Good to see some Quality Bouldering Piccies appearing recently! Seems like climbing photography has become a lost art in the age of disposable videos.

With holidays apparently a thing of the past, i'm using up my annual leave for weekly half day excursions to go explore untouched blocs in HK.  Here's a little gem we found the other week:

Unfortunately two moves later the ground opens up into a 4m deep chasm waiting to swallow you. NVM, still got a nice pic...

exploring sea caves on uninhabited islands in the northeast of Hong Kong (requiring precarious paddle board access...)

Any self-proclaimed or otherwise photoshop experts on here? When I say photoshop...I use DXO but the concepts are all the same. Somehow I often end up underwhelmed after editing. I typically mainly just aim for the best composition and best light I can manage at the time, then try to recreate the "feel" through subtle tweaks.

I was wondering if I could post some shots with raw files and see if anyone can give tips? To be fair, it's not bouldering (routes) but the ideas are the same and I thought it most likely people on here would know.

I think UKB has some proper photo-wads and they've always been generous with their knowledge so stick up a thread and I'm sure you'll get some useful input.

I'd call myself an enthusiast rather than an expert and I'm more into portrait photography than climbing photography; however, if you'd like to send me a raw file I'll have a go at an edit and compare to yours? We can then discuss what steps were taken (if my edit is any good!).

Sounds good Paul Y Liam, I'll maybe start another thread. I struggle a bit with skin tones and then just generally being creative and making things look inspiring without being overdone.

I've got a mate who's been getting more into landscapes and has a very distinct style (dark and moody) which I appreciate but don't want to replicate. I've never quite felt like having a "style" other than just well composed and interesting (aiming for...). Due to my finger cut I decided to drag the camera up a few adjacent routes on this last trip to get some better angles.

I think it's probably a mistake to try and force a style early on for all your photos, and that's particularly true for us hobbyists that don't need a consistent look for clients. Your own style should naturally form over time by experimenting. Copying other peoples looks will be a part of that. Since you mention skin tones, getting that right is all about referencing for me.

Feel free to PM if you'd like to email me a raw file to edit or a JPEG to critique!

You've cheated yourself out of some steepness there! (looking at the horizon)

Edit - beaten to it! Usually you'd want the sea falling the other way

Val Daone - probably the nicest rock i touched whilst in north Italy last week. Nicer rock than Masino/Mello and light years better than the chossy limestone bouldering around Arco itself. Just a shame it started hoofing it down about an hour after we got there... (esp as its about an 90 min drive from Arco)
