who shall i vote for?

Sheffield, Gleadless valley ward

Labour - Terence Fox

No letterbox literature
Election day google could find nothing about his policies.

Looks a bit evil

can't link pic - http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/sys_upl/templates/PT_Councillor/PT_Councillor_details.asp?mapid=43&tid=153&pgid=921

Frank Taylor - Lib Dem

Lib dems have been bombarding me with leaflets over the past few week - showing good effort (yet their literature is a bit much focused on slagging labour rather than what they're going to do so much better)

http://sheffieldlibdems.org.uk/pages/GleadlessValley.html

Gareth Roberts - Green

the local green candidate has sent me one leaflet

http://www.sheffieldgreenparty.org.uk/archives/elections/2008/Green%20Party%20Election%2008%20Gleadless%202_gleadless.pdf

nothing about schools or health

Jenifer Karen Grant - Conservatives
nothing from the conservatives ( i don't think i could vote conservative - unless an exceptional local councillor really appealed on local issues) - a quick google search gave me nothing

So Lib Dem or Green??

Who you voting for?

Green.
Given that neither of the Green or Liberal are likely to get in you're vote is best seen as a message to who-ever does. To vote lib gives the message that you don't really like either of the big two. To vote green gives the message that you don't like the big two AND you believe in green policies.

hey bonjoy!

in sheffield lib dem and labour are level pegging (in the local councillor stakes)

"In Sheffield, there are 84 elected Councillors. There are three Councillors for each of the 28 Wards in the City. No Party has overall control and the political balance of the Council is:

Labour 39
Liberal Democrats 39
Green Party 2
Conservatives 1
Independent 1
2 vacancies caused by resignations on 26th March 2008"

The lib dem message is, if you are fed up of labour - get rid of them by voting lib dem (all this locally of course!) - there is something to be said for sending a message to government by labour losing a seat BUT - what's this got to do with local issues and council tax and stuff?

I guess it isn't just labour responsible for the the shortcomings of the current council if power has been shared.

I do think that green votes have made the lib dems put more green stuff on their agenda.

The level of effort from the lib dems makes me want to think that they might be really pro-active councillors - but the cynic in me wonders if the effort levels will be maintained if/when  they get voted in.

With it being a local election surely the Lib Dem's have every chance of getting in? They only have two fewer council members than Labour at present and neither party has overall control. I would have thought that with the way the country is being run at the moment Labour are going to take some pretty big hits in this election and Sheffield is an ideal target for the Lib Dems. Hence the advertising push (and its direction) described above.

Edit - beat me to it  :)

Voted Labour. Based on the fact that I am dyed in the wool ABC and that the Lib Dem advertising in Nether Edge ward has been totally negative - just slagging Lab off.

ABC until you get the profit forecast for the wall and see how much tax you'll be paying.

Looking forward to 2010 I can see Sir Graeme (services to Bouldering) and proud part owner of Climbingworks PLC (branches in London, Cannes, Rome and Sheffield) saying 'That's it if Labour get in I'm leaving the country'....

I voted Green this year.  The misses said it was a wasted vote but I considered the fact that two of the candidates didn't live in my postcode area and that of the two who did only the Greens hadn't put annoying shit through my letter box.  Simple really, though probably wasted as Lib Dems will win in my ward anyway.
