* Would have got it all done yesterday if I'd been using an install CD operating system that is known to actually work!  :wall:

 :P

:spank: Hey I got it working this morning, and I very much doubt you'd find any other OS (e.g. M$-Windoze, Mas OS X) that you could install on a PS3 (perhaps BSD might be possible).  ::)

I could have stuck with Sony's GameOS, and put up with uPnP serving up media, but my NAS isn't powerful enough to stream video and I don't want to have the desktop on 24/7, so by installing Linux on the PS3 I can now mount the NAS drives over NFS and it all works fine (for some reason NFS of video files isn't hindered in the same way as streaming them is ).

Could be anything really, but the TV with PS3 running Gentoo  8)

No its a Linksys NSLU2 that is unslung with SlugOSBE 4.8 (although its awaiting upgrade to 5.0).

It doesn't really have a problem with playing video on the desktop (wired connection) or laptop (Nas <-> Router is wired, then wireless to laptop) when the two external HD's are mounted and the various partition as are mounted as NFS.

The bottleneck seems to come when serving/streaming media up to the PS3 using Mediatomb a uPnP server that serves media up to things like the PS3.  Also the PS3 can be funny about some formats so that then places additional demands on the NAS when transcoding on the fly (which has about 32Mb of RAM, 'cause if I took a soldering iron to it I'd have a new doorstop!).

Thus thats why I want to simply have an integrated Linux multimedia center in the living room to work with everything else (and get PlayTV working too).

Anyway, this looks a bit highball

That's his nose. He is going to grab someone by the wrist and take off any moment.

Looks and sounds rad. I like the way it needs snow on the ground to be a safe proposition!

2nd Ascent. 21 moves. Fell off the last move about an hour before Nalle did it. Heartbreaker. Could be one of the best boulder problems in the world. 20-25 feet with a snow landing (for now). Tall, Proud, Pure, Technical, Powerful, and Balancy. FULL PACKAGE. Footage on Deadpoint this week.

Ahh, cheers Jasper, I can't read 8a.poo, it hurts my head to look at, let alone navigate the site.
