New Scottish Bouldering Guide due soon
February 18, 2008, 11:56:21 am
Following the much maligned (on here at least) Stone Country, the newer version is due out shortly, see http://www.stonecountry.co.uk/html/books.html for some sample pages. Was at Boltsheugh on Saturday having a play with the sample pages (not that I really need them) and a lot nicer to use than the old Stone Country Guide, so hopefully the rest of the guide is up to the standard.

Also worth mentioning (if you don't want to download) that John has opted for Font grades for this guide. Looking at the sample pages for for the new Northumberland guide with this month's climber, Steve Crowe has gone for Font grades for Northumblerland too. So a few more nails in the coffin for V Grades in the UK.

Yeah, I'm psyched to see what Stone Country has come up with for the new guide... And also for this new bouldering dvd, 'elements' which should be interesting. The guide is a selected guide, so there should be more room for good topo's and photos. Complete area guides are due out in about a year I think.

It's well worth checking out sample pages on stone country website...

There's a list of all areas included, which seem fairly thorough and a sample of some Aberdeen pages with guide to boltsheugh, descriptions look clear with a good photo topo  :)

Should be a good guide for anyone wanting to boulder in Scotland.... ;)

The intro also mentions and tries to address criticisms of first book.

Does look good from the few pages that they put up though I would have liked to see another couple of pages of problems included in the pdf but I suspect that it can be added to the list of guides to buy this year for me at least.

Had my about a week now, and have been flicking through.  Overall a good book.  Not definitive by any means, but includes lots of areas and the best problems in these areas.  Good to see coverage of the Aberdeen/Inverness area at last.
Also got the DVD which I enjoyed.  Not hardcore- just a gentle look at the areas and their development.

It's not intended to be definitive, and is far from it. I think definitive area guides may be in the pipeline, depending on the success of this one.

The sheer amount of (underdeveloped) bouldering in Scotland will not fit in one book.
I like this guide, worth buying if you boulder North of the Border.

Nah, Preston Area for 3 years.  Although it probably rains less in Aberdeen than here
But watch out- I may be up your way in June/July.

Let us know closer to the time, be glad to show you around.

I think it rains a similar amount here, just the rock takes longer to dry!
