at Clevedon??? (I heard a rumour of some bouldering there).

I had a look, based on rumour, but found nothing of significance.

Try Aberdeen for mingy water, especially in autumn when all the leaves get carried down the Dee, and then wash round to the beach and settle, only to get churned up by the waves. Moray coast water is spotless though.
