My money is on Isostatic Readjustment as a result of the retreat of the glaciers or from sediment build up in the North Sea, or a bit of both.

Yep - most likely reactivation of existing faults related to stress differences between the craton and the surrounding paleozoic/mesozoic etc stuff - linked to MAR and/or thinning of North sea basin.
